dtadf He used to be the actual drummer for Dream Theater. He actually wrote this song. He left to join Avenged Sevenfold for a bit when they needed a drummer.
You have inspired so many drummers in this world! I’m sure I speak for a lot of people when I see you have set the bar at just the right level and Giving us great music to challenge ourselves to be a better musician. Thank you for years of great music and many different styles although my favorite will always be images and words. What an epic album. Every song is my favorite! Peace ✌🏼 and love💛
wow the natural sound of the kit is amazing, they really over compressed or EQ'd during mixing/mastering cuz the drums on the song sounds nothing like this.
Portnoy is a legend, but Mangini is a quite vastly superior drummer in terms of drumming technique (to a staggering extent). Not only that, compared to Portnoy in what pertains to speed, accuracy, hit strength control, dexterity, stamina, limb independence and versatility, Mangini is on another level entirely, leagues beyond Portnoy, Mangini is also a human metronome... So... When essentially covering a Portnoy song, with access to some of the best sound technicians on the planet... No, you can't objectively say he "made the song sound terrible". Now, since he is such an exceptional drummer he will evidently also add his own flavor to his interpretation and that is where subjectivity enters the equation with all of its flaws and nuances. So.... I understand and respect your opinion, even if I completely disagree with you.
@@Carbavegare you goddamn kidding me? He made it sound subpar. Everything from the drums and cymbal choice, intuition of when to play, how he accents notes, how he covers a song written by someone else, it's just not the original. Mangini isn't what he used to be. All musicians age, and Mangini did too. He isn't Steve Vai era Mangini anymore. Despite all this time passing, Portnoy still has that kid-like joy and stamina in his playing. Both are great drummers, but Portnoy's creativity was by far the best match for DT's songwriting.
@Macdrummer11 I'm sorry. He just couldn't. Mangina is in the wrong band. Portnoy's drumming was technical. All the offset timings he did suited the band, Mangina's got some fucking big shoes to fill and the only thing he's good at is speed.
I love reading the comments which claim Portnoy to be more technical over Mangini who is known purely on his amazing and highly advanced technique. :D Besides these songs aren't that hard to play. If you put some time into searching covers of this song you'll find out that there are are dozens of guys out there capable of playing this song. Not bashing Portnoy here. Just stating the facts. I think Mike is a wonderful musician and put lot's of effort to form the style of DT we know.
And I don't have an acoustic kit myself, so I can't record. Plus I lack the recording software to get good quality. One of my uncles has a kit, but has it set up for righty.
Well I do it as hard as he does. (Maybe not as loud because I have only been playing drums for 5 years and I don't have the leg muscles to kick as hard as he does. But I kick pretty hard.
It's not about power. It's about fluidity. Using two legs for these parts makes it sound more smooth and less stiff. Even if you can use one foot, it should be played with two.
Without proof I have reasoning too. Any sort of video on any sort of drum kit is more than enough proof even if its filmed on a shitty camera phone, if it shows that you're not a bull-shitter then i'll believe you.
No one can play this song like Portnoy, but it has nothing to do with skill. Different drummers drum different ways. Even if Mangini is more technical, he could never play this song, or any of MP's songs, the "right" way.
Hmm he seems like a good drummer for Dream Theater
Damn this sounds like a song of its own
Oh the things I'd do for a set like that..
The tone is on another level
I must have that drum set, it really is amazing.
irk wish i had the money and space to have a kit like that
Its a tama, it probably won't cost that much, its still affordable but what really hard is collecting the cymbals...
This guy seems good. He should pursue a career in drumming.
He is the best, the tune is so clear, skills are mad.
adnan skişenses
@@-fleurdumal- He ya
nice cover dude, keep it up. you should join DT replacing Mangini =p

Feel the sarcasm, bro!
Gage Henning r/woooosh
it's Portnoy actually playing, enjoy the cover lol
People are not getting the joke
This guy covered it to the BONE, well done.
I mean he did write the song, so I think he would know how to play it
😂

I think that it's the same as the mix though. It's certainly not camera audio.
pretty sure this is a playthrough not the actual drum track
This is exactly the same as on the album, but the natural tone of the drums isn't drowned in the music here
Idk what you’re talking about, this is the drum stem.
@@XiyuYang If people think this is what drums sound like without an actual mic setup...
Best drummer ever
Christ almighty.... that's a lot of brass, layered too. Whew...
damn sweet bass sound
nice hand and foot, and your brain mike portnoy aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh
what a sweet lillte drum-kit :)
...nice play!
This guy is a god.
I thought I could play it pretty well and then this video came up...
Bye I quit!
i wanna see Maginni playing this
He played it and he made it sound terrible
@@edgaralonzo8111 lol exactly

oh HELL i knew just MP plays perfectly this song!!! but this guy doesn looks like him o,O
@iMpClaus I hope you're kidding, because this is the actual drummer of the band. He created the drum track
I CAME.
No more coffee for him!!
2:00 lmao you can hear it when he hits the tom mic and moves it back
Rockband version is easy..

This base-drum sound makes my pants go white..
Everyone understands that this is Mike Portnoy right? The comments just didn't sound like it. Still it's a B.A. song!
Be glad to show you, as soon as I get an acoustic kit and can get a good sound quality! But you'll see. I message you when I have the video up
Its been too long now. Wheres the video bruhh
let's see it then.
I don't want to sound like a hater, but Mangini could never play with that punch!!
Sergio Soriano th-cam.com/video/aDTYWwqchhQ/w-d-xo.html
Then why compare.....such a hater
awesome
@shplog2 Oh I wish I could play Panic Attack this well
If they edit your playing like this, you can. Btw i prefer portnoy over mangini.
I wonder how long they take setting that up at each show.
Progressiv Portnoy drummer good god
@Xiao1459 they really don't sound the same if you pay attention. They all give a different sound.
What are you talking about? Mike Portnoy never used heel-toe.

@snlman22 Right? I think it's hilarious that ppl are like "goood jawb maan!!"
lol Portnoy
Have you even tried PLAYING it on an Acoustic kit? Single pedal or not? Im still avidly waiting for this video.
I can't even play this song on Rock Band... :3
I can play that all with one foot (all the kicks)
Yes I have done it, many times in fact. You must mistake me for a liar, bluffer, or idiot. I wouldn't have made that comment I hadn't already done it.
And I don't have an acoustic kit myself, so I can't record. Plus I lack the recording software to get good quality. One of my uncles has a kit, but has it set up for righty.
...so, how's that video coming along, bud?
CorndogCrusader 6+ years and his channel still has no videos lol
I just noticed the part at 4:08 is identical to the drumming in Cowboys from hell during the riff with all the pinch harmonics.
Mourningrise375 similar, not identical
@TimPaiste97 I'm sure he could.
Does he use the heel-toe method for the bass drum?
No, just standard double bass
Try to play this with one foot...
It's not that "hard" but you won't hit as hard as he does with double kick pedals.
@TimPaiste97 He can, he has to be good, because he's replacing the best drummer of the world
even MP can play this 100% without mistakes :D
@sazzad96
lolwut
nice spam about panic attack medication on a video about a song named panic attack

6:09 ok ... playback ...
Is just the video getting out of sync with the audio
3:30 as well (cymbals)
I bet Portnoy can't do this on Rock Band...
Mangina couldn't pull this off...
Two monthes later and the dude still believing that he can play all the kicks with one foot. All those sextuplets and desemiquavers...
Ok, then...
Same here haha!
