That last line there gets a laugh from me. He used the story of Snowdon Mountain Railway L.A.D.A.S. (the full name wouldn't fit on such a little engine!) and uses it to scare the others into behaving.
According to the Island of Sodor book, this story about Godred really did happen. That last line at the end of this story about Culdee making it up was tacked on to the end because the publisher refused to publish the story without such an amendment. The story was supposed to end at "Sir Handel and Duncan were unusually silent long after Culdee had gone home." A much more chilling end than the finished version.
Godred was likely strait up scraped, if you see the photos of the accident that Awdry based this story one the engine was completely totaled and it didn't look like anything was salvageable.
Joshua V it took me 9 years to find out about rws man i saw the books but i was like "where is it coming from whata the name " it was a big mystery for me
I was thinking more of a person and his family surviving a cold winter, he got injured, had no food left and died in his bed. His family members then cannibalized on his remains to survive. Grizzly I know, which is why it's not nice.
I mean, it's a story for children. Awdry pushed the boundaries at times but outright saying a character died and was harvested for parts would be too much.
Maybe Culdee heard what happened to Godred’s Sister Ladas on the snowdon mountain railway so he said godred was cannibalised to make sir handel and Duncan be more careful
I see what you mean. Skarloey and Rheneas knew that the story about Godred (as told by Culdee) is true. What is also true is that Godred's real life counterpart L.A.D.A.S. faced her fate after she derailed, tumbling down the steep slope. That was during the grand opening of the Snowdon Mountain Railway.
I wonder after hearing Culdee's story Sir Handel thought of the time (back when he was called Falcon) when he almost fell off the mountain but Duke had saved him
My headcanon is that Godred died from his fall, and the workers only cannibalized Godred's "corpse". Therefore, Culdee TECHNICALLY made the story up, but only part of it.
@@NirateGoel This is from the Island of Sodor: Its People, History, and Railways, Page 67: "Happily the passengers kept calm and no one was injured; but the engine, when recovered next day, was found to be beyond local repair. I think the story was true, but they never told them that it wasn't. They wanted them to be scared into behaving themselves and showing respect to their coaches.
A real life steam engine from the Snowdon mountain railway this book was based on. You'll understand why they don't show Godred's crash when you find the image of L.A.D.A.S after it's accident.
On the Snowdon Mountain Railway, that this book is based on in Wales, this event actually happened! a locomotive actually came of the rails and tumbled down the side of the mountain, but it was much worse. Back then, the engines where coupled to their couch, so when the engine came of, it took the couch with it! On the Snowdon Mountain railway today, the engines don't have couplings. so if an engine does come of the rails, the couch can stay on the track.
