You’re a very, very valuable young man (maybe!)! Great presentation, very well explained, well done! Many thanks!
Ha ha, thanks!
Great video!! My question ... I have the Robertshaw 7000mvrlc 710-502. This unit has not been used for over ten years.....I blow out the pilot and it takes about 60-65 seconds for the valve to shut off...I installed a new pilot assembly and thermopile and I'm still having the same results??? bad valve? any help would be appreciated.
Can you do another video to show what's the wiring diagram inside of the gas valve? It is confusing just show TP TH and will the red and white wiring matters on which terminal? Thanks
It was like staring into the sun. Lol. Great video.
Ha ha, just the camera light setting, thanks Dean Martin1966!
No lint left on that sleeve!! Dude, great videos!! Thanks for posting!!!
Thanks a lot Watcherjohnny!
@@acservicetechchannel bought a new Robertshaw 710-502 for a wall heater. This video saved me $250 in labor. Thanks!
Hello, I have a 60 year old pioneer furnace with a white rodgers valve 857RA68E. I tried to replace it with a resideo VR8300A4516 valve and it did not work. Can you recommend a substitute valve? Thanks.
Why is my flame super orange ?
The gas company shut off the heater and said it’s not right, it’s a new Robert shaw gas control valve
I'm curious why my thermo-pile wire is opposite my red wires in the middle. Could there be problem
I was wondering the same thing.
Once again you provide a great learning and demonstration video. Keep up the good work. Cheers!:)
Thanks a lot Paul HVAC!
When I see a non-UL approved device in the thumbnail I immediately smash the like button and say to myself "this is going to be good!" Thanks Craig!
Welding goggles required at 2:37
ha ha, thanks Tomon8tor!
Craig, the whole video I was wondering “does he have gas hooked up to that controller? YES!!” Nice video!
Ha ha, thanks Jack!
Mine has the Robert Shaw LP Propane Gas Valve 7000MVRB 5LCLP…my pilot flame is very strong but when I turn the thermostat on the pilot goes low and burner lights with a very week flame and pilot is weak as well… then a few minutes later the burner goes out. Pilot stays lite but weak…
Thanks for the video. What if the OFF/PILOT/ON valve won't turn at all (even when you push it in and then turn)? Usually a lubricant problem or something actually broke?
Incredibly clear and helpful video, Craig. Thanks for taking the time to create it. If by chance you receive this and have the bandwidth to respond, could you please tell me whether it matters which thermopile wire (red or white) gets connected to the TP or TH-TP slot. I see your videos show white to TP and red to TH-TP but elsewhere online I have seen these reversed. Is there a correct pairing? Many thanks!
I have a SIT 820 mV valve that works, but wont turn off even with thermostat wires disconnected. Are the wires in the back shorting it out so it thinks its calling for heat? Have to turn gas off to get it to stop. Turns off if i disconnect the thermopile wires and pilot stays on. Help!
My gas fireplace has a robert shaw gas control valve similar to this one. The pilot wouldnt stay on once I stopped pushing the knob down. I measured the mV coming from the thermopile and got around 400 mV. Then I bought a White Rodgers 600 - 750 mV 36" thermopile (G01A-132) and replaced it. It can go as high as 500 mV. But same issue. Pilot wouldn't stay on. I attached an old 1.5 volt battery in series with the thermopile and got 1. 4 V reading (without the pilot on). Then I on the pilot and it remained lit without even waiting for 10 seconds (once knob is not depressed). It works. The fireplace now works. However it isnt safe and I wouldnt use it this way. Is the issue with the thermopile being around 500 mV? Should I get something that should generate 700 - 750 mV? Second question, does it matter whether the red line of the thermopile gets connected to TH/TP and the white goes to TP because my original configuration (which works before) was the red went to TP and the white went to TH/TP. Thanks for your help.
Did you ever figure this out? I seem to have the exact same issue.
Don't burn your place down! 🤣
I have a fire extinguisher, water and multiple manual gas valves down the line for safety, thanks Channel Cat Chaser!
The flame wasn't any bigger than in the other videos, it was just the light setting I had the camera on, thanks
@@acservicetechchannel lol looked intense
Why do I have to jump the thermostat to get the main valve to open, once it opens it stays with out jump wire
looking for instructions to adjust in out screws on new valve installation
I smell burn't hair...LOl Great video"
xlnt. will my pilot lit light if i don't have the thermostat set to heat and on or auto. thanks
This video helped me as I have a similar gas valve on my monnessen gas fire place and want to control it with a thermostat instead of a thermostat remote as it only checked every 15 minutes and it can get pretty hot within that 15 minutes lol but anyways thanks for showing the diagram as now I can heat my house more efficiently and comfortably
Hi,what is the difference between a "Vent Free" valve and a non vent free
valve. Can a valve for a fireplace like the one here with just a
thermocouple be used instead of of using a valve with a thermocouple and
a pilot/pile generator ? Thank you
Really good explanations. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So I have this valve in a Superior fireplace. Checked thermopile voltage and it was around 210, so made minor increase to pilot flame, which brought it up to 327. With wall switch turned on (closes the main valve circuit, there is no thermostat) the main valve still never turns on. Bad solenoid/valve and replace the valve altogether? I even tried directly jumpering out the switch but still no go.
is this valve for high Pressure gas ?
My gas valve wont light the burner on my gas fireplace. I have about 550 millivolts when the pilot is lit. How many millivolts should I have when the wall switch is turned on?
Hi, today I installed a similar set up like this. But is it normal for the pilot hood to glow red hot while the pilot flame is on? Thanks for help.
"DONT TRY THIS AT HOME" you will put your eye out. But thanks for this
Company wanted $935 to change out failed gas valve in small natural gas fireplace after charging $160 to diagnose the problem. Going to do it myself with $139 new valve from Amazon. Thanks for the videos you make.
It has to have 750 mv, no less or it doesn’t work?
No it will usually read 750 when it is open circuit, around 500-650 when powering the pilot and maybe 300-400 when powering the main burner. It would really depend on the heat of the flame and the condition of the thermopile though, thanks
Worked on my first wall heater yesterday. Replaced the gas valve as it wouldn't open even though it was getting correct voltage. Also replaced thermopile as maintenance. Great video!
Thanks Kenneth!
Have an erratic gas valve? works for a week; then nothing ? jump th/tp to th. works fine.last week i tapped with screw driver. fired right up! bad valve? new Tstat& T pile ....Thanks!
Can you test the valve with just a jumper wire instead of a thermostat?
That was cool video
Thanks ejohnfall!
Do you have a better angle of how that is wired? Hard to see
Hello there, i have a similar application, i was wonder if i can use the same valve but for using a thermostat that reads temperature on hot plastic material that heats up to 425 degrees, thank you
Several people seem to have the same problem I have. Brand new Empire Dv heater. Thermostat is closed, but BRAND NEW gas valve needs to be "tapped" with a hammer to work. Any ideas?
I have a similar problem (Empire DV-35) but with the main burner not coming on with thermostat in heat ON. Jumpering whit and red contacts on thermostat light the main burner.
Is that the Robert Shaw 710-502?
Thank you for all the info you provide ,
Thanks Sev Info!
Would a voltage drop during a call for heat cause pilot to go out?
Good vid Craig ... Much appreciated ...
Thanks Eddy!
Thanks man; God bless
You're welcome!
Make sure all the wires are very clean. I scrape the wire ends with a knife to get the best readings.
Absolutely, thanks Donald!
“Whatcha doing? Nothing....”
Ha ha, yeah just doing some tests!
Thanks for this video
Glad to help!
Another great video!!
Glad you like them!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you please explain what the larger Allen key plugs are on the sides of the valve?
Those are the inlet and outlet pressure ports for troubleshooting or reading the pressure for a conversion from natural gas to propane, Thanks Ryan!
@@acservicetechchannel so they are another pressure port? You're talking about the big 3/8 or 1/2" ports on the bottom? They're way bigger than normal pressure taps for manometers... Just making sure we're talking about the same thing. I figured they had something to do with servicing internals or something
Oh no those are for different configurations on how the gas valve is hooked up to the gas piping sine this is a universal replacement gas valve, thanks
@@acservicetechchannel thanks ACS Tech!!
I am having an intermittent problem with a millivolt system turning the main burners on. I'm not sure if its the thermopile, or the tstat/wiring. (The pilot flame looks good to me, nice blue flame engulfing the thermopile). I've tried a few thermopiles that get up to 750Mv with propane flame on them, and get around 500 - 600 mv while in the circuit with only the pilot valve open. But, the main burners work for a few days, or weeks even, but then will not open the main gas valve. (pilot always stays lit though).
I was wondering if I have too much resistance, and how to ohm the tsat alone, and the tsat and the wiring to the gas valve? (I have 16 gauge wiring now, and about 25 feet from tstat to furnace). Can I leave the batteries in the tsat, and set it to call for heat, and take the wires off the gas valve - to ohm it? (I don't want to break my meter ohming a circuit with voltage in it). What resistance would be acceptable, and what would be too high?
BTW, do thermopiles get 'weak', or just fail to even get to a good voltage, after they get old? I mean, would they function for a few days and then lose the ability to generate the correct voltage, or simply never get to the right voltage ever - when they get too old?
Any other ideas to find the problem?
see above. Having the same problem!!!! Have new gas valve to my right hand now. Tried most everything you've done....twice! hate to change valve for the same situation. Waiting on answer.
@@stanleykwiecinski811 my furnace has been running for 6 days now with another older thermopile (TP) . But I ordered a new Honeywell TP, and bought a new one from ACE hardware to have in case older TP fails again. My valve is just a few years old, so I guess the problem is not the valve. I guess. Let me know if you find a good testing procedure. I'll do likewise. Have you done millivolt readings on gas valves terminals?
@@m.n.3490 I had a PAL who was gonna help me change my gas valve. no show! That night i tested my gas valve; other site said reading should be 1.5-1.7 my reading was 2.0.....even the new valve read 2.0 I own a cheap meter. it's been working. my reading on the Tpile was 300+ mv not 325 minimum. but?....I have 3/4? Tpiles all test good! change them and heater works......for a week-month? ball buster! $108+ just to ring my bell! figure 2-3 hrs min. Could buy a new heater for that price! I just keep a jumper cable hooked up just in case. paranoia is not fun.
Tapped my valve. coming out of a COLD drunk friday night ;and it fired up? magnets in valve sticking? not enough MV? weak wiring connections?......spin the wheel!
@@stanleykwiecinski811 I measured my pile again. It is putting out around 650mv at tp-th/tp, and at th-th/tp with main gas valve closed. When main gas valve is open the readings are 440 and 260. That 260 on th-th/tp with valve open seems low, but valve is working! For now.
Not sure what you meant with other measures? 1.5-1.7?
Is your tpile new?
What is 3/4?
Did you test tpiles off the furnace? I noticed mine tested off furnace using propane show a lot higher 0mv than when in circuit(on the gas valve and heated by the pilot).
Hi, we have a gas fireplace ( a Regency ). It seems to work fine on med or high setting but when turned to the lowest on setting it will let only a small amount of gas to the burners and does not light and i can smell a bit of raw gas. is there some sort of adjustment on the valve? Thanks
good stuff, thank you ...
Thanks Pei broker!
Gracias por la explicacion!
Glad to help!
@@acservicetechchannel I have a situation, today I changed a Robertshaw milivolt valve and didn't turn on, at the beginning not even de pilot, later the pilot turn on but I couldn't turn on the burners, several times when I set the thermostat on, the pilot turned off. Any ideas?
