You are a Saint! You did such a fantastic job recording wile illustrating with excellent commentary explaining everything in such detail ..Thank you so much!
Just replaced the thermostat and flushed the coolant system on our cx-5. Thank you for sharing all the details of the job and even for taking the time to separate the content by chapters Everything in your video is super helpful!
Dude, thank you for this video, it helped me save money to replace my tensioner belt from Mazda Dealer. I am so into DIY stuff. Perhaps more videos regarding replacements of Mazda cars parts? The Mazda dealer Belt tensioner cost USD$300+$19 labor. I bought the belt tensioner from a mazda part supplier online and cost me only $185. Kudos to this video mate.
Note to viewers, the P/N thermostat as shown here is used for up to 2018 model year Mazdas only. If for instance like I do, you own a 2019 Mazda 3 Sedan (Base, Preferred, or Premium Trim package irrelevant) with the 2.5L DOHC Skyactiv G *non-Turbo* engine, apparently (haven't gained access to physically inspect and check myself yet) - as I am being told by my local Mazda dealer new parts department associate - apparently for my vehicle's engine, the coolant thermostat is integral to a whole freakin' water control valve module which approaches $500 after-tax for the part assembly alone...did another quick query on Google search and wouldn't ya know, the damn thing has a known defect. Started experiencing low ECT symptoms and basically signs of an at least partially stuck-open thermostat within the last couple of weeks. Mileage isn't even 40k yet, however I drive hard, etc. (moderate to sometimes moderately severe operating conditions) and haven't yet replaced the coolant (will soon along potentially with an expensive ass electronic thermostat assy I guess), which if I recall has an OEM-recommended service interval of 30k. Your voice is wonderful. I own cx9 2016 and cx 5,sp please keep doing these kind of videos. One thing, if your phone has options. Please turn on Steady Shot to reduce shaking. Some people like me get motion sickness watching video like this 😢
2017 cx-5 water pump started screeching at 45,000 miles. relatively simple job. no need to remove serpentine belt. just slip water pump belt off and back on.
Definitely tough to make a video while doing some of the work. Good job. I was surprised at how much disassembly was needed to get at that thermostat! Also, would hope the water pump would last longer. Think I'll wait for it to start leaking before tackling the replacement on my 2018 CX-5. Mazda should have gone with a standard spring loaded tensioner....easier to deal with and less hassle vs. the hydraulic ones.
Also one more question, how did you fully flushed the system? I tried to drain the water, but only a half of it is drained out of radiator, the other half seats before thermostat. Looks like need to repeat the drain process 4-5 time in order to get the ~45/55 mix again.
Thanks for this upload, planning on replacing the water pump soon because I’m hearing a lot of rattling sound around that area. Your awesome man.! Guess while I’ll be changing it out, I’ll replace the belts and maybe later do the thermo thingy to buy later. Can’t wait to try this out on my 2016.5 cx5 😁
Muy buen video felicitaciones, una consulta una ves de cambiar la correa de la bomba de agua, cuanta vuetas hay hacer girar la polea del cigueñal hay realizar para no perder la sincronisacion.
Thank you for making this procedure, it will be handy in the near future. Do you know where to install the block heater? it should have been on the back side of the engine near the thermostat but I cannot find it.
Hi, just a question, why did you replace the Tensioner bolt and the nut? Are they warned out? Anyways, THANK YOU!!! I needed to replace all these things on my 2014 Mazda 6.
Was your water pump broken or defective or was this just preventative maintenance? My serpentine belt blew out on me yesterday and I was just going to change the belts. Is the tensioner and water pump something you should do after 65,000 miles? That's all I have on my 2016 CX-5.
this job was a pain in the ass. there is very little room between the body and the pump. i did not have to remove the staple bolt that holds the pipe to the block. Getting the pulley back on was a bitch to since it wasn't a tight fit it wanted to fall off. Mazda didn't make this an easy job that's for sure but got it done in around 3hrs with an oil change and tire rotation. I don't wanna do this job again anytime soon. Also the belt tensioner and routing is not ideal with one person had to hold the tension on the tensioner with an extension to the the lower control arm to get it on the alternator. thanks for your help tho
Hey, awesome video. I have 44k on my 2016 cx5 and it looks like the tensioner is losing the fluid because motor behind the tensioner has moisture.. I noticed you didn’t bother to take the motor mount off. I guess not needed?
Very detailed, thought through video, thank you. What climate do you live in?This is the first used Mazda i see with no signs of rust on underbody. Did you treat it with Liquid Film or something similar?
Thanks for the video and the time and effort you put in to it. I have a 2017 mazda 3 with same engine and getting ready to do this service. I’m wondering if you torque or if you know the torque aspects of bolts removed. They look snug pretty much though. The other question is if this was the first time doing this service to your Mazda. Really like the floor of your garage too, thanks a lots sincerely.

Thank you for making this procedure, it will be handy in the near future. Do you know where to install the block heater? it should have been on the back side of the engine near the thermostat but I cannot find it.
Amigo donde se encuentra exactamente el sensor de temperatura del Mazda cx-3?
Hi, just a question, why did you replace the Tensioner bolt and the nut? Are they warned out?
Anyways, THANK YOU!!! I needed to replace all these things on my 2014 Mazda 6.
I replaced the bolt and nut since the tensioner was being replaced. Figured it would be good to replace everything at the same time.
Go Ben-chan~ I like this. Make more videos! Especially for your DIY projects! xD Miss you!

I replaced the water pump as the vehicle as a preventative maintenance before anything happens. I replaced the tensioner due to it leaking.
PM is always good. No surprises down the line of you car and Life! Stay on top of everything.
i did my fiances car since it the bearings took a dump after 58k. which was surprisingly soon.
Hello! Are you suppose to use Mazda Coolant FL22?
Great job keep it up!
nice and detail job of parts replacement.
Thanks a lot for the video!
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Dude, you rock!
At how many miles you should do that job on the Mazda ?

Correct, not required to remove the motor mount.
Gorgeous garage love that floor.
Very detailed, thought through video, thank you. What climate do you live in?This is the first used Mazda i see with no signs of rust on underbody. Did you treat it with Liquid Film or something similar?
I live in Southern California, so we don't have to worry about too much rust unless we live right by the coast.
Thanks for the video and the time and effort you put in to it.
