    It's hard to make a Breakout clone stand out considering the sheer number of such games out there. Cybersphere stands out on a technical level for using OPL3 synthesized sound and music at a time when everything was going digitized, as well as for being surprisingly difficult by design, as opposed to being difficult because of poor controls, physics, or balls moving at mach 7.
    ------------------------------------------
    Additional Information and Corrections:
    When I first made this video it was pretty hard to find full downloads of this game, but it's since gotten much easier. The place I recommend is from the RGB Classic Games website: www.classicdosg...
    You can also download the sequel, Cybersphere Plus, at the same website as above, which is basically just more of the same, though I've noted that powerups drop more frequently in the Plus version than in the original.
    One thing I missed talking about is that there are walls you can hit with the ball or shoot with the Fire powerup that are worth points and can be hit an unlimited number of times. You can really rack up the points if you take advantage of these!
    The "Fatal Ball" warning flashes whenever you lose a ball and only one is left on the screen, giving you a moment to prepare to save it just in case.
    Actually, level 5 LOOKS harder than level 4 in the first sector, but I consider level 4 harder.

    Man this game is polished. You'd be forgiven for thinking this was an Arcade game. :D

    Second game of the series (so far ofc) that I'd never heard of before! I think it should really be called an Arkanoid clone rather than Breakout one though - I mean we don't call Dark Forces a Wolf 3D clone :)

    This is a good game; You said other Breakout clones don't do the "hitting it at different parts of the paddle controls the ball's angle" thing but technically DX-Ball 2 (Windows) does that...but I've only really played DX-Ball 2 before this game.
    Cybersphere has two improvements (other than the risky gems, angled walls, and bonus stages):
    When holding a ball, it moves left and right, allowing you to choose your angle; DX-Ball 2 keeps the ball stuck whereever it landed on the paddle.
    Also, when holding a ball and you release, the ball just flies in whatever direction it would if it landed on the paddle there; In DX-Ball 2, if you had the gun and holding powerups, it would shoot *every time* you let go of the ball, which would destroy the bricks using the shots, giving you less points;
    I don't know why LDA thought that wa a good idea when this game doesn't fire its guns every time, giving more control if you want the ball to hit things before finishing off the level with the shots.

    I remember Breakout, such a fun game - though this looks like a great update to the original setup.

    The zip file is only about 70k!
    Kinda pissed I seem to have given away my Sound Blaster Pro2s when I moved but I still have a couple SB16s.

    I never head of this till I saw this video and since it's free I decided to give it a try. It runs well on Dosemu -a Linux-exclusive does emulator.

      That's funny cos I couldn't get DOSemu run anythng at all, what's more, having never been touched since 2007 it still only supports OSS and none of the OSS compatibility options under Ubuntu 14.04: osspd, oss-alsa, osscompat seem to work with it, and funnily though this game is an excelllent example of OPL music, something DOSemu doesn't emulate.
