As someone who was a massive PlayTheGame fan on TH-cam during the time, they absolutely had a contact at Treyarch leaking info on all of the BO2 zombie maps as they came out and it was a known thing among their community
I kinda assumed that at the time but I think BennDown was also an engagement baiting troll before that was a common thing and would mix a few leaks with random speculation passed off as real information which he just happened to guess correctly sometimes
I fell for their “Hell’s Bells” video, seems like a total red herring claiming there was an unknown trigger for a side easter egg that would play a seemingly unused audio file of some bells ringing lol
although that file is actually in the game to be fair. but yea if anything Playthegamecentral MAYBE had someone in the know about the Jimmy Zielinski’s plans before the campaign team took over
I used to have the picture they teased of origins on my old pc. They were also saying “The giant was in France” during the time so I was positive we were gonna be in trenches under the Eiffel Towerfor origins lol kinda nostalgic
@ I think it helped but with Mob being first I think it helped people come back. I think the part origins plays is more so showing that Mob wasn’t a one off and it gave people hope for the next zombies by Treyarch which they did deliver.
The PTG video was specifically put up with no instructions as a "fuck you" to another zombies channel they had beef with at the time, who would mass upload "tutorial" videos of EEs when they were really just grasping at straws - their tranzit "tutorial" series was like 40 videos long or something silly iirc with absolute swathes of incorrect information or entire ten minute videos where they'd just be shooting at random shit on the map hoping something would happen, as opposed to PTG who would, at the time, generally wait until they knew for sure what was needed to complete the Easter egg before making a video on it. Benn (the guy talking during the PTG clip at 14:00) has never hidden that he has connections inside Treyarch and knows story and EE details way before the community as well. In fact, he's released songs under his music label that just straight up describe ending cutscenes years before they come out (albeit cryptically). It's specifically part of the reason PTG never posted steps as well - so the hunt wouldn't be ruined for others.
I know you're refering to NGT here. And I played with NGT for a while during BO3. The videos you're talking about weren't guides but step speculations, to guide the community to do their own work, so everyone could get to the same step and continue hunting. Benn of PTG was being an ass on purpose because he knew the steps because they were given to him, and he's just shit on NGT and Noah and others who were actually hunting.
@ there’s a difference between speculation and milking. They made like 45 videos on transit within the first month 😂 NGT are the epitome of “I am here because it makes money’ him quitting after he stopped making money is massive proof
I watched PTG growing up, way back since World at War. I can tell you with certainty they had an insider at Treyarch. They used to have a website with a chatroom and I soecifically remember someone dropping the employee's name. Im still a fan of them at heart, and Benn (the head of PTG) makes some incredible music inspired by the original cod zombkes story.
Also, as a San Francisco Bay Area Native… it’s Alcatraz. Obviously it’s gonna be foggy when the city has named the fog that rolls in the entire SF “Karl” and fog is a huge part of the atmosphere of what makes SF a little unique as a location
Oh yeah PTG had an inside informant for sure. I'm fairly certain they got in contact just prior the whole Mob fiasco. I think their informant might have been on Blundell's team because they had the most information on Mob and Origins. Memorable moments of Ben leaking information that I recall being a viewer was him signing off a commentary video with "We're Verdun here" which is the location of the origins battlefield. He also uploaded an unlisted video months before Origins released with him just staring into the camera saying "Der Riese is in France, or more specifically, The Giant is in France" then linked it in the description leading up to the maps release. And another for origins was he did a dual commentary with a popular Brazilian(?) zombies creator. I believe Ben was trying to platform content creators he enjoyed at the time instead of beefing with the ones he disliked. So he had this guy in the video with him and they gloated that they had the info but were holding onto it (Typical Ben behavior) and he asked the other creator to say what the Origins wonder weapon would be in his native language, and he said "o bordão" which is Staff. Honestly used to love PTG's stuff but in retrospect, they were kinda full of themselves for being a bunch of zombies youtubers lol
they just had the privilege of being cocky because there weren’t as many super intellectually driven autistic ass (positive) data miners, lore experts, speedrunners etc in the CoD community at the time
i dont know if he did multiple collabs but one of them was with this popular mexican zombies youtuber. Might just be the same guy you're talking about because I do remember Benn very explicitly saying that the new maps wonder weapon was a Staff. That guy had hella inside info for some reason.
It used to be different though. There weren't 100 different YTers posting video and tweets etc. It used to be avoidable and now it's simply not, everything is solved before more than half of us even play.
Mob of the dead as a special place in my heart as my first easter egg, me and my cousin did it since it only required 2 players we did together and after that I started to do more easter eggs when bo3 started.

Those were done so well that I can't help but to be left wanting more haha, guess thats my attempt to complement your great narrating skills by crying for longer videos!!

Also, you may not meant to, but it is a crazy coincidence the video came out one day after the Bo3 remaster realeased on the Steam workshop, it is a pleasant surprise.
One of the old members of PTG, JoeTrocious, actually joined treyarch sometime after PTG stopped uploading. His twitter states hes a level artist at treyarch. But they definitely had insider info before that. I even recall Benn saying he knew someone. I mean his music would foreshadow the future of the zombies storyline. I miss PTG. Their content felt cryptic and kept the zombies feel, as opposed to other content creators at the time who just wanted worlds first and didnt put effort into actually creating content. PTG kept the mysticism alive

PTG would flat out say that they knew people close to the game. They would always be first to post the guide but would wait till everyone else was just about to finish to not spoil it too soon.
Benn from PTG had insider knowledge from Zielinski's team. He never denied it. He was fed map concepts before they were even announced, and he was given steps before the map launched. Heck, I wouldn't even be shocked if Zielinsky himself was leaking it. Because as soon as BO2 had passed, PTG knew nothing. And that's when Blundell truly took over. And yeah, what he did was really unfair. You had teams such as NGT, Noah, Milo...busting their asses to solve this, while Benn just got it on a sliver platter, claimed worlds first, and then proceeded to shit on everyone not on his friends list.
PlayTheGame very openly had someone working at Treyarch, Ben has said so in a little podcast thing he did with JrRizzo. Knowing the entire map(presumably, where perks, power boxes for Afterlife, Craftable items, etc. are) 2 entire days before release, I’d say is a huge advantage.
For the mystery of the 3 inmates escaping Alcatraz or not, there’s a documentary called Alcatraz Escape: The Lost Evidence where the family shares evidence of the Anglin brothers escape. Was entertaining and highly recommend watching it.

More then likely. Even though the community finds some of the “major ee’s “ relatively fast, there are always some small one hidden that take a while to find. Some don’t get found at all.
you got to revive yourself multiple times and be rewarded with power ups and ease of weapon choice though, it's about as new player friendly as it gets
Good knowledge! "Period accurate" was more a reference to the fact that there were some new non-futuristic weapons added, as Black Ops 2 was set in 2025 and most of the zombies weapons in the launch maps were these futuristic weapons. Thanks for picking up on that tho!
@evanf1997 I get ya. It's like shadows of evil being set in a similar period but all the guns are super futuristic. The only ones I can think of on that map that arnt are the starting revolver and type 100 (forgot the game name) smg.

I just wanna say, I really find a problem with these videos trying to capture zombie easter eggs to that of a world's first race in Destiny. Easter Egg World's First matters to literally no one outside of a few big TH-camrs who desperately care about a title no one cares about. Easter Eggs are a community effort, it's hours and even days in some cases of forums, reddits, discords all coming together to solve something. And I feel these videos in the way they are labelling easter eggs as a race for world's first are really disingenuous in capturing that community spirit and also fuel the very toxic cycle that really began to boil over and ruin the community during BO4 when people really started getting toxic about being World's First.
Where would YOU rank Mob of the Dead in the all time Zombies maps? 🤔

More then likely. Even though the community finds some of the “major ee’s “ relatively fast, there are always some small one hidden that take a while to find. Some don’t get found at all.
@realnoble676 ya just would be nice to have a dev confirm there is something to look for still
Mob was NOT new player friendly. Tight corridors and needed a guide to get pack a punch. Buried was way more new player friendly.
you got to revive yourself multiple times and be rewarded with power ups and ease of weapon choice though, it's about as new player friendly as it gets
you included the UZI in "period actuate" this map takes place in 1933 but the UZI wasn't invented till 1950.
I was the first person in the world to complete mob of the dead in australia and the world we got it early and i completed it within the hour it came out by myself. Xbox 360 18/04/2013 australia time 8pm at night that brit is full of it 15th ? Didnt come out

EVAN IS A BERSERK FAN??
Yet another book into why treyarch needs to make the day 1 Easter egg hunt a thing. Get rid of these cheaters man
Can you do origins next?
I was excited expecting a bit more depth to your video being 16 mins long, maybe more nuance than PTG just 'cheating'
Keep it close to dalek the bloke who can’t even write his own scripts and has to copy mr rolf for everything
