Is it just me, or did they do something of a stealth rollback on ship prices and the economy with that last update? I experimented with starting two different US 1890 campaigns yesterday - one that auto-generated my fleet (and surprisingly generated some half decent ships that only required minimal changes), and one where I built my own - and in each case, it was a comparative walk in the park, compared to what we've experienced so far with 1.6, dealing with the economy and getting ships and shipyards built.
Not sure, but they increased income to compensate with that same patch when they increased ships costs. Which might work out in the player's favor when starting a new campaign if tech budget and shipyard expansion and other expenses are the same as in pre-1.6.0.4
Auto-Resolve screwed you over pretty nicely. I want them to explain how that fleet takes that sort of damage from 2 ships, when the power of the warships was so massively in your favor. You can't auo-resolve anything in this game. Also I went and installed DIP by brothermonroe and so far I am enjoying that mod more than vanilla, takes a bit to get used to the armor difference. *edit* Just got to the part where you are trying to design a light cruiser and the tower are making it impossible, those huge towers need to get a buff when it comes to all the equipment installed in it, either we get savings because of the built in barbettes or they shouldn't be subject to weight penalties for rangefinders, radar, radio's or sonar equipment.

Yeah, I'm definitely going back to DIP with my next campaign.
