Thank you so much for posting this. I bought a used long arm w the butler system. I hadn’t used it for 5 months due to holidays and health issues. Went to use and had no recollection of what to do. Pushed buttons for several hours before dinner and watching this. Ready to go tomorrow. I already basted it today. My issues are I have medically induced Alzheimer’s. Once off med that caused it I still have a 30-35 percent residual Alzheimer’s. I still do my best to pursue my passion of quilting. When under the throw of full on Alzheimer’s I never dreamed of having my life back. So warning if someone begins acting odd look at the meds first. I try to educate everyone after the horror we lived through for 2.5 years.
I know this is an older video. I do hope you get my message. Thank you so much for putting this out. I just quilted my first quilt following your instructions and it worked out perfectly. This video answered a lot of questions and gave me the confidence to go for it. And my first long arm quilt turned out beautifully!!! Thank you!!
Oh Becky! I loved this video sooooo much! I wish I could “like” it a million times! You are my very favorite quilter! What a great instructor you are! This quilt you have on the machine is beyond beautiful! It makes my heart sing! 🥰 I would love to have a longarm like yours but just can’t seem to get hubby to say ok. 🤷🏼♀️ I guess at 71 yrs of age, it just isn’t the wisest expenditure for me. But ohhh, would I love one! So thank you for letting me have my dream through your video! ❤️✝️
Aren't you sweet? Thank you for your kind words. My hubby realized the longarm would pay for itself when he got the first couple of bills from the longarmer and my stash was the size of the Pyramids so there were more quilt tops to come. lol
Becky, please make a few more of these videos. I’m a newer long arm quilter and you helped clarify one of my issues which is advancing the quilt and repositioning the pattern. I would love any quilt loading tips using the snappers or similar items. I’m learning machine embroidery, appliqué, and the brother scan and cut from you. I have a Bernina sewing/embroidery machine so it’s not as seamless as with your machine but at least you show the methods clearly and I can adapt. Love your videos. Beautiful quilt! Thanks again.
Just discovered your video. You have no idea how helpful it is. I feel so overwhelmed when at my long arm. The training I had was terrible. I just loaded a quilt and am going to go through your video while at my machine. Hope you have more videos.
Thanks for showing your process. I have the Butler and I don't mind saying I get confused at all the buttons! Your explanations and demonstration help tremendously!
Thanks. I've watched many videos on the Butler and it's so hard when the user doesn't tell you what you're about to do, which button they are going to use, and why. She's says "And I'm going to tell it to do "x" and her hand is in the way and after she clicks, I didn't see what happened and she's already off on the next thing while my brain is still processing what I didn't see. I don't understand why a company who wants to sell these things doesn't offer expert instruction on the web. That will give the potential customer time to evaluate the interface and see if it's for them. These things are outrageously expensive so having good training should be an essential part of the marketing I would think. I even hunted down a Butler rep at the Houston Show one year to specifically ask about how to work the nesting feature and she said, "Oh I don't use it. I do it the old fashioned way and keep a note pad next to my work with the measurements of how far apart I want the patterns." Really. So...that's what I do.
Thank you, Becky. I will never be able to afford another machine for anything, but I loved watching your video tutorial. If I ever win the lottery I will treat myself to something wonderful like a big quilter. I am battling post polio so, I would have to get a table for sitting while I quilt. This was great. Thanks again.
I'm so glad I found your video. You made it really easy to understand the basics of quilting with the butler system! I hope you make more videos. I'm new to long arming and your video was so helpful
yes, very helpful. I don't have a longarm because of restrictive space and expense. But if my ship ever comes in to port I would love to have one. I freehand my king size quilts on my Bernina 880, lots of handling but I eventually get them done. I would have lots of investigating to do before I could choose which to buy, thanks for your info, I always enjoy your videos
Thanks Becky, I just got my Butler up and running (after much frustration) I did learn something.. I didn’t know you could move the pattern after you set the repeats.
Great Job Becky. I have to stay I love the way you talk. I can so identify. When you say just not my thang. So true, I have a long arm which is all manual operated, but am searching for a software system to add to it. Thanks for sharing and so glad I found your channel couple of weeks ago
Wow Becky! Great job! I wondered what your machine was like. One day I wish to have one too. Maybe when I retire in 7 years, 11 months and 21 days. (But who’s counting?)
Diane B....LOL...we all count those days don't we? I don't know if I will admit that I wasn't "shocked" when my Neurosurgeon insisted I go on disability and retire early....but TBH(?) he did me a wonderful favor at the time that I didn't realize. My dear sweet husband/soulmate died 8 yrs later. Had I not been retired due to disability I would have missed those wonderful years with my awesome husband!!! So, it was a win-win I'll admit. I love quilting and would love to own something like this.....I think all of us quilters would!
What a lovely quilt, and helpful video. I recently got a frame, and a quilt machine. I am a bit scared of it, but I am going to go slow and I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks!
Love it! I just ordered the KQ II Elite ! Have the frame up but that’s it so far, ordered pantographs that’ll be the first time for me and looking forward to free motion quilting , now you’ve got my curiosity up with the Butler ha ha !! great job thank you so much for posting this😁
Hi Becky, I’m using the Ruby Butler and am new at it! I do not want to use nesting but am unsure how to start the second row. I’ve just rewatched your video and I think I have to edit the pattern placement to do that. I’ll try it now. It works! Just need to get my placing better.
I just found your channel. I've been struggling with the butler for 6+ years using the 2016 Artistic 26x8 with the same butler software configured for TinLizzie. This video is extremely helpful for using the e2e features. Thank you ! for showing these tools for sizing the patterns
Beautiful! Oh how I wish I could get one of the longarm quilting machines. Maybe someday. Right now I love watching you use yours and making these beautiful quilts. Keep posting for us. Love your videos.
I have the King Quilter 2, so I am free motioning. Someday I'll get me the Butler robotics! I would love more quilting videos. Trimming your quilt in the frame is a great idea! I'll try that on my next quilt! Thank you!
Than you for your video. Even though we have different operations, I still enjoy how people do different things. Your quilt is darling. Happy quilting!
I love that my LQS (local quilt store) has Thread Tuesday where you can buy 3 spools of any thread and get one free. That's when I get at least 2 of each color.
Loved watching your technique using your long arm. I just ordered the King Quilter II ELITE with Qbot. My old machine used robotics too but is now old and outdated. Can't wait for it to come in. I would love an occasional video dealing with the long arm thanks!
Hey Becky! I found this video last year when I kept getting confused about putting bindings together. I watched so many videos and followed some but this one is easiest by far. I always prop my tablet up next to my sewing machine and watch it every time I bind a quilt. I would know it by heart if I finished quilts more often but there are usually a month or two between quilting. Video is only 2 minutes long and doesn't even take that long to sew bindings togethere..hope you like it. Well it won't let me copy and paste it so there must be a rule about that. I'll try to put it in a comment below.
It's now June 2021. 🙂 I have a Husqvarna Platinum 3000 with a robot system that I use frequently, although sometimes, when I don't need perfection, I free motion quilt. I had little to no training for the computerized robot program. I have done a lot of self-taught learning. Your video was helpful to me. Thanks for sharing. I would like to have more quilting patterns. Where do you get updates? Do you orders patterns individually? If so, where?
The nesting feature is really easy to do once it clicks for you. Choose the nest feature, move to the lowest point and drop the needle just like you did. The little notes at the bottom tells you what to do next. It will say something like 'mark your nesting point". Click ok or check mark I can't remember while sitting here. Then it will tell you to roll the quilt. Roll the quilt, straighten it out. Do not sew the edges or touch another button or anything until you are through the nesting feature. Once you have rolled the quilt hit the check mark, hit check mark again and again without doing anything else until the nesting is complete. THEN baste the sides. It really is that simple. It works perfectly each time. Wish I knew how to do a video I would do one for you.
Great video! Very informative. I use a sit down long arm. I don't have the space for a standup. I am just getting comfortable with quilting in this machine. Thank you for your videos. Keep them coming!
thank you. learned a lot from video. I have the quilt magician which appears similar. I have to learn that! my machine is TL18 is a 2012 and love it. Gift from my hubby. I do some free motion and not to my liking tho. I'm trying to learn what to do after the first section is done and what's next. any more videos coming?
I don't yet have a long arm, but truly appreciated the technique hints. Not sure yet if I can justify purchasing a longarm yet, but do enjoy watching you do it. Helps take the mystery out of a very mysterious activity, and may influence a purchase eventually. Thx. Keep it up.
Like I said on FB I have the same kit I purchased from Craftsy back in 2015. That is finally my next project. Just love it. Wish I had a decent long arm. I am envious.
Great job! I kind of want one but dont think I have room. Have looked at sit down ones sort of. I would need one that did the auto designs as I suck at fmq. I am trying edge/edge on dsm/embroider unit. Lots of hooping lol. Thanks for sharing
So happy to see your video. I have had my Tin Lizzie for about 8 years. I recently added the Quilt-Ez Android like you have. Still learning how to use it. Hope you do more tutorials. I do have a question. What is the purple thing right above your needle? Thanks
Oh I would love to have a long arm but don't think that will ever happen. So I guess I'll just keep using my domestic and my "short arms"! But I still enjoy watching you use yours and the wonderful things you can do with them.
How long did it take to quilt this piece after you had it on the frame? I used to weave on a four harness loom. Before you can weave it's 17 steps prior to the first shuttle pass. Your longarm set up has lots of steps prior to actually quilting. I believe this video shows why longarmers charge the fees they do to their customers. Thank you again for another great video!!!!!
The set up to get the quilt on the frame is about 45 minutes to load the backing on with the Red Snappers, properly place the batting and top, and then do the initial basting. The entire process took about 4 hours. Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video. Never thought of trimming the quilt on the back of the quilt frame. I noticed you keep a big roll of batting on the batting bar. Do you pull up and cut a piece the size of the quilt?
Yes, that's exactly how I do it. I make a snip at the correct length on each side and then aim a horizontal laser light at it as a cutting line. Then I take it to the table and cut the batting to the same width as the backing.
Very interesting! Did your quilt butler come with any of the designs or did you have to buy them all separately? It was interesting to see that you basted each section as you went. Have you ever used a bag of beans on top of the quilt as you' quilted to apply tension to the top of the quilt? Reason I ask I saw Leah day do that on one of her videos. I can't afford a long arm but I would love to try to rent one sometime thanks for the demo.
Nearly all of the designs you saw in the options came with the Butler. I have only purchased a handful of them. Yes, I've heard of bean bags and cans of soup that roll along, etc. I've been doing it this way for so long I don't even think about using something else. I always baste each section as I go so the foot doesn't get stuck under the edge of the fabric. I've heard of basting all over and then quilting, but I just do it as I go and it works for me.
Thank you Becky - your video is so helpful - I have watched it 8-9 times as I have a new systems that is very different than my old one. Question - how do you reduce the vibration? Is your system on carpet? I have wood floors. One other thing - do you find it is smoother to use the robotics than to FMQ? I felt very choppy in my FMQ - probably because of the difference in the weight of this machine versus my old one.
Becky I have my butler all on but I dont understand the plug ins on the box. I've already made a boo boo with the plug in so I'm a little skeptical to start plugging in stuff.
Thank you !! Your video save me from selling my Bulter. It has been very helpful! You are my first choice when I need information and inspiration. When you go to any of Quilting Design to download them to Bulter do you just order the square or whole row? I my first time downloading I just nor sure I hoping you can help. Thanks!
Hi Becky I have this machine with the butler and a month ago I got the 1023 error, I have cleaned oiled and shut down and cleared the tablet and every day I try it and it continues to give the error. I am so frustrated wondering if you have any suggestions- I’ve called sewing machines plus weekly and they stopped calling me back ( so sad they cannot help me) where I live there are no people to help me so I thought I would ask you. Thank you I love watching your TH-cam videos. Jackie
So enjoyed that it was very interesting and informative. Is the Quilt Butler independent or is the software you by for that particular machine. As I am thinking of buying software I would be glad to watch any video that will help me. 👍😀 Thank you for your time
The Quilt Butler is separate and can go on almost any brand of longarm machine. I'll link to QuiltEZ's website below - they make the Butler. Mine was about $5k and Sewing Machines Plus has a contract with QuiltEZ to customize that particular longarm, King Quilter Special Edition, so it only runs with the robot (that's what they call the computer on a longarm). I bought mine all kit-and-kaboddle so I'm not sure of the process to buy one separately and customize your current machine. Of course, I got the 10" screen for my bad eyes. lol www.quiltez.com/ www.quiltez.com/butler/
I really enjoyed this video. I have a long arm and want to add computerized quilting. This seems like an affordable option. I already have a stitch regulator but what other options would you add to your Butler system?
I loved seeing this, Becky! It helped take some of the mystery out of long arm quilting. QUESTION: How did you learn to use the Quilt Butler? Did you take in-person classes from a shop? Or did a representative come to your house to set it up and teach you, step by step? Please continue to make these kinds of videos. And please create a playlist for them. They will definitely help many others, too. Thank you! -- Becca with My Stitchy Home
Ha, take a class...not hardly. Not unless you consider TH-cam a class. lol And there aren't any reps around me. I'm completely self-taught. For some sadistic reason, I always do things the hard way! I've been meaning to set up playlists. Need to do that... Thanks!
@@PowerToolsWithThread I am completely self taught also. When I bought my setup the gentleman was going out of business and the new owners had no interest in the longarm. There aren't any dealers in our area except for a Gammal sales center. I really can't afford a Gammal and my Artistic 26DX from Janome does everything that I need. With out youtube and folks like yourself I would still be lost.
@@sewnana1990 That's why I make these videos! lol Glad to help. Wish I knew more but it's kind of trial and error. I sent a link of the video to QuiltEZ and they were like, "Thanks for letting us know. We'll be in touch." In other words, don't call us, we'll call you. lol
I recently tested a few quilting machines including a few longarms. I realized that I, don't have the room, don't have the skill and don't have the $$$$. Edge to Edge on my Dream is more to my liking!
I have watched this video over and over. I am doing exactly as you show. Everything is great, however, the pattern always comes up short a couple inches on the right side when done stitching . HELP!
Becky ... two questions... Can a qiult Butler be put on a Sit down machine...i realize that the quilt would have to be manually advanced sideways... and Is your shirt from Life is Good? I love it!!
I am guessing that the basting also helps with stabilizing the edge to attach binding to. You don’t rip the basting out, right? The cutting mat idea is Genius!
No I do not rip out the basting. It also helps keep the quilting foot from sneaking under the edge of the fabric as it passes back and forth over it. Boy, THAT'S a mess! I saw that cutting mat idea on a blog somewhere years ago. I nearly fell out of my chair. Wrangling that quilt on a cutting table was such a PITA. Having the frame rails hold the weight is so nice while I cut.
Thank you so much for posting this. I bought a used long arm w the butler system. I hadn’t used it for 5 months due to holidays and health issues. Went to use and had no recollection of what to do. Wonderful video Becky! Makes me want my own longarm. But I only finish few quilts per year. But it would surely make it easier.
Just beautiful!! My wish is to have a longarm someday. Love the quilt butler too. Always good to have a goal.😉
Nice quilt! Thanks for sharing this.

Yay! It's such a pretty quilt and yours has been sitting too long! It's really a quick sew because the blocks are so big. Have fun! :)
Your free motion looks amazing, certainly better than mine even just tension testing
Great video Becky. I don't have a longarm but am interested to see how you operate one.

Hi Becky awesome video. You are such a great teacher.
What brand of quilting thread do you use?
I normally reach for Isacord of all things. It stitches beautifully and never breaks.
That is a beautiful quilt!!
I learn from every instructional video you put up. Thank you so much for doing long arm. I would enjoy more. Thank you 😊
So happy to see your video. I have had my Tin Lizzie for about 8 years. I recently added the Quilt-Ez Android like you have. Still learning how to use it. Hope you do more tutorials. I do have a question. What is the purple thing right above your needle? Thanks
It's a thread cutter! I got it at the Houston show last year. ThreadCutterz. Thanks for watching!
Too flipping cool!! Someday I will get one of those!!
Love it I have the same system but I’m having trouble with it since I bought it I’m on an imperial frame could that be the problem I’m having
Oh I would love to have a long arm but don't think that will ever happen. So I guess I'll just keep using my domestic and my "short arms"! But I still enjoy watching you use yours and the wonderful things you can do with them.
Excellent, this was very interesting!
Thank you that was awesome i have free hand mine but you had good tips thanks hugs
Thanks for watching!
I loved this video. Thanks for making a very interesting and informative video.
The video is called Joining a binding, and it was on Michelles Patchwork. Just searching Joining a binding should bring it up.
So very interesting...I’m green with envy 😘💐
Such great help! Thank you!
So interesting. Thank you 😊
Becky I have my butler all on but I dont understand the plug ins on the box. I've already made a boo boo with the plug in so I'm a little skeptical to start plugging in stuff.
You might try the Butler group on FB. They are great about questions like this.
@@PowerToolsWithThread thank you I don't have a facebook page but I went ahead and signed my husband up.
Thank you !! Your video save me from selling my Bulter. It has been very helpful! You are my first choice when I need information and inspiration. When you go to any of Quilting Design to download them to Bulter do you just order the square or whole row? I my first time downloading I just nor sure I hoping you can help. Thanks!
very nice, love watching long arm quilting, how are you going to bind the quilt? that is my hardest part.
I'll machine bind it. No hand stitching for me.
Jackie
good - loads of help - now to see if I can do this!
I think at the time, I purchased everything I could with it. Total investment was approx. $15k.
We'll be in touch." In other words, don't call us, we'll call you. lol
P.S. I just love all of your videos!
Can a qiult Butler be put on a Sit down machine...i realize that the quilt would have to be manually advanced sideways... and
Is your shirt from Life is Good?
Thank you so much for sharing
do you ever use paper pantographs? and that quilt is absolutely stunning.
I've tried paper and I'm horrible at it. That's why I invested in the computer. Thank you for your kind words! :)
Do you ever baste your quilt all the way around before you do the long arm quilting?
I love the quilt.
Becky..did the tablet you use come with the quilt butler or did you buy it separately? Are you happy with your QB purchase?
Cute shirt!
