Thanks for the video. I'm in Toronto, Canada. Been able to get my parts locally so far, for my 1996 High efficiency Armstrong SX90, GUK100D20-2B. Amre Supply, Noble Hvac and plumbing supply. Got a Rotom Inducer Motor Assembly for $160 CDN total price from Noble, and the Flame sensor/Ignitor assembly for $82 CDN total, from Amre Supply. Cheapest anywhere I looked, even some of the US sites. Trying to keep the old thing going for this winter. In Spring, with more time to shop around and no pressure, I'll have to spring for a new furnace. But, like you said, I had to do a bit of hard work tracking down who had them and by what numbers they go by.

I bought a used variable speed blower module from a company in Florida, found them on Ebay. In looking for this part I saw prices vary from 500.00- 1200.00. I got 2 of these from this company Programmed for 100.00 each! The fan has been working Great and quiet! Most guys do not install a filter for whole house electrical spikes. Almost all electrical appliances are sensitive to these. The main boards are the first to get damaged by bad spikes. Thank you for this great video!

I am just now seeing this video so it is not real recent, but I have dealt with one of the shops on this list. I live near Indianapolis, IN. Shortys HVAC is about 15 miles from me in West Newton, IN. I just ordered a Lennox high limit switch. I have bought a blower motor capacitor and a igniter from them and they were factory OEM and worked fine. He is a small dealer but trustworthy in my experience .

👍 Thank you very much you are a virtuoso. I am going to tell you about one of my problems ... I worked as a maintenance in an apartment complex, the company towards HVAC theoretical and practical training courses. I obtained a credential when passing the HVAC exam, I lost the original I have a photo copy. My A / C home was damaged and investigated and the problem the capacitor and the burned cable, I went to buy it from SEARS and they did not sell it to me because I was not a contractor. Finally I got a second-hand one in good condition. I saved a money because an A / C contractor would charge me $ 180. THANK YOU, your information will help me a lot.🙏

Here in the Portland, OR area we recently had 115° temperatures and over a hundred people died from the heat. The local HVac stores refused to sell life saving AC parts to the public - not even a simple $20 capacitor to get an AC running. At one store I went to, a guy with a pregnant wife at home was in the parking lot literally begging contractors to go inside and buy him the AC part he needed. I personally think this is criminal behavior, when people are literally dying, to maintain this collusion between the contractors and the suppliers. Thank you for this video to show ways around these unscrupulous price fixers.

I have a carrier furnace and I need to replace my draft inducer assembly.
I called up four different HVAC supply houses before I found one that supplied Carrier parts.
When i found the part there on a website for a store 40 minutes away there were 20 available for pickup today! Fantastic.
I get on the phone because the website is looking for a login before I can order.
    Conversation goes like this:
"I'm looking for a draft inducer assembly for a Carrier furnace model #######."
    "What company are you with?"
"I'm fixing my own furnace. I know how to replace it. I've unseized it in the past. I'm going to replace it myself."
"I'm sorry I can't sell to you. We only sell to licensed HVAC techs. It's a liability issue."
fyi - I live in Massachusetts. I have a feeling other parts of the country don't deal with this sh-t.

This video applies to most appliances in general. HVAC is a special case due to the additional skill necessary to accurately diagnose the faulty part, experience with the required tools, possessing those tools and the biggest is safety (electrical shock hazzard, high pressures, handling refrigerant and causing a water leak. HVAC distributes are particularly protective of their industry is one reason why they won't sell to consumers, not to mention the liability.

I think job/industry protection is the main reason. Tried to buy a capacitor at a Hvac store last summer, got a lot of grief since I’m a homeowner. What a bunch of bs. Home Depot sells “dangerous” stuff all day. The don’t seem to have an issue with liability.

Hvac sales1 Which guy? Your pointing to your own post. We’re both right, there’s a lot of ways to hurt yourself buying stuff from both a local Hvac store and Home Depot. Difference is the local Hvac store is hiding behind the notion of safety only to protect the pros. Sorry if harsh.

I helped a friend find a condensor fan motor and capacitor for a trane ac at Arnold's . I can't remember the Web address but they are out of Kentucky and he had no problems. Most supply houses are not going to sell any electrical /gas related items due to liability and safety. I had a company that wouldn't sell me a contactor even though I have worked in the trade before. Just their policy.

    • @picklerix6162
      @picklerix6162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It really has nothing to do with liability or safety. The supply houses are in collusion with the HVAC contractors, who are their primary customers. The contractors want to make it illegal for you to repair your own HVAC equipment. Like I stated in a previous post, some greedy suppliers will sell you parts at an inflated cost as long as you sign a legal document saying that they are not responsible for any damage that you may cause.

Yet another great video! Quick question: Re a newer Lennox furnace & AC unit - Should I buy Lennox branded parts, or will another company that sells the same part, but not in a Lennox box or bag be just as good? I am guessing the non Lennox part will cost less, so that is why I am asking. Thank you again for you videos!

Found a draft inducer motor and vent with fan on e-bay for my old coleman furnace for $195.99. It said new and they had 4 but 3 were sold.So I bought last one. It came about 5 days earlier than they said. Shipping was free. But I did notice some shotty tach welds on it were it left 2 little tiny openings on corners and that will be after i put on gasket and tighten it down.I was thinking of just sealing them up with some heat resistant form a gasket glue to keep all carbon monoxcide out. You think that will work alright. it says to let dry for 24 hours so i will do that , then attach it to furnace vent. There pretty small so it wont take much.

If they are tiny holes some heat resistant glue or high temp silicone would do the trick. I know that may not be the "Kosher" approach but I think it's fine.

Which parts do you usually stock or carry in your truck most?

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't remember the exact numbers but here's a rough estimate:
      About 5 different ignitors
      A few flame sensors
About 7 frequently replaced control boards
      5-8 inducer motors
5 blower motors (a few different HP)
      Many different capacitors
      A variety of limits
      3 thermostats
      2 gas valves
      1 universal pressure switch
      A few ignitor assemblies
And other miscellaneous parts. I wonder what other techs stock... It would also depend on where you work and what you work on.

I am not sure about the legal aspect of it. But in the past when I bought R22 on Ebay, I did have to fill out a little form stating that I have an EPA license. I guess that's their way of shifting the blame onto the buyer if the buyer is not licensed.
