Hi waizee, At one time I did the same but steaming the feathers back to their natural shape has saved me a lot of money and as well made tying the feathers on much easier... All the very best Davie
This video absolutely is a lifesaver. Just bought some veniard knotted pheasant tail and where they have been in pack they were all curved and no good at all. Just used this trick and now they are all perfect and straight again ! Thanks Davie !!
Hi tyler paquette, Steam will always return the feather to it's original shape though you can also use it to shape a feather as well..If you are going to use it on a cape make sure it's dry before you put it away in it's packaging..I'm glad you liked the video.. All the very best Davie
Hi Davie,I've had feather mite infestation, what is the best cause of action, some of the capes looked fine ,but I've thrown the majority out to be safe,I've quarantined some of my favourite ones in plastic tubs.
Hi Andy, Just give them a wash in warm water in a little washing up liquid which should work fine as I have done this many times over the years, it's nothing really to worry about.. Allow them to dry completely then put them in a clear sealed bag and just keep an eye on them and if they do come back just give them another wash though I've rarely seen them come back after the wash.. All the very best Davie
Hi wtrw001, You can straighten the hair with steam but I run a metal tooth comb through it as I go as this will help..I'm glad you found the video useful... All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail Oh Davie I wish you were keeping me right just the other day, when I attempted to straighten a peacock eye feather I wanted to use as a wing, using this method not only did I manage to bring the natural shape back but I also managed to lose all the fine herl that I desperately needed! whoops 🤭 the only thing I did learn was that here was another way to get a perfectly stripped peacock eye! I hope that gave you a laugh 😂 All the best to you and yours, Mike.
Davie, exactly what kind of duck feathers are you using in the beginning of this video, and where do you get them from? I purchased some Mallard Duck Flank Feathers in packages from Hareline, and it’s rubbish. I’m looking for for duck feathers with longer fibers like the ones you’re using in this video. Thankyou,& Aloha!🌴🎣🐟
Hi Kent W. I have attached a link to Bronze Mallard feathers I filmed in the video, the flank feathers can be very useful in a few patterns.. www.hareline.com/bm.html All the very best Davie... It's large Bronze Mallard feathers that you are looking for, www.hareline.com/bm.html
hi Davie hopes you're ok with this crazy stuff going just wounder how dye or bleach pheasant Tail White. I tried but didn't go white . Any help would great !!
Morning John, I don't bleach any of my materials as I did give it a go many years ago and all I ended up with was a mess so I buy the bleached pheasant tails from Veniards..I am well thank you and I hope you are well and safe too.. All the very best Davie..
HI Slick Roode, It's for holding a small fine toothed comb which I use to remove fine underfur when I don't need it and broken hairs from everything from deer hair through to arctic runner, it saves me a lot of time... All the very best Davie
These tips 'n' tricks videos are really helpful. I normally throw feathers like these away, now I won't have to. Thanks a bunch Davie!
