    Video of machining on this gigantic (relative to what I'm used to) vertical lathe will never get old

    Great piece of turning and milling, especially liked the internal key milling attachment. 👌thanks for sharing 👍

    Крис, Ваша работа остается на том же самом, високом уровне - по отвествености и содежанию. А мастерство - оно видно даже в коротком ролике. Спасибо!

    Timelapse would be pretty cool. Just one shot and see the whole thing whittled away.

    • @ChrisMaj
      @ChrisMaj  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to get a good time-lapse in this vtl. A lot of coolant spraying around and camera gets foggy.

    • @kw2519
      @kw2519 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisMaj ya that’s always my issue too. You have to cool it off. Maybe do 1 dry shallow fast pass for every 4 or 5 wet passes? You wouldn’t be destroying the tool but you’d still be able to show your progress

    There's just somehting about big machines and being able to move all of that material, I can't get enough of them, I'm fascinated with how they work and seeing someone making these crazy parts is pretty gratifying!

    Hello Chris. At about the 3:23 mark a bunch of coolant flows out of a passage and run around the chuck. What is that done for? Thanks, Ken

    If I could afford to be curious on that scale I'd get a second table for that machine and another blank for that drawing. I'd keep everything else the same but have the new table cut down so it has only just enough diameter. The question is whether or not that difference in momentum would change anything.

    • @ChrisMaj
      @ChrisMaj  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Starting and stopping the smaller chuck would probably save us a couple of seconds.

    we use seco .032R wnmg 80 degree 432 tm3501 inserts for roughing 416 t castings for planetary gear shafts where i work. a lot of interrupted cuts going on plus the varying depth of cut with castings. have to use a new tip each cycle. finisher is an iscar .0156R vnmg 35 degree, forget the base number.. probably starts with 331, any suggestions on best brands for 416, stainless, and castings?

    • @ChrisMaj
      @ChrisMaj  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't do a lot of stainless or castings, so I can't really help you with that.
