Speaking as a guy who has designed and made tens of thousands of leather holsters over the past 38 years, I can tell you that this method certainly will work. HOWEVER, you'll get significantly better results using wax-paper instead of a plastic bag. The wax-paper not only conforms better to the profile of the weapon (thereby preserving the accuracy of the mold), it will also lubricate the inside of the holster just a bit with deposited wax.

I just got one and was like “aw wtf…” until you think of it like a good baseball mitt that you need to break in. Great info!

Saran wrap is the way to go, It retains the natural Form of the gun And your results will be a tighter more perfect contoured fit to the Pistol. 1791 Makes a fine holster and I am very pleased with the craftmanship.

    THANK YOU!
Dwx Compact barely able to get in or out of my Cardini holster. Your method got it to that “just right” level.
Highly recommend the Cardini “Zorro” IWB leather holster for this “hard to find holster for”pistol.

I have 3 of your holsters. In addition to double bagging I put it on my belt and cinch it to the shape it will be on my waist. I let it stay that way for 2 to 4 days. The result is a perfect fitting holster. I am a customer for life. A great holster at a great price that will last for generations.

I appreciate the tips. The instructions that came with it said 15 minutes .!! ... Haha. But I'm doing overnight with 1 freezer bag and 2 narrow cardboard shims.

Parchment 📜 paper works very well (imh, better than ziplock bags) and you can avoid a lot of the bunching of ziplock bags and can dial-in the thickness (therefore the amount of expansion/retention of your holster).

I been working mine for about 2 weeks now. But I also got mine for a pistol you guys don't make them for, so I got the closest fit I could with their customer service help. After doing the zip lock bag stuff, pulling on the holster at night, leaving the pistol in there for days at a time. I finally used a little water and wrapped the pistol in the bag with duct tape around the outside in one layer super tight around all the features of my pistol. This worked amazing for me on the Canik TP9SF Elite! I love 1791 their holsters are amazing quality and their customer service is second to none!!!
Love my holster and how it fits now and actually really enjoyed the process of breaking it in.

I just bought two 1791 holsters and love them, they are slightly tight with my gun but it does go in and retains the gun. I will use Saran wrap as my holster isn't overly tight and just a thin layer should be enough.

WoW! Thank you so much for posting this video. I’ve had my 1791 rig for months-the break-in instructions posted on my do wall! Just could not get this straight in my mind, but I’m an older dude. Now I got to get doing this ASAP! Then, the hours per week dry fire practice again! 🫣

Is there something I can put on the inside/outside to soften in a little bit? Seems really rigid

According to their website: “Do not use mink oil, Neat’s oil, or leather conditioner, which will soften and distort the molding.”

I have a Glock 21 GEN five and I’m trying to make it fit into a Glock 22 leather holster from Galco. They don’t make it for the 21 it’s a 2.0 Galco holster will this method work?

Aha! Maybe I can use my seal a meal to shrink wrap a couple of bags around the pistol for an exact fit.

You can also use lotion guys! Lotion the inside of the holster and it will smooth out. It’s just like a fresh base ball glove.

I vacuum seal mine and leave it overnight. It's best to put cardboard in the trigger guard or the opening will collapse.

I don’t agree ! Slide pistol in Holster , let set in Holster for a min of 48 hrs un holster re holster a few times let sit again another 48 hrs and it should be mint ! If u have a revolver with a snap lock lock that up also without twisting and turning if all possible, it’s a slow process , no need to be rushed !

I would just like to remind people when you put your gun in that plastic bag to size the holster,
Make sure it is bone dry of ANY moisture or sweat, that plastic bag will cause rust to attack your gun like it was smoking crack and you owed it money.
