It seems like a lot of these characters have the same personality flaws they did in Yanxi, or they've actively grown and learned from their old lives, like with Mingyu learning to think and becoming a Physician, or Prince Jiao (sp?) having the same mommy issues he did in Yanxi.
No. You won't enjoy it if you're not into history. I mean, if you know who this is based on then you pretty much know what you're in for. The first few episodes are awesome though.
If you know the history the ending sucks so much and is hella confusing, even the netizens in china were upset. If you don't know the history the ending is still just as bad if not worse, everything but the ending is good though.
