Sorry if this is a stupid question but why do some drivers let the other pull away/launch first? Like at 2:11, the near lane literally waits for the MR2 to be away before he leaves.

Reaction time doesn't matter during qualifying and it's easier to let the turbos spool up when you're already in full stage.
