    Another great video and review. Any chance we could get a video explaining what it means and show what it is to be an "expert", "intermediate", and "beginner" riders. I see almost every piece of gear has this rating but what does that even mean? Is it base on terrain or speed or tricks, I guess a combo would make the most sense. If you were going with t rice snowboarding would you say expert? VS if your family, friends etc asks

      You don’t need this video 😂everyone knows where they are at. If you can’t confidently ride any terrain at a decent mountain your not an expert, beginner Is anyone who can’t carve, intermediate is everyone else. Any pro is in the .01% of riders and at a lvl non of us will ever reach. The rates mean nothing for snowboards. Just a meter of money your willing to spend

      Be honest with your ability, a board that is above your ability is going to ride you instead of you riding it, and it will not be a positive experience

      Hello mate. I'm a BASI snowboard instructor. My best advice would be to try boards to get a feel for them. The ''expert'' tag or whatever might mean that it's trad camber, which is harder for beginners. It makes it a lot more aggressive and easier to catch an edge. Expert tag might also mean its really stiff which advanced riders that generate more force might benefit more from.
      If you just casually spends a few weeks a year snowboarding and have the money. Try em! see what you like. Just know expert rating usually just means its stiffer/more aggressive
      EDIT: I myself prefer around a 5-6 stiffness and a camrock board which is a fusion of both (mainly camber though). Its the ''fun'' ratings for me at least. Makes it so i can jib/butter around easily while still being pretty stable at high speeds

    TJ, Excellent footage!
    After watching your and other vids out there I am right on the fence between Mercury and Super DOA. I am an experienced rider but coming back after a few years of hiatus - life happens :). All the new tech is overwhelming!
    1) How chatty is Super DOA? The board looked very stable and "quiet" on groomers and landings in your vid. Dare I take it to the back bowls?
    2) Merc sounds like the better board for the back bowls (where I spend most of the day) where things could get fast.. Though the fun for me is the canyons, natural features, weaving through moguls, switching it up while jumping... mach 10 carving does not really interest me that much, but precision and control are important.
    What's everyone's take on the two boards for the kind of riding I really want to focus on this season?

    TJ, I know the Evil Twin didn't make this list but I've been eyeing it up. It's been a few years of not riding (kids!), but want to get back into it. Live on the east (Ice) coast and just wanted to know if the Evil Twin (+) is worth it for our sub par conditions? I ride (an old Solamon Twin 151) all over the mountain and love the park and pipe if there is one. Would the Arbor Westmark be a better choice for the icy conditions since it has the side bites? Thanks in advance for the help.

      @efist694 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      im an east coast rider in PA. the evil twin rips . it's a full camber board and i personally think that the 3BT doesn't make it "worse" on ice , you just have to learn how to ride it in bad conditions . i personally hate the serrated contact point technology as it feels like dragging an ice pic behind you and ruins the sensation of snowboarding but some people like it. The Evil Twin is a perfectly fine east coast board .

      I picked up both Nexus and Aero boards for this season. Ran both a few days in stiff and icy conditions in PA.
      Agree with other comment here that Nexus gets a bit squirrelly at higher speeds, especially on firm ground. Aero was noticably more stable in those conditions. I do like the Nexus so far, but have been riding the Aero more just due to the conditions and my riding style. Nexus would definitely be excellent in powder and it's a got a great flex and overall stability. Liking the both so far.

I ride an evil twin most of the time but take out the nexus whenever there's fresh snow and it has great float and seems to be super nimble in trees, turns effortlessly. I have a Bataleon Whatever, 154cm. I'm 5'8", 165lbs, shoe size 43 Euro or 8.5 US. I'm on my 3rd season of snowboarding, but skateboarded for about 15 years and surfed for 20 years. I have 4 snowboards. This board is awesome for me. It's like a skateboard. I don't have to think about turning it because it turns when I want it to, unlike other boards I have to guide around the turns. And it will not catch an edge with the 3-D profile. I have a Bataleon Party Wave that I was catching edges on a lot when I started out. I think that board needs to be moving faster because it's so wide, then it won't catch. But this one is so light and responsive. It never catches edge. It's a blast to ride. I do agree that it seems to have some limits, like when I want to go super fast and have it track a straight line. It kind of dances a little bit in comparison to my LibTech Orca. And the base doesn't seem as fast as my Orca or my Jones Mountain Twin. But it's so much fun. Last season after I got it, I never rode any other boards unless there was a lot of powder, like a foot or more. Anyone who is a beginner through intermediate should consider this board. Bateleon is a great company.

    Thanks for these reviews and recommendation videos, they're great.
    I'm an intermediate rider in Europe who likes the idea of 3BT.
    I am considering the Whatever, but I won't be riding much park, generally am riding with skiers. So am wondering if I would be better off with the Goliath for more stability at speed and a longer term board.
    Would the Goliath be too much board for an intermediate rider in your opinion? And if I go with the Whatever is it capable for charging on piste?

      If you ride not that much park and are not interested in butters, then consider the Goliath bc of the stiffer flex. The whatever definitely has some limitations in terms of charging and carving. You can also consider the whatever beyond medals. It’s basically the whatever with a stiffer flex so it’s better for All Mountain riding (also has a really nice design)

    so I just bought an arbor Westmark rocker. it was recommended to me by a shop based off what I am looking for. I currently ride a yes the Y directional board which is pretty stiff. I like it for carving but I am looking to get into buttering tricks and riding switch. so I wanted a true twin that could still ride the whole mountain. My main concern is I got the rocker which sounds good for buttering but I feel I might struggle with carving. I board in the east so powder isn't really I thing here sadly. I have never ridden a rocker board so I guess I will see how it goes. I can still return it and I was wondering if you had any suggestions before I take it out. IM a smaller rider about 5'6 140lbs. Im really looking for a board that I can butter with but still have fun on the mountain. I don't do much park but I may give it a try. The capita DOA seems like a good fit for me but I'm wondering if it will be to stiff for learning buttering Thanks for the dope videos and I would really appreciate your thoughts.

      I have a good amount of time on this board this season. It's surprising good for being a rocker. But you definitely find its limitation on steep slopes when its a bit icy. It's been a blast for learning buttering and flat ground tricks since it's less catchy. for jumps it's good but you don't get that soft landing like a board with camber. I have taken it to the park a few times but truthly the park isn't that fun for me. It's defiantly a playful board that can carve okay for being a rocker. That being said if your looking for a true all mountain board I think their are better options. My next board will be a hybrid camber/rocker. Now if you're more of a park rider then I think this board would be a better fit. It's also a nice board to learn switch on.@@Velvety353

    The one I bought this year didn't make your list. It's brand new though so maybe you didn't get a chance to test. I bought the YES std Uninc and it rips. Not had it out on a deep day yet so I'll be interested to see how it gets on being camber. I like it so far though.

      The Standard looks dope, I've never tried that one but I have enjoyed the YES boards that I have ridden over the years. They make good boards.

      @@BoardArchive they certainly build solid boards. I think this is a good compromise for a "do everything board". A deep day will be the test. It's a volume shifted twin so the extra board will help with float how well the camber will do alongside that will also be key. Midbite helps with edgehold and a slightly narrower waist make it more nimble with the added heft in the nose and tail. Try one out if you get the chance. I'm sure you'd like it too.

    Burton Blossom is the best park snowboard on the Planet! but certainly not an all-mountain board.

    • @BoardArchive
      @BoardArchive  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not

    • @cruiseavid
      @cruiseavid ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoardArchive First, Burton rates each board in 3 categories on its website. (Park - All Mountain - Powder) Secondly, the Blossom is a parkboard that does not have the property to score points in the category Freeride, carving etc. Because the shape is simply designed for park and tricks. A typical freeride board can't be the best parking board either. For example, a Burton Custom has been an all-mountain board for years, but not a super half-pipe or killer freeride powder board.

    What skill level would you say the arbor westmark is best for?

    • @awiegwa
      @awiegwa ปีที่แล้ว

      I own the camber and I would put a beginner on it (I am not a beginner so its good for when you advance too). But get it shorter than you think because the running edge is long for its size, my 153 has an edge like a normal 158. Very poppy, great for jumps and carves and does not catch edges when you get lazy. Great boards!
