- It's been 6 years since I last pruned my Yucca forest, so today I'm pruning them back to size. This is a risky operation and will often give unpredictable results.

The more I see your yucca forest the more I like it! It will be interesting to see how the plants develop after this major pruning. Enjoyed the chicken update. And, the bonsai updates were great as well. Have you ever tried using cinnamon as a bonsai cut sealer? We use that as a sealer in orchid growing whenever we make a cut on on orchid.

Very Nice Nigel! Elmers Is a Borden's Dairy product Elmer was the Bull, Elsie was the Cow(wife) and the teenage Calf was the chocolate milk ambassador. To be fair I always felt that the association of Bulls and Glue to be more than a little suspect. Poor Elmer.
Someone: "Hey here's some sealing paste especially developed for Bonsai. It's cheap, seals perfect, looks good and it's even antifungal!"
Nigel: "No, I take wood glue!"

It's not even wood glue, it's Elmer's school glue.
To be honest, it makes sense to me! You can get a more even seal using glue and it's easier to peel away when dried. I actually have a lot of problems getting my sealing paste to stick properly, and I feel like an improper seal is just begging for some kind of rot over time.
@@williamaitken7533 Everyone can do what he likes. But have you ever tried Kaneshin Paste? Great product, pretty cheap (i think cheaper than wood glue), lasts long, easy to apply (like wood glue) and you dont have to peel it off cause it becomes translucent, when it dries up.
But sure you can use wood glue. It works Ok. But for me Kaneshin is definetely the better product. I was not my intension to provoke bad feelings. Read it with humour! ;)
I'm looking forward to an update video on this tree when the branches sprout back.

Thanks Nigel for inspiring videos. Inspired by your videos I have also started to grow bonsai in a small scale. One thing I want to request that at the end of your video just show clipping of before and after pruning view so that viewers can see the difference. Thanks a lot

I think the Yucca's will indeed,do fine in a while or so,in fact all of your trees will,becouse they are confident with your care and attention,I can tell!. And the chickenhouse,its just ,I love it,the chickens as well,they are cute and thriving,too. Feels like a good place to live and be, all together.! Thanks for sharing!
Those two main yuccas have some alien looking trunks. Love them. I remember last time you pruned the forest. It looked awesome once the new leaves started to grow.

The trunks are amazing! I actually like how the previous cut fattens and the new shoot makes the branches sort of step up. It's blocky, like minecraft. LOL

very unique. i love it. thank you for sharing.
maybe next time you cut it, consider cutting at an angle so the scars will be less noticeable over time and will show better taper. I dont mind scars on my bonsais (i think they give great character) but many bonsai artists try to avoid them.

I used to hate yukkas. I chopped mine down. Dug up another. The one I chopped grew back new shoots. It clearly wants to live so I feel kinda bad for it now. I'm going to dig it up, pot it up and turn it into a bonsai

Nigel, When pruning Yucca plants, do you need to chop all the branches off to promote new growth, i.e. do not leave any leave?
Have u ever tried chicken manure as compost for bonsai
After a hard pruning, do you put the cuttings in water to regrow them?

You know you gotta chop that white pine back to the one bud... you need to take any opportunity you get for taper with that thing lol
Elmer's glue for sealant? That's alot cheaper than automotive gasket silicone 😅

On the next repotting you should try cooking the roots. Very delicious and, why not??? They're edible and well taken care of :)
All mine died over the winter. I must not have protected them enough. It gets cold.
I wonder if it would give more movement if the cuts were at a steeper angle.
Maybe, I did angled cuts on the initial chops and they worked well!
the tree in the front left looks like a beautiful pregnant woman dancing with (chubby) arms in the air.
