0:20 - 1:16 I relate to this so heavily, man. I was 3 y/o and the first fighting games I played were Tekken 3 & Ultimate MK3. Picked Forest Law and Liu Kang as my only mains for years! I can't even remember who I picked in Tekken Tag 1 as Forest's teammate. To this day, still a Law and Liu Kang main. And like you said, as messy as MK11's story was Liu Kang finally got justice again, but the Laws been getting done dirty for decades now. They gotta get their redemption soon.
My problem with Law is that the writers are trying to make him a underdog and comic relief, and yes there is a difference. two examples Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho and Mr. Satan from DBZ, Kuwabara is a underdog character with comedic moments as seen through out the series, and Mr.Satan is a comic relief character with underdog moments as also seen. with Law they give him underdog storylines like where he becomes drunk from losing his business and dojo and he manage to pull himself together for one last chance thats real life stuff that you hear/know about out there, but because his also comedic in ends stupidly which hurts the character
Exactly, the fact that Law goes through hard times is actually realistic writing, and it should make his victories all the more rewarding... trouble is, those victories never come, lol. There were times it was done well though. Fighter's Den misrepresents his Tekken 4 ending - Marshall may lose the restaurant, but he picks himself up and turns it into a successful dojo. The fact that he earned enough money to rebuild his business is impressive itself. He turned a negative situation around by working hard and not giving up, that's an inspirational story if you ask me. After that, it's all downhill.
Those struggles are real but Betraying your friends for money? Being the punching bag clown for everyone around you?.. That relateable too? Wheres the redemption and growth? Law remains a money obsessed bum the entirety of the series. They could incorporate Laws hurdles as a Chinese American and the discrimination that comes with that. (Could have easily been given the reason for why his restaurant was snubbed in the franchise deal)

Its funny, both Paul and Law got shafted, but at least early Paul got creditablity having a decent feud with Kazuya, having a win streak against Kuma before they turned that feud into a joke and beating first form Orge.
Law was my 1st character too and I've played purely for law. Nowadays I don't even play it because of how they betrayed my boi. You My friend have encapsulated all the reasons why I stop caring about his story. No one Has hit all the points as you did. Looking at how jacked up Marshall Law in Tekken 8 really is, he needs to be taken Seriously now, whoever is Writing his Story deserves to be Fired and needs to Hire a better Writer that puts Respect to Marshall's name and Bruce Lee's Legacy. Edit: Hell, I've seen Fan-Fictions that were better Written that made the Official Ones look Laughable.
The sad thing is that Marshall had potential to end things in a much better way. They could just let him have a fairly good career as a restaurant owner and a martial arts teacher after beating baek, and allow forrest to take his spot (kinda like king, but not tragic moment). Then maybe have him show up as a bonus character, or if story Mode, give him other reason, like going after someone who hurt forrest badly (and that person not be freaking Lili)

At least Martial Law is a great character to use in games but his character development as a Chinese business man sucks. My first Tekken game was Tekken 3 my favorite was law who I later know is forest law Marshall's son. I always be spamming the backflip move, Namco really need to use forest now have it like Marshall gives up and is down in life and forest tries to cheer him up, then have forest go into the tournament to get the money to help bring back Marshall's spirit despite Marshall prohibiting forest to enter the tournament.
Tekken writers: "In Tekken 2000, Martial Law is up against the Jinpachi Mishima to avenge his family that was slaughtered by Jinpachi's hands and the save the rest of the world. And don't you worry him...he failed at that, too."
Even Forest got done dirty he was only in Tekken 3 and didn't even bring him back for the main games. Unless your name is Kazama or Mashima, you ain't getting a push in the Tekken Universe.

Marshall Law is low key one of my favorite characters. I do a variety of martial arts and I’m from San Francisco, just like Law, not to mention I’m really close with the family of Cung Le, who played Law in the live action film. So it’s really sad, disappointing, and disrespectful for Namco to portray Law the way he is

Liu Kang obviously the strongest character in Mortal Kombat and Jann Lee won back to back DOA tournament and went down like a boss to Hayate, Hayabusa and Rig. Marshall Law apart from opening his dojo and restaurant done nothing. Ran like a coward alongside Paul when facing Feng Wei in his own ending. Embarrassing. Got no hope for Law in Tekken 8.
I kinda liked his T4 ending, it showed that he belongs more in his dojo. That's what he's good at, that's what he's truly passionate for. It was both funny and badass, which is what Law always was.
Haha. Similar story. Remember being at a holiday park with my family. Had 3 pounds per day to spend so had to spend wisely. Stumbled on tekken. Got washed twice. On my last quid, with Law, I finally got a win. Kazuya went for the tsunami kick, and I ducked and low punched before his leg came down. Quite thrilling for a button mashing 6 or 7 year old.
To be fair, I found Law's T4 and T5 endings funny, but the point still remains. Law.....oh dear.....oh dear......they did our boy DIRTY. Fei Long, Jann Lee, and Lui Kang are badasses. Awesome characters who gives Bruce Lee the justice he deserves, but Law? Good God almighty it is not a good showing. Law needs redemption in Tekken 8 badly because he's become an unintentional parody to Bruce Lee. I mean they can't screw Law's character any worse then they have and I swear to God if he jobs out to Lucky freaking Chloe so help me god......I hope that in Tekken 8 that we can salvage this man from the pits before he falls any further.

Bad writing for anyone who's not a Mishima is common for most characters, I'm a fan of Asuka, and all she is is Lili's sidekick, while being a fucking KAZAMA, her story is that Feng Wei attacked her dojo and she went after him for revenge and get her students back, and the only conclusion we ever get to see from that is in Tekken Tag 2 where she gets beaten up by Feng Wei who doesn't even aknowledge her presence IN HER OWN ENDING, I really don't get the logic of making the character looking bad in HIS OWN ENDING
I'm sorry to report, in Law's ending, the story, and Law's personality they did him dirty. They just made him bitter and money hungry screaming that he hates rich people whenever he goes against someone who has significant wealth. It's fucking sad.
What they did to Lei Wulong is even worse. Also, over the years, the Chinese have always made the Japanese the bad guys in their movies, in movies like Fist of Fury, Fist of Legend, Fearless and all. So maybe they're just doing a sly payback with this Tekken story. With the Mishimas as the main and serious stories and the Chinese, Martial Law, forest Law and even Lei Wu long as unserious characters, but men they did Martial Law too dirty. Too much disrespect and they dissappeared Lei Wulong entirely. Law is ofcourse my favorite character alongside Lei Wulong. The Chinese should seriously get into the video game business and give us something really interesting. If you even look around now, aside 'Sifu', which other hand to hand beat em up martial arts game do we have nowadays, but we have tons and tons of Japanese themed games like Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro, Rise of the Ronin and so on. All swordplay, no real martial arts kungfu. So the Chinese needs to do better. Really. They can make a game with Chinese theme that can rival Ghost of Tsushima. Look at Assassin's Creed for instance. They've traveled round the World, France, England, Egypt, you name it, all showcasing their culture and fighting styles, When they had to make an Assassin's creed china, it had to be a 2d dlc, and a mobile game. Why can't we have an assassin's creed China with Chinese theme and real hand to hand kung-fu chinese martial arts? Why? Just like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and the likes. Nobody will promote their legends and cultures like them and for them, if the gaming world doesn't regard them then they have to do it themselves. The last decent Chinese games we've had in decades are just Sleeping Dogs and Sifu. That's it. It's sad.
Here's the thing, I don't actually mind that Marshall's storyline mostly revolves around earning money and getting out of debt. It's a relatable angle and at least gives him a clear motivation for entering each tournament. I agree that they overplay it, especially since there were plenty of other angles to go with, like his rivalry with Baek. Why they abandoned that drama in favour of trash like Asuka vs Lili and Eddy vs Lucky Chloe is beyond me, lol. What I don't like is that his poverty is so often played for comedy. Poor people can be funny, but the reality of being poor is anything but. When I read Marshall's storyline, it's goddamn tragic. This man gets put through the wringer, but the games themselves play it off as a joke. Paul can happily live on bread n pullit, he hasn't got a home or family to worry about, whereas Marshall always has so much to lose. What would be interesting is if they had Marshall turn heel for a few games out of desperation and gave him a proper redemption arc where he could get some fat W's for once. Unfortunately Tekken 8 looks like it's gonna give us more of the same shit, even with this badass Hokuto no Ken redesign for Law. Wasteful. Failure is supposed to be the best teacher, but Marshall seems to have taken that way too literally lol, this man will never get the payoff for his years of hardship.

They did the reverse of what Pokémon did. Pokémon had Team Rocket around to cheer/laugh at for their misfortune, but Tekken chose to make two great characters to be laughed at for their misfortune.

The same story happened to me about the characters the first time I played, but it was in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3; UMK3 got a lot of sickass characters design but Liu Kang was the most badass to me, the way he was inspired by Bruce Lee but at the same time got his own signature trace like his long hair and red bandana got me hooked and I use him as a main even to this day. Law was always one of my favorites in the Tekken franchise but Lei and Jin were always my top main
I had no idea he wasn’t the main character till I watched the movie. Mind you back then it was no TH-cam and I’m from a small town so Tekken 3 was out by the time I was able to see it

In Tekken8, almost everyone's ending is a joke. Even Kazuya's, Jin's and Jun's. And I hate it. Jun, Kuma, Lars and Reina endings are mostly dreams. Law dies and Paul loses because he is late - what kind of win is that? Tekken has mostly bad stories since Tekken 3. The games may be good, but without a proper ending, without a serious resolution to these characters, it's hard to take them seriously. I'm very disappointed, especially with how they treat Law and Paul. And when I aid that in another video ("Tekken 8 All Characters Ending (4K60FPS 2024)"), everyone wanted to crucify me.

My first Tekken game was Tekken 3 my favorite was law who I later know is forest law Marshall's son. I always be spamming the backflip move, Namco really need to use forest now have it like Marshall gives up and is down in life and forest tries to cheer him up, then have forest go into the tournament to get the money to help bring back Marshall's spirit despite Marshall prohibiting forest to enter the tournament.

Marshall Law is low key one of my favorite characters. I do a variety of martial arts and I’m from San Francisco, just like Law, not to mention I’m really close with the family of Cung Le, who played Law in the live action film. So it’s really sad, disappointing, and disrespectful for Namco to portray Law the way he is
Jeez, whoever wrote Law and Paul's stories must really had a knack for seeing them fail or just be cowardly comic reliefs which they aren't. They're fighters for crying out loud!
It's a darn shame Marshall Law is a joke in Tekken. This ain't a fitting tribute to Bruce Lee, it's a mockery of his legacy. Liu Kang obviously the strongest character in Mortal Kombat and Jann Lee won back to back DOA tournament and went down like a boss to Hayate, Hayabusa and Rig. Marshall Law apart from opening his dojo and restaurant done nothing. Ran like a coward alongside Paul when facing Feng Wei in his own ending. Embarrassing. Got no hope for Law in Tekken 8.

I kinda liked his T4 ending, it showed that he belongs more in his dojo. That's what he's good at, that's what he's truly passionate for.
It was both funny and badass, which is what Law always was.

Haha. Similar story. Remember being at a holiday park with my family. Had 3 pounds per day to spend so had to spend wisely. Stumbled on tekken. Got washed twice. On my last quid, with Law, I finally got a win. Kazuya went for the tsunami kick, and I ducked and low punched before his leg came down. Quite thrilling for a button mashing 6 or 7 year old.

To be fair, I found Law's T4 and T5 endings funny, but the point still remains. Law.....oh dear.....oh dear......they did our boy DIRTY. Fei Long, Jann Lee, and Lui Kang are badasses. Awesome characters who gives Bruce Lee the justice he deserves, but Law? Good God almighty it is not a good showing. Law needs redemption in Tekken 8 badly because he's become an unintentional parody to Bruce Lee. I mean they can't screw Law's character any worse then they have and I swear to God if he jobs out to Lucky freaking Chloe so help me god......I hope that in Tekken 8 that we can salvage this man from the pits before he falls any further.
Love how Marshall & Paul are still tight, despite the constant relationship issues they have with debt, and with the fact Forest got badly injured on Paul's bike (guess Marshall was like "ah it was my dumbass son's fault for messing, dw about it")

Picked Law for the same reason in Tekken 1, LP+LK, camera change, sound effect like a takeoff, dope. I started using Paul shortly after I saw my ass get rolled across the dirt with one punch...but I still switch back/forth between them. Just ignore their story though cuz...yeah.

Bad writing for anyone who's not a Mishima is common for most characters, I'm a fan of Asuka, and all she is is Lili's sidekick, while being a fucking KAZAMA, her story is that Feng Wei attacked her dojo and she went after him for revenge and get her students back, and the only conclusion we ever get to see from that is in Tekken Tag 2 where she gets beaten up by Feng Wei who doesn't even aknowledge her presence IN HER OWN ENDING, I really don't get the logic of making the character looking bad in HIS OWN ENDING
I'm sorry to report, in Law's ending, the story, and Law's personality they did him dirty. They just made him bitter and money hungry screaming that he hates rich people whenever he goes against someone who has significant wealth. It's fucking sad.
What they did to Lei Wulong is even worse.
Also, over the years, the Chinese have always made the Japanese the bad guys in their movies, in movies like Fist of Fury, Fist of Legend, Fearless and all. So maybe they're just doing a sly payback with this Tekken story. With the Mishimas as the main and serious stories and the Chinese, Martial Law, forest Law and even Lei Wu long as unserious characters, but men they did Martial Law too dirty. Too much disrespect and they dissappeared Lei Wulong entirely. Law is ofcourse my favorite character alongside Lei Wulong.
The Chinese should seriously get into the video game business and give us something really interesting.
If you even look around now, aside 'Sifu', which other hand to hand beat em up martial arts game do we have nowadays, but we have tons and tons of Japanese themed games like Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro, Rise of the Ronin and so on. All swordplay, no real martial arts kungfu.
So the Chinese needs to do better. Really. They can make a game with Chinese theme that can rival Ghost of Tsushima.
Look at Assassin's Creed for instance.
They've traveled round the World, France, England, Egypt, you name it, all showcasing their culture and fighting styles,
When they had to make an Assassin's creed china, it had to be a 2d dlc, and a mobile game. Why can't we have an assassin's creed China with Chinese theme and real hand to hand kung-fu chinese martial arts? Why? Just like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and the likes.
Nobody will promote their legends and cultures like them and for them, if the gaming world doesn't regard them then they have to do it themselves.
The last decent Chinese games we've had in decades are just Sleeping Dogs and Sifu. That's it.

Here's the thing, I don't actually mind that Marshall's storyline mostly revolves around earning money and getting out of debt. It's a relatable angle and at least gives him a clear motivation for entering each tournament. I agree that they overplay it, especially since there were plenty of other angles to go with, like his rivalry with Baek. Why they abandoned that drama in favour of trash like Asuka vs Lili and Eddy vs Lucky Chloe is beyond me, lol.
What I don't like is that his poverty is so often played for comedy. Poor people can be funny, but the reality of being poor is anything but. When I read Marshall's storyline, it's goddamn tragic. This man gets put through the wringer, but the games themselves play it off as a joke. Paul can happily live on bread n pullit, he hasn't got a home or family to worry about, whereas Marshall always has so much to lose. What would be interesting is if they had Marshall turn heel for a few games out of desperation and gave him a proper redemption arc where he could get some fat W's for once.
Unfortunately Tekken 8 looks like it's gonna give us more of the same shit, even with this badass Hokuto no Ken redesign for Law. Wasteful. Failure is supposed to be the best teacher, but Marshall seems to have taken that way too literally lol, this man will never get the payoff for his years of hardship.

Law has been the ultimate Head Cannon Character since atleast Tekken 4.
They did the reverse of what Pokémon did. Pokémon had Team Rocket around to cheer/laugh at for their misfortune, but Tekken chose to make two great characters to be laughed at for their misfortune.

The same story happened to me about the characters the first time I played, but it was in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3; UMK3 got a lot of sickass characters design but Liu Kang was the most badass to me, the way he was inspired by Bruce Lee but at the same time got his own signature trace like his long hair and red bandana got me hooked and I use him as a main even to this day. Law was always one of my favorites in the Tekken franchise but Lei and Jin were always my top main

Tekken has mostly bad stories since Tekken 3. The games may be good, but without a proper ending, without a serious resolution to these characters, it's hard to take them seriously. I'm very disappointed, especially with how they treat Law and Paul. And when I aid that in another video ("Tekken 8 All Characters Ending (4K60FPS 2024)"), everyone wanted to crucify me.
