I had a 60 Series diesel Landc*****r with free wheeling hubs. wear and tear aside (no problems over 300,000 klm). I kept meticulous fuel consumption records with the hubs locked and unlocked. There was absolutely no difference and, if kept locked, no need to activate them in 4WD situations.. Thanks for the videos, takes me back to our using Land Rovers in the late 60's in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Australia.... Alloy heads and iron blocks in the 6 cylinder models did not mix well with bore water coolant plus we became expert broken rear axle exchangers.

rednwhitecooper that's why the Range Rover was so revolutionary as it had permanent 4x4 drive with all the benefits of safety and none of the drawbacks of steering wheel kicking in your hand and the vehicle hopping and skipping along the tarmac. All due to the centre differential and the ability to lock li.

The Greek yoghurt container is critically important. It HAS to be the natural yoghurt. Unlike natures natural bacterial delight, the saccharides of Unnatural yoghurt are induced (create undesirable covalent bonding) by the molecular matrix of the plastic. This disrupts the magnetic field of any ferrous object in the container, rendering any rust removal futile. Dont think I didnt pick that up G Man!

I had AVM hubs in my 2A and the best thing was FINALLY getting rid of the oil leaks around that felt seal and castle nut... When I was a member of the Canterbury Landrover Owners Club... many had these and as far as I recall - everyone thought they were great... Mine was a daily driver and the petrol savings were definitely tangible.

Love your channel, can easily say I am having a blast remembering my Old 72 S3. well as to the fuel consumption, that mostly depends on how "heavy" your foot is, I had a Petrol '72, and from my experience it pretty much chose the speed it wanted to drive at, you could plunge the accelerator all you wanted (and yes eventually it would go up to ludicrous speed 80 km/h :P ) but it would mostly just spit the gas out of the muffler. my suggestion if any L/R petrol engine owners are interested in fuel consumption is 1. do not change the carb for some after market part. Use the original and tune it well 2. install the hubs, they do help 3. install a vacumm gage in the cabin, so you can better tell when fuel is been wasted because of your lack of manners with the pedal ! Cheers :)
