Royce wasn’t “boring” it is just that Em snapped on this with out-there excitement, crazy cadences, and shock value bars all rolled into one!
Royce easily held his own and some say he won this by a hair etc.
It is a great lyrical track tho, and ONLY Black Thought could have “possibly” beat Royce’s verse on this track vs Eminem.
Royce doesn’t compete with lesser Emcees like mumble rappers, pop rap artists, or even popular/famous rappers that have sone bars. He is second to none. (none only meaning Em overall). 😎

Royce comes with the bars that teach, usually mentoring with life lessons and philosophy from what he's been through, and basically follows it up with what will happen if you dont follow by his example. Eminem comes with the bars that destroy, he's not giving any room for error to anyone, he's in full attack mode and fed up with the scene.

As a kid from the gutter-Rock Bottom is the realest shit he’s ever written. I’ve been in that EXACT place, and the struggle made me someone I wasn’t proud of, simply to survive. The shit is an anthem, and now that I’ve made a life for myself, I can appreciate how much art like that helped weather the bullshit. Just to know you’re not the only one going through it can be a game changer for some people.

I’m glad Em is still around still dropping at a high level. Rap needs to get back to its lyrical roots. It’s what made it different, special. I see Em as the bridge from classic old school rap to the modern age. It’s amazing that he can keep adjusting. Nice review, keep going.

The Bad Meets Evil Album is right up there for me, for best rap duo albums, right next to Black Starr and Outkast.

The rapper who was on the freestyle is Mr Porter from D12, who are EMs original group. Royce was part of Slaughterhouse with King Crooked, Joe Budden & Joel Ortiz. Royce and Em are long time friends and formed a duo with Eminem called Bad Meets Evil. You need to listen to Fastlane if you want fun bars. Big fan from the UK love the videos 👍

I don't know, let's go back over Em's history where he has basically not only carried every track he has done with someone else, but most of the time he washes them completely out. There are only a FEW tracks here and there where Em doesn't "flat out wash the other guy" on the track. And I admit, this isn't Royce at his "best", but Royce CAN hang in there with EM on a better consistent rate than other artists. Maybe not 100% all the way, but Royce can clear at least 90% of the track with Em and be fine.
Literally every artist that has done a track with Em has come out and admitted in one interview or another that you have to "Bring your A game". Because if you don't, Em will destroy you on the track and make you look like a fool. Even greats like Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and others have admitted to needing to go back and RE-WRITE their verse after hearing what Em did on the track. THAT right there should tell you just how deadly Em really is on the mic when he gets on the track.... other greats go back and REWORK their verses JUST to avoid being embarrassed by what they tried to do before Em got hold of the beat.

Royce and Marshall have been friends since the beginning! The grew up together and respect each other’s abilities and talents. Marshall helped Royce get help for his alcoholism and Royce helped Marshall go to rehab for his pain pill addition. Now they’re both sober and have been for years now.
