This show was made and aired before my time but its one of the greatest shows to watch. Jackie Gleason and the cast put on a great comedic show, enjoy every minute of it.

How did you do it Jackie ? Almost 70 years, seen it a million times , still funny as ever , the God's of Comedy smiled on you Jackie. Virtuosos of Comedy. You too Art. Ralph's moves when Monahan catches him the last time , genius !
@Timothy Ross, not just that but check this out. There was the classic 39,but before that honeymooners was a sketch on,the Jackie Gleason show! And it was such a hit,it took up half the show! So theres more episodes! Jackie Gleason also collaborated with Warner bros,to make 3 honeymousers cartoons! Then later on after the honeymooners went off the air, the Jackie Gleason show came back! And the honeymooners were on there, well Into the 70s! Then they released 3 one hour specials and in the late 70s,we got the colored episodes of the honeymooners! Then in 1985 they released the lost episodes! So there is a ton of great honeymooners footage out there! You can find a lot of it online!
This was the last episode of the "Classic 39" Honeymooners episodes. These 39 shows were performed live and recorded on Kinescope in almost exactly ONE calendar year. From 10/1/1955 to 9/22/1956. This was the greatest, most concentrated series of TV comedies ever produced BY FAR. Yeah, I love Seinfeld too, but I'll bet if you asked Jerry, he'd say this was the greatest. He grew up watching them, just like I did.
@@kathyflorcruz552 Actually, Seinfeld was performed in front of a live audience, although it wasn't like a play where the performers continue through the whole show. They would stop and do re-takes when mistakes were made. Later on, they had segments that were pre-recorded - like outdoor scenes - that were played on a screen for the audience to see during the live parts. Laugh tracks were added for those as there was no audience when it was filmed. There were some laugh track added to the live performance where appropriate as well. Comedy is best performed with an audience. The laughter give the performers a way to figure out the timing of the material.
Just Ralph glancing down at the check and wincing in shock, is an absolute moment of comic genius requiring no dialogue. Gleason was an unparalleled master of body language and sight gags. So many of the show’s loudest and longest laughs were from facial expressions and other visual movements.
Gleason could read a 75 page script and on hour later he had every word to memory. The man had total recall for god's sake. Whatcha gifted gifted artisan. .

*19:37* I noticed Mr. Davis standing up when Alice got up to dance with Ralph. If I'm not mistaken, when a man did something like that, it was considered a respectful gesture to a woman, as was his tipping his hat or touching the brim. My grandfather would do that with his hat. Before he died, he mentioned that a man's "[tipping the hat or touching its brim]wasn't only learned as a show of respect; it was ingrained in him." Even before the CV situation began, it seems like respect is non-existent.

Mann to this day I swear Jackie Gleason was one of the funniest, most talented actor of his era. I saw this as a kid in syndication in the 80's and it's still one of my favorite shows of all time. Got every single episode on bluray even the lost episodes. It goes to show that a great show can stand the test of time no matter when it was made.
40 bucks for a meal a is a meal is fantastic in today's standard. I checked it out, and $40 back then is equivalent to about $350 today. So ya, that was a pricey supper. 😆😆
@@Maverickman67 According to calculations, Ralph's $60 a week would be about $650 to $700 a week today. No wonder that restaurant was for the elite LOL
@19:35, and again at @21:11 -- Notice how character "Bill Davidson" (Assistant Plumber) gets up, as a courtesy to Alice leaving and then returning to her seat. That was a time when gentlemanly manners were the custom and considered to be good taste (and still should be, except for radical feminists that would take the gesture as an insult, because they are wired wrong). Ralph did not do the same for Bill's wife, because Gleason's "Ralph" character, although a caring person, lacks such social graces.
Jackie Gleason makes one of his infrequent mistakes at 16:39. In speaking with Norton, he tells Norton that Davis called"Aud" or "Audrey", instead of "Alice". He then says "she called her up today". Not worth a retake.
Nah, one of the things I always liked about this show is that it reflects how people really talk in life. Stumbles, mispronounciations and such add to the reality. I never noticed the "Audrey" flub til now, maybe that's why they left it in, it's not very clear.
good eye/ear, bro…I caught those, too hahaha😆 Did you notice the waiter…was one of the bad guys in the Funny Money episode (forget his name…Ziggy, I think???)!😂
Davis's wife said "It was certainly nice of Ralph to invite us here tonight." But earlier at 19:03, Alice already says out loud and to Davis "I so glad YOU asked us out tonight." Davis's wife must not have been paying attention.
Art Carney served in the U.S. Army during WW2. He was wounded during the Normandy invasion. He went on to a long career in showbiz. He guest starred in the original Batman as a villain and appeared in the Star Wars holiday special.

40 bucks for a meal a is a meal is fantastic in today's standard. I checked it out, and $40 back then is equivalent to about $350 today. So ya, that was a pricey supper. 😆😆
Ralph made either $60 or $65 a week as a bus driver. So almost one week's pay down the drain.
@@Cissy2cute
ya that's crazy
@@Maverickman67 According to calculations, Ralph's $60 a week would be about $650 to $700 a week today. No wonder that restaurant was for the elite LOL
At 16:40 Ralph called Alice (Audrey) her real name!
It seems to have been bleeped out.
I never caught that in all the times I watched it!
That's a good as it gets!! Beautifull.🇩🇰🇺🇸🦅🗽😍
Why can't comedy be this good now days.
Politics.
Why can't they make humor like this again? Average people, living simple lives with big dreams.
That’s “Bill Davis”,not “Bill Davidson”.
@@johnrobinsoniii4028 Correct.
Davis's wife said "It was certainly nice of Ralph to invite us here tonight."
But earlier at 19:03, Alice already says out loud and to Davis "I so glad YOU asked us out tonight."
Davis's wife must not have been paying attention.
True to life scenario where to guys try to be somebody they're not to try to impress the other guy
A assistant plumber job isn’t a bad job nowadays, I guess back in those day it was
Love these grew up with them
Here’s some fun trivia: the waiter played mob boss Phillip Tattaglia in The Godfather!
Yup that’s him

Art Carney served in the U.S. Army during WW2. He was wounded during the Normandy invasion. He went on to a long career in showbiz. He guest starred in the original Batman as a villain and appeared in the Star Wars holiday special.
Timeless.
Never pretend to be someone you are not.
Then cancel the show, lol.
@@thepatriotchannel :
Cancel the show? What? I simply and clearly stated the main idea of this episode. Reading comprehension today is a joke in poor taste.
The moral of the story.
