@@jacksarkisian I'm an avid London player but I actually don't understand the hate against the opening, its a pretty solid opening with a couple of traps but thats about it. and overall provides a comfortable position without needing to learn too much knowledge great for anyone who is like below 2000 I think but idk whats yours thoughts?
@@somethingshibe9526 i agree, lots of people that have no real idea about the complexities of certain openings just say its bad because everyone else does. its absolutely fine for anyone sub 2000, but the reality is the positions with d4 d5 in the London are unbearably boring above 2000 ELO for the white pieces, in a lot of cases black has a much more free-flowing gameplan.
@@somethingshibe9526i can tell you why I hate the London. The real reason is I use to face it everyday every other game. If you face the same opening every day for years you will start to hate it. I think the king's indian defense would be kind of intresting to study.I know there is much theory but you can make it simple and give us our plans in general
I must confess this is the best Catalan study I have ever seen on any youtube channel. My Goodness As a KID player, I really have to learn this opening
Since people might use this as their white repertoire, I would love to see a video about how to handle the dutch, my secret move I play all the time is 2.Nc3. Although I love playing the catalan, somehow the positions with g3 against the dutch are difficult for me to handle, I never really know what to do. I have a lichess study on the Nc3 line, so although it is a really niche variation it would also not be that much work for you. I think you need to chill a bit after studying the catalan xD. Thank you a lot for the video though, I hope you have a great day!
definitely give the Hopton Attack a look, it’s what i use against the Dutch atm and works really well for me 🔥🔥 and yes i definitely will be taking a short break from making theoretical videos, this one took me a whole week hahaha
@@VK-pd8zz I am not asking this specifically for me, just that covering mainstream openings is better than stuff like the jobava london and the Vienna, which is what others are recommending.
I love this video i ussually play an english but often people play e6 and i want to learn the catalan so it transposes this video helps alot. hoping this will help me make it to 2000 since i am close
This video is phenomenal and extremely useful. One thing I'd suggest for future videos, though, is to maybe slow down a bit or at least have the notation written down while reciting moves--throughout the video a lot of coordinates are mixed up, like g6 and g3, f6 and f3, c6 and c3, b7 and b2, even c6 and f3, Nc6 is called Nc2 at some point, d5 is called e4, Nbd7 is called Nbd2 or Nd2 in multiple spots...every chapter has several of these mistakes. We can see the moves on the board, so we still get the correct line, but it's a bit confusing when trying to listen and follow along with an analysis board or input the lines into chessbook. That's all! I'm looking forward to more videos like this!
@jacksarkisian LoL 😆 , it will actually take you 1 or 2 years to cover every line and variation to put it in chessbase with like 500+ variations and so large syatems in the najdorf such a Be3 and Bg5
@@jacksarkisian In the lines where you can get your main setup with like e5, Be7, Nbd7, b5 etc. in, its honestly not that hard. All the pieces go to natural squares. Its all the sidelines that are the problem in my opinion, theres just so many of them
g3 with a knight on c3 is actually fine, you just need to be a bit more careful with your c pawn. it’s important to get Ne5 in early as well before black plays Nbd7. blacks queenside pawns get really tangled if they try to hang on with b5 - watched a lot of Magnus games where he punished exactly this.

French would be super easy for me to learn since I played the Caro for almost 3 years, super similar pawn structures which helps a lot with memorisation
@@jacksarkisian If you do the French, you can break it into 3 lines at first; Advance, Exchange, and I’d recommend the Fort Knox French against either knight move 3.nc3 or 3.nd2.
