I was so surprised by what showed up with your words, “your darkest hour”. I did not expect this memory. If I really thought about it, this experience would NOT have been the one I chose. I would have expected the birth of my children and how that completely and suddenly shifted my life to have ranked in the top 5. Or really any difficult experiences I’ve had with my kids would have appeared as one of these dark moments. But a romantic breakup? @AndriaAntell I hear you. I'm 61 and I have seen, and wrestled with, some of the ideas you express. What I have found, after several decades of (learning to) make room for 'easy', is that no, we probably _don't_ know what it is, other than "not hard", which is not really the same thing at all. The state of "rich" is not the same as the state of "not poor", although it contains it. My uncle once told me that "we" (meaning lower middle-class and below individuals) cannot understand/be part of "the rich" because there is a whole category of experience involved for those with a generational experience of wealth that we do not have, even if we earn/acquire a similar amount of money. I think he had a point, and that point is the barrier that keeps me (for example) from being/becoming rich -- I cannot see beyond being "not poor", and "rich", being so much more than that, says "I think I'd rather be around someone who can really appreciate all of my qualities, not just that I'm 'not all the bad stuff '." I've spent decades trying to pry off these blinders and wrenching my perspective to something a bit broader, and it hurts sometimes that it's taken so very long to see a measure of success. But I don't think we can afford to make an issue of that, because resentment and disappointment will not help us reach our goals, and looking backwards at the past most certainly will not. It doesn't matter if it's coming, if we don't *_open the gosh-danged door_*_ when it arrives._ That's the only job we have, and the only thing we should focus on. *_OPEN THE DOOR._*

Are you trying to tell me that the only way I know what easy is , is if I know what hard is. I already know what easy is. All I ever hear is that it’s coming, but I’m 64 and it has never come.
@AndriaAntell I hear you. I'm 61 and I have seen, and wrestled with, some of the ideas you express. What I have found, after several decades of (learning to) make room for 'easy', is that no, we probably _don't_ know what it is, other than "not hard", which is not really the same thing at all. The state of "rich" is not the same as the state of "not poor", although it contains it.
My uncle once told me that "we" (meaning lower middle-class and below individuals) cannot understand/be part of "the rich" because there is a whole category of experience involved for those with a generational experience of wealth that we do not have, even if we earn/acquire a similar amount of money. I think he had a point, and that point is the barrier that keeps me (for example) from being/becoming rich -- I cannot see beyond being "not poor", and "rich", being so much more than that, says "I think I'd rather be around someone who can really appreciate all of my qualities, not just that I'm 'not all the bad stuff '."
I've spent decades trying to pry off these blinders and wrenching my perspective to something a bit broader, and it hurts sometimes that it's taken so very long to see a measure of success. But I don't think we can afford to make an issue of that, because resentment and disappointment will not help us reach our goals, and looking backwards at the past most certainly will not.
It doesn't matter if it's coming, if we don't *_open the gosh-danged door_*_ when it arrives._ That's the only job we have, and the only thing we should focus on. *_OPEN THE DOOR._*
