Dude. So glad I found your channel. Your videos are great. As someone who loves the statistical approach to stuff, I really appreciate a video like this. I've never watched another board gaming channel on TH-cam who has a video like this. Keep up the great work! I can't wait for more videos from you.

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment. I hope you continue to drop in from time to time to tell me what’s working and what isn’t.

So glad to see someone talk about Cosmic Encounter. I never really liked Catan but everyone in my friend group at the time i was introduced to it loved it. Another friend of mine saw and purchased Cosmic Encounter and it is still to this day one of my favorite games.
Many laughs, bargains, and groans, i highly recommend Cosmic Encounter.

Wow, Explorers certainly went straight into this list. Glad you enjoyed it after I recommended it. It has had a lot of plays at our games club because it is so easy to teach. If I were to recommend another game based on the dice rolling (love Istanbul for the reasons you stated), it would be Space Base since you are also looking at the probabilities of the dice rolls.

Yes! It’s you again! Thank you for the recommendation. I was also thinking of making a “Best of Viewer Recommendations” but I’m holding off until I’ve compared a few more.
I have a space-themed list I’m working on. I’ll take a look at Space Base before I finish it.

I see. Yes, Space Base would be appropriate for this list. It reminds me too of Machi Koro.

Love this list! Have played many of these but can’t wait to try Explorers and Racoon Tycoon! I agree that Via Nebula is a great next game after Catan, especially for people nervous to play ‘board games’ with people who have been playing a while. I enjoy introducing newbies to Via Nebula plus it is beautiful which is always a plus. Keep posting! And I just got my shirt, the quality is amazing both the drawing and the fabric.

Thank you! I’m so glad to hear you like the shirt and thank you for sharing. Yes, Via Nebula is indeed very approachable game. It has been a favorite for years.

My First Carcassone has been a hit with my 5 and 9 y/o sons-so, I grabbed a copy of Pompeii, when I heard that it was designed/developed by the same gentleman who had created MFC. …I was on the fence about Pompeii, due to the general theme of a volcano (Vesuvius) erupting and pretty much obliterating a whole city-some people had mentioned that in their reviews…we should be receiving it soon, and I am interested to see whether or not my 5 year old takes to it or not. …thanks for the great list/video, Ben!

One of the difficulties (for the littles) with Pompeii is that there are two pretty distinct phases. The idea that the placement of citizens (in the first phase) is a setup for the second phase (escaping) is lost on my youngest. In other words: The kids love escaping from the volcano and throwing citizens into the volcano. It would almost be worth it to just randomly set up a whole bunch of citizens in the city, have players pick a player color, then just play the second phase of the game. Something to think about.

Recently your channel popped up in my playlist.....subbed! I'm always looking for good 2 player games so Explorers looks inviting & it appears the US release is imminent so good timing :) Via Nebula is intriguing but reading somewhat mixed opinions on the 2 player experience w/ that one. Have you tried it (Via Nebula) w/ 2?

I’ve played it with 2 several times. It is like many other 2-4 player games: in two player, you can put your attention on what your only opponent is doing and it is more competitive, whereas in 3-4 player, you have so many competitors Than rather than keep track of everyone else, you focus more on yourself. Gameplay is different, but not worse/better… unless you don’t like a competitive game.

I never liked Catan, glad I got 7 Wonders at the same time I started trying hobby board games

Yeah. I didn’t mention this in the video because I wanted to focus on its strengths and how they can be realized in other games, but I don’t really play Catan these days.

Sorta. The original video had errors in all the titles. This is the correct video with proper titles.
