Lovely video! The try looks great! Is the tray waterproof after the varnish? I know it is not food-safe, but I was wondering if I could use something made of air-dry clay to put underneath a plant pot. Thank you.
I think if you use a plant safe varnish you could use it to put underneath a plant pot. I personally haven't tried that as I am too afraid to damage my plants. Otherwise using just air dry clay without any varnish could potentially affect the air dry clay
Thank you so much! It's definitely not safe for eating. This is just for decorative objects. I would suggest you go with clay varnish although it might not work with gouache

I had to wet it and break it unfortunately.. Do you know why? Maybe I should have let it dry longer, do you think it would help? Thanks
Hi Chloé . Sorry to hear it broke . I think maybe one solution would be to move it around while it's still wet on the bowl so it doesn't stick so hard to the bowl but it still maintains it's shape. Try not to apply too much pressure when adding the clay to the bowl. Hope this is somewhat helpful :D . Let me know if you succeed :D

Hi there! No air dry clay is not food safe and neither are the paints and varnish used in this video. this is only for storing small trinkets and jewellery
@@AncaPoraIllustration Thanks! That should work :) Do you have to store it in the fridge, or how long does it last without losing moisture at room temperature?
I suggest yes, if you are using acrylic paint i don't think it's necessary but if you will e using gouache then i suggest you coat the project in gesso or white acrylic. The varnish i use turns the clay into an off white color
The difference between the two is mainly the amount pf pigment. Watercolors tend to be more transparent and you can create pretty washes while gouache is more opaque. They are similar in their ingridients however and you can use gouache like watercolors bz thining them down with water. It just depends what look you are going for
I have a question. With air dry clay, do you *have* to use a sealant of some sort?? And is there anything you could use as a substitute for the sealant?
you don't have to use a sealant if you don't want to, it's just going to have a matte finish then, so it's more of an aesthetic choice. just don't use water on your finished products as it is not waterproof
No air dry clay is not food safe. You can make plates and bowls but only for decorative purposes. I recommend using regular clay and food safe glazes if you want to make anything food safe
Hello, I hope this message gets to you. I am interested in creating jewelry and I’m wondering if air-dry clay would be a good option? I do not have access to a kiln and I am looking for a similar alternative. Is there anything I use to make sure the air-dry clay jewelry is durable and waterproof?
Polymer is a good alternative if you don't have a kiln. Polymer clay can be baked in a regular kitchen oven. But i think air dry clay can be a good option for jewellery also. It really depends how big your jewellery pieces would be. But if you seal air dry clay it should stay waterproof.
As far as i have noticed once the clay is dry it's pretty rock solid. Also sealing it with the varnish helps i think. so i don't really think its bends
