Whoever had the idea to have Emely and Charlie sing that turnabout segment of "Hell is Forever" deserves a fucking raise, my god that part hit me so hard.
It would make sense. Sam Haft, the composer, is The Living Tombstone. It would make sense why the creator of the Internets most legendary songs would make such impactful music.
I like to think Em's third eye on her chest when she's pissed at Serra is metaphorical to the fact that her eyes were now open to what Serra approved of heaven doing to hell.
[EMILY:] But she was right, Sera She showed us a soul can improve He saw the light, Sera Checked all the boxes that you said would Prove a person deserves a second chance Now we turn our backs, no second glance? [SERA:] It's not as simple as you think Not everything is spelled in ink [CHARLIE:] It's not fair, Sera [VAGGIE:] Careful, Charlie, keep a cool head [CHARLIE:] No! Don't you care, Sera? That just because someone is dead, it doesn't Mean they can't resolve to change their ways Turn the page, escape infernal blaze [SERA:] I'm sure you wish it could be so But there's a lot that you don't know [LUTE:] What are we even talkin' about? Some crack-whore who fucked up already? He blew his shot, like the cocks in his mouth This discussion is senseless and petty [LUTE & ADAM:] There's no question to be posed He's unholy, case closed Did you forget that Hell is forever? [ADAM:] A man only lives once, we'll see you in one month Gotta say, I can't wait to... [SERA:] Adam... [ADAM:] Come down and exterminate you [EMILY:] Wait! [ADAM:] Shit [EMILY:] What are you saying? Let me get this straight You go down there and kill those poor souls? [CHARLIE:] You didn't know? [ADAM:] Whoops [LUTE:] Guess the cat's out of the bag [ADAM:] What's the big deal? [EMILY:] Sera, tell me that you didn't know [SERA:] I thought, since I'm older It's my load to shoulder [EMILY:] No! [SERA:] You have to listen, it was such a hard decision I wanted to save you, the anguish it takes to Do what was required [EMILY:] To think that I admired you, well I don't need your condescension I'm not a child to protect Was talk of virtue just pretension? Was I too naïve to expect you To heed the morals you're purveying? [CHARLIE:] That's what the fuck I've been saying! [CHARLIE & EMILY (SERA):] If Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie (Emily!) If angels can do whatever, and remain in the sky The rules are shades of gray when you don't do as you say When you make the wretched suffer just to kill them again [CHARLIE:] I was told not to trust in angels [ADAM:] By her? [LUTE:] Ha! She should know [VAGGIE:] We should go [CHARLIE:] No! Don't you see? We've come so close Look at them fighting, they're at each other's throats [ADAM:] Don't you act all high and mighty Did you ever think your little girlfriend might be a liar? [VAGGIE:] Don't, Adam please! [ADAM:] What's the fuss? Why hide the fact that you're an angel just like
It hasn't even been 10 seconds into the song but that isolated violin at the start was quite profound. I like how every character has their own sound. Vaggie has the lone trombone while Lute's section has a tonne of brass behind it which shows of her indomitable will and aggression. Charlie is also given a brass section with higher pitched notes. She is kind and not fully consumed by her reality so despite being brass the lighter pitch says that she unlike other hellspawn. While Emily is given the high pitched violin which is a much higher degree of innocence since she doesn't know about the exterminations. I know the original song is designed this way but it makes a nice double-up to say that at the beginning, Emily's sections are long drawn out notes full of sadness. However when she asks Sara about whether she knew and then confronts her, the notes become more staccato which is a nice way of expressing her aggression despite remaining pure compared to Lute which is tainted aggression. As for the other seraphim Sara, the angelic choir behind her vocals really shows off her power. It's like all of heaven's hierarchy that she presides over is coming out at that moment. She believes she is pure in her motives and the music says that. But then you hit the part "To do what was required", which in the show is an interesting scene because the ball in the centre of the room casts flames in her eyes which shows even her morals are compromised. The music equivalent in this version of the song is that lone trumpet that gets introduced on that line, which for the most part is used on Charlie and Vaggie, whoa re in hell, or Lute/Adam who despite being angels have corrupt morals. So giving Sara that trumpet shows that while she is still a very heavenly being, even she is not free from these bad ideas. There is blood on her hands. What a marvellous composition!
This is an amazing and profound analysis of this song and the show in general! I agree, I think Sera has good intentions but, well, you know what they say about hell and good intentions... I don't think Sera is... evil per se, I think a part of her recognizes her mistake and feels guilty about it. Unfortunately she stubbornly persists instead of admitting she was wrong, thinking that this is the only way.
Orchestra and classical music will never die! It's so beautiful and pure, I love this genre of music like so many others. Music improves your mood and makes you remember that I am a living person
The theme of when God finally shows up to set this crap straight for good. He's already very subtly... and blatantly at the end... indicated He's _in agreement_ with Charlie. After all, the Blessed _normally_ appear at the Gate to be welcomed... but Pentious appeared _right in front of Sera instead._ As if Charlie's Grandad wanted to say: "You wanted proof this was possible, Sera? _Here it the frick is._ Guess it's time to reconsider your ruling, _isn't it?_ Also, Em, I'm proud of you for what you did, and kept on doing even up until a little bit ago, so I want you to see it too."
Hazbin's writer stated they will stay clear of God, sadly, as that is the largest landmine when it comes to religion. (Also they would actively have to make him fit in with the rest of the characters, and making God a rubber-duck addict won't go as well as it did with Lucifer) So while they hit at a higher power, watchers have to "have faith and believe it exist" in Hazbin's higher power the same way humans do the same normally. So no theme. ):
First of all how is any of that related to the instrumental cover of the song? Second, whatever secrets Sera is alluding to clearly don't suggest that there would be a benevolent overlord. If there is some sort of higher power in the Hazbin Hotel universe they would be in charge of the flawed system in the first place. Also, there was mention of "Elders of Heaven" being in charge, so most likely we aren't even talking about a singular entity out there.
0:56 I AM CLAWING AT THE FUCKING WALLS I'm actually crying with how good this is, my brain is going into overdrive, every singe part of this is PERFECT
Really good piece! I personaly would have prefered the part where Emily and Charlie sing together to be more _stacato_ (sorry don't remember where the double letter goes) but still it's just a little personal tweak this is still awsome

How many people have already said this in every _Hazbin hotel_ song? 😭
I think the songs were heavily worked on by Living tombstone? So maybe him :)
It was fucking fantastic. THAT’S how you do climax!
how can you not spell a name as easy and common as emily? are you indian or something?
I like how each character is represented by their own instruments

You'd love the musical Epic. That's part of the storytelling.
@@harlows.journey OMG I LOVE THAT MUSICAL
Fun Fact: Just like Demons, when angels get mad their more angelic form starts to show! In a seraphims case their extra eyes start to show!
I like to think Em's third eye on her chest when she's pissed at Serra is metaphorical to the fact that her eyes were now open to what Serra approved of heaven doing to hell.

What a marvellous composition!
They even included a little bit of seras angelic power music behind Emily's moment in the show where all her eyes are open for a brief second
Showing off Emily can match Sera in will and surpasses her in morals

i played the vocals of the song over this and i cried at the "if hell is forever then heaven is a lie" ITS SO HEAVENLY
I made an edit of this and the vocals on my channel so it's easier to listen to :)
2:26 is the Charlie and Emily duet.
Thank you, I got chills
that part actually sounds so godly, it's so amazing, amazing doesn't even begin to describe it
I absolutely love how you can hear the personality of each character in this scene
This is the reason I still somewhat like humanity
1:30 hits so hard as the turning point in the song it gets quiet before building up again and it’s just so good.
the "if hell is forever part" sent chills down my spine
It sounds crazier with the original vocals added (I have a vid on my channel of it)
This part at 0:49 is so amazing and hits hard af, I can't
It's like the beginning of a great and epic battle 🔥
I have a version in my channel where I put the vocals over this orchestral cover and I've been obsessed with Lute's part lol it sounds amazing
POV: You enter a boss fight in the court.
Emily: "YOU. *HEAVEN'T."*
This sounds like finale battle beetween hell and heaven.
