    Hi Fem, loved your reaction and thoughts as always..about the song, AURORA said: "It’s quite a happy song… it’s been a while since I’ve had a joyful song so it feels very nice. It was inspired by something quite sad as I looked at the suicide rates on this planet and apparently 73% of them were men and then I thought, why is that the case? Then I realized, obviously, it must be because of the feeling that you can’t talk about your emotions and show that you’re in pain because pain is often associated with weakness but you know, here in my world it’s not, so the song is inspired by something quite sad but it is also happy because crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter. It’s about that feeling to let off some steam as they say here in England."

    River was inspired by men not being allowed to cry, to show emotions and that leading to a higher suicide rate with men

    Her being in the river is part of the lyrics "Become part of the river" The river meaning the river of emotions. She kept cutting away the tears (emotions) until she threw away the scissors, to let the river run wild.

  • @BethanieBoots
    @BethanieBoots 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I believe the river video and song tbh is about toxic positivity in a way. In todays world we are told crying and being "weak" is bad, "move on" "you're being a Debby downer" "Your an adult, act like one" "no use crying over spilled milk" ext.
    So I think she is show casing that this hatred and unwillingness to just cry and get it out causing more negative or causing people to get stunted by it, that in turn makes them just live in the sadness even more.
    "Don't forget who you are even though you're in need, Like a bird in the night your emotions deserves to be freed"
    We push down our own emotions to 'save' others from it, and completely disregard our own needs.
    Its about acknowledging those emotions and being compassionate with yourself. Only then can you toss away the scissors and allow yourself to be.
    The song is so moving.

    Man, I remember waiting for Queendom MV to release... Funnily enough, I hated this video at first (because in my mind I had a different vision for this video, more Runaway'ish, ya know, like in the forest with wild dances and running, that sort of thing), but damn I love it now. And still get chills.

    The River is one of my favorite videos. I personally think the red flower“roots” as you called them at the end of video represent the connection to the other emotional people of the world. Aurora often describes herself as an emotional person, and I think this video, and the roots, are an ode to the fact that there are others like you, even if you can’t see them.

    I adore her song, and video for, The River. I love music....and I've had lots of songs bring me close to tears, but never all the way there. Until I first heard The River. I legit bawled through the first listen. Which is hilariously on the nose given the subject of the song. But there was something about how that chorus lyric "You can cry" felt like an allowance and a command. It was so _direct_ and to the point. _You...CAN...cry. So do it. Now. Trust me, it'll feel good! Love, Aurora._ And it's like my body got that message.....and complied, and I couldn't have stopped it had I wanted to.
    That's the thing I value in her music more than anything.....the sheer *_emotional catharsis_* of it all. It _sounds_ like a deep exasperated exhale or a hard cry after not doing so in months(or years) _feels._ Nothing else moves me emotionally like her music....

    Aurora reaction videos are kinda my after work chill out -guilty- pleasure. And you Fern Stone are hands down my favorite. :) I'm curious if you've heard Aurora's version of "Into the Unknown"? Obviously she did the "oohoohoohoooooh" spirit voice sound in the movie/song. But she also recorded her entirely own version of the song...and it's SO good, far better than the official Disney©version. There's even a fan-made music video for it that's super well made. It's got a more ethereal gentle Nordic vibe as a whole....but very inspiring and full of sizzling hopeful energy.
    And she does this thing with her voice after the 2nd chorus leading into the bridge that makes me melt every time.... It's this rising(in pitch and volume) "eeeeeEEEHHHH!!!" that then leads into "...are you out there? Can you feel me? Can you show me? Ahh Ahh Ahahhhhh...." idk why....but that rising tone she does sends shivers up my spine and almost makes me want to cry. And in the fan video, that's the moment Aurora has her hands to the sky as lightning is flashing.....so, perfect editing. :) Hope you get to that soon!?

    Exist For Love & Apple Tree are obviously pretty budget MVs. Exist For Love was made during the pandemic + Aurora's album was nowhere near done so I'd assume that's why that video wasn't as flashy as Queendom or The River (all 3 of which where lead singles for every new project).
    Apple Tree wasn't even a single (at least to my knowledge), but then it got some traction (on TikTok I think? or somewhere else) + (I might be mistaken here) Aurora's management wanted something different to appeal to more people and that's how we got the video for it. Nothing really special, just some choreo from Aurora and her crew.
    Also, a little fun (or nor so fun) fact: Aurora filmed videos for Forgotten Love (second single of off IOADK) and Daydreamer (not even a single until it was used during Apple's [y e s, Apple's] developer keynote in 2020), but for some reason they both got scrapped (Forgotten Love MV got scrapped entirely and Daydreamer MV got chopped into a bunch of aesthetic Aurora clips with lyrics, even though they had a really creative concept for it).

  • @avedic
    @avedic ปีที่แล้ว

    Also.....you gotta react to her most recent single.....The Woman I Am.
    It didn't make the cut of her last album....which blows my mind, because it's perfect. The syncopation in the rhythm is so fun and weird and she does this "eeh eeh eeh eeh eeyah" vocal motif in the hook that is transcendentally hopeful sounding. The live Gullruten performance is the one to watch, especially for the sheer visual beauty of the stage design and lighting. It's like the mid 90s Romeo + Juliet movie...the death scene in the church with the flowers and neon crosses.
    Visually it's incredibly striking. As is the choreography....with Aurora at one point doing the sign of the cross on herself. All that, plus one lyric in the song, give the whole thing a surprisingly sacrilegious edge to it. I love when she focuses on religion and spirituality as topics for criticism and fascination.....

    Aurora said that The River is a happy song but her inspiration for it was sad. When she saw the percentage for suicides we’re overwhelmingly of men due to our inability to reach out, to cry, to let our emotions out. She made this song.
    I thank her for it.
    We’re just as vulnerable and susceptible to hurt.
    Yet we’re conditioned to believe any admission of failure or weakness is a fault because you know, we’re men. That’s bullshit, we’re human.
    Aurora tapped into that and said it’s ok to feel weak. It’s ok to ask for help, and it’s ok to cry.
    This is why I respect Aurora so much.
    She doesn’t pander to the current trend.
    She provides a voice for us all, and I’m eternally grateful for it.

      To the River.
      The song is directly related to the suicide rate which is 70% higher in men than in women. why? Because men are taught from the ground up that tears should be a sign of weakness in men. The consequence of this is that they swallow everything until at some point the point is reached and they can no longer and kill themselves.
      To interpret a completely natural process as a weakness is fundamentally wrong. Aurora fights against this in the song.
      And since Aurora naturally stands for nature, she cries plants. She cuts them off. These are the suppressed emotions. And she drowns inwardly from it (Aurora under water).
      By the way, the pile of flowers with the strands outwards at the end has the shape of a real heart. Aurora has a preference for organs as we know, after her appendix interview. 😁

    The river has a simple metaphor. The plants are the tears you are holding back, symbolised by the scissors. And when you stop holding them back you blossom. Once in a while, if I am really upset over a longer period I suddenly remember to cry. Actually as a practical decision. Just releasing the floodgates for an hour or so has an immense psychological effect. It's an emotional reset. I think more men should learn this and Aurora agrees, as this is the exact purpose of the song to remind men, that they can cry. I like Queendom better of the two, I think (but love them both). Maybe it is because of Aurora kissing. I think it reminds me that I once had a dream wherein she kissed me. Not in a romantic way, mind you. It was more like a kiss of complete acceptance from a goddess/mother/the divine feminine. It was kind of a spiritual event for me, come to think of it. Anyway, great stuff as always, Fern. Much love.
