Regia Marina had a tremendous fleet. It's operations were largely curtailed by ever present lack of fuel and somewhat inferior night action capabilities compared to RN. But, fine looking ships.

Actually the Regia Marina humiliated the Royal Navy during the WW2. Then the ships of the Regia Marina were not only beautiful but were also among the most powerful and and technologically advanced. Much better than the British, German and Japanese ships

Calabria, Cape Spada, Otranto, Taranto, Spartivento, Cape Bon, Matapan, First Sirte, Second Sirte, Pedestal..
Apart from Alexandria raid, and Vigorous convoy (to which one might include Pantellaria from Harpoon), a record of Italian defeat culminating in an intact fleet, that couldn't even wipe out a light cruiser squadron with 15 inch guns, surrendering.
One point though; while inferior to the British, who indeed had a moral asendency contrary to revisionist narratives (as Cunningham said of Second Sirte, we know what the outcome would have been had the roles been reversed), the Regina Marina was not incompetent. It had good ships and good officers, as well as competent ratings- it's strategic doctrine (mainly Mussolini's) was fatal to Italy and the Axis in WWII; even without carriers, good land based air coordination, or ample fuel stocks, it had all the firepower to strangle Malta in early 1942.
Of course, the allies made a massive blunder in 1943. The idiocy of dividing the Italian Fleet and essentially wasting Veneto, Italia and Caesare (plus escorts) after the handover rather than sending them (like Riecheliu) to join Somerville in the spring of 1944 was unfortunate for not just the British but also long-term for the US.
A much stronger Eastern Fleet would have enabled landings, not just carrier raids, on Sumatra with Indian troops in 1944, followed by Malaya in early 1945. And under Churchill's watch rather than Atlee's, reassertion of British power in southeast Asia would have had much greater effect

@@giudicedredd9195 I would not go that far in my conclusions. Regia Marina fought bravely, with it's shortcomings (lack of air coordination and lesser night capability.
And what about the technical level of italian ships? Lacking radar and terrible dispersion of their gunnery salvos (quality issues with the propellants charges?) were their main handicaps. In these senses all other major navies outclassed the Regia Marina.
All in all, RN was capable of giving strikes like Taranto and Matapan. And axis missed their momentum after Alexandria raid.
      (No humiliation either way.)

@@Ah01 You have proven that you do not know history. Where do you study history? On Mickey Mouse? Lack of night capability? Go and inform to the RN Tarigo that in numerical inferiority and without radar. Sank the HMS Mohawk and put to flight the other three destroyers. Or find out about RN Lupo and Scipione Africano. The Regia Marina has always humi* iated the Royal Navy. The technical level of the Italian ships were among the best. The lack of radar was the fault of that coven of traitors called Supermarina. And after 1941, radar was installed on the most important ships. And it was superior to the German and Japanese radar. And then the Regia Marina was among the first to build a class of ships with sonar (and was the only Axis nation to have ships with sonar). Then the Regia Marina had no problems with the dispersion of the salve (or properly charge issues). Where did you see this? On Word of Warships? The Italian ships were very accurate, see the Battle of mezzo Giugno, the first and second Battle of Sierte. Although the Italian ships had to always chase the English ships. Since Cunningham ran away with his entire fleet (also in Matapan) when he saw the Littorio or the Vittorio Veneto. But it’s useless to talk about these things with you, since you’ve proven to study history on videogames like Word of Warships
