No matter how serious DBZ gets never forget that Piccolo origin story starts with his dad the Demon king being sealed deep in the ocean inside a electric rice cooker … how silly 😂
Dragon Ball started out super-d-dooper silly it is actually a steady gradient but only upon revist Goku out there slapping people on the mons taking off Bulma's underbritches innocently trying to relocate her testicles for her for her to dumbfoundingly from his astonishing ignorance her to be completely unconcerned with their absence. An electric rice cooker that has spent centuries in the ocean. How has technology exactly advanced in Dragon Ball? But then again, they've had to rebuild lots and lots of times...
@@newnamek96 100%, this is where Z really starts for me. The tone, brutality, and Stakes sky rocketed. also the whole alien vs alien thing too was the whole theme of the first two arcs of Z.
this arc is almost like a forecast to show exactly where dragon ball will go in the future. its the first time we see a a world wide threat and the first time we see goku overcome a villian who is beyond the capability of humans
In hindsight Gorky leaving his Power Pole due to exhaustion was a nice subtle hint/foreshadow towards Goku growing physically soon too and not needing it anymore
The Demon king Piccolo arc of Dragonball was so epic. It’s my favorite along with the red ribbon army arc and 23rd martial arts tournament. I feel at this point in the story, Dragonball was slowly shifting to Z territory
I guess it depends on how you look at it. The last one got a good amount of views, just not as much as other videos. More people gravitate toward Dragon Ball Z & Super. I definitely won't stop with Dragon Ball though!
My Favorite Arc of Dragon Ball as a whole ever, the entire cast is put through the grinder, King Piccolo is a beyond iconic villain he moves the plot through sheer chaos, to this very day the moment he kills Shenron still hits !
This arc is insane dude. Peak, purely original Akira Toriyama here. In fact, you can now see elements of this same arc is many future arcs, including Cell, Moro and Granolah arcs. I hope present piccolo, now with kami and nail, can do the same things the original king piccolo did. It'd be unreal, but would prompt a goku vs piccolo rematch
I wouldn't necessarily include the Moro arc for comparison. There's certainly similarities, but that arc took / copied from many different arcs within the series. I also don't see any similarities with the Granola arc. If anything, I'd say the King Piccolo arc mainly influenced the following next three arcs - Piccolo Jr., the Saiyan arc and Freeza arc. It also heavily influenced the Garlic Jr. film.
No way Tien really was gonna throw his life away and fight without the evil containment wave in the manga😭 the anime made him seem smarter with the jar still being in tact
@@unknownsword9042 It is noble but at the same time it's heavily seen in anime that there are times when it is foolish just to throw your life away. Yamcha did try to stop him and it was noble at first but to try straight up brawl the same guy who in his old form beat his equal pretty handily is not the best idea.
Despite being the inspiration for other battle shounen protagonists, I always found it interesting how Goku has little to no qualms about killing, unlike later shounen protags (Except maybe Gon.)
Yajirobe is shown having the one-star ball on a cord round his neck with that cord going through the ball itself. Wonder how he managed that trick? Thought those things were almost indestructible, but he's managed to drill a hole through one?

I'm on episode 149 of OGDB. It was boring at first, but its awesome. Which we could see more of the cool stuff from og in dbs (like that's gonna happen). Overall, I dont regret watching it
Epic video presentation. You gotta make those panels. I’ve read a lots of translations but I’ve missed the ones with the F bombs from piccolo. Definitely watching the rest of your vids man
Those super defence depends on the inner energy. Everytime u are hurt....the inner energy fade away. The more hurt..the more energy lost. If any fighter that is hit with an attack he couldnt take...and then he smash his body to a rock...the rock can hurt him due to the injury from the first attack. This concept is heavilly used in chinese fantasy martial art novels and movies. I'm pretty sure db/dbz are heavilly influenced by it.
Now that i think about it....Piccolo Daimao's wish for "eternal" youth turned out to be only cosmetic, since his lifespan was still linked to his older-bodied good counterpart, Kami, lol.
Good to see Goku matured over the years indeed such as the cell arc when he let his son run the fade… but back when goku was a jitt HE WAS PULLIN UP ⬆️
The fact that *King Piccolo* doesn't even recognize the *power pole* brings into question morality of *Kami* separating and discarding his "evil side".
I feel like this arc is so underrated. There are so many badass moments and great fights that people dont give credit to. I recently rewatched it and it was just as thrilling as the first time i saw it as a kid. Goku vs King Piccolo is up there with Goku vs Frieza and Gohan vs cell if you ask me. 🙌🙌
It's only underrated if you watched this arc after watching DBZ first. For those that watched the original DB series prior, the King Piccolo arc was a complete pace of change into uncharted territory from the previous DB arcs that focused more on adventures and martial arts.
One of my favorite part was from this arc in the anime was when Tien apologizes to the fighter he crippled in the past. Seems like it was a filler though, and was not part of the manga.
