    Great intro Dom! A fun toy indeed. Sadly a bit too expensive for this Old Fart at this end of his life (and declining finances!) Have to stick with sending up our current holding of foamies to circle with the Wedge-tailed Eagle or rip through the destructive Cockatoo flocks.

  • @J75Pootle
    @J75Pootle ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the kites were more confused by your ornithopter than anything else. It doesn't fly like a real bird (at least, not like a bird of that size in that sort of situation would), it flies like a rock dove (aka feral pigeon, the ones you get in cities) trying to gain speed and altitude, and never changes its "gait". I could see some birds of that size flying like that to take off in high speed winds but, as you can see with the kites, no bird will ever really be flapping that much when they're up that high and already up to speed.
    It also probably added to their curiosity when this bird that doesn't fly "properly" didn't react to their warning dives in any way lol.
    Either way, it's a very impressive piece of kit and I'm not trying to insult it at all, I am just a lover of birds and can't help but notice how different the flight pattern of this thing is compared to a real bird

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It flaps its wings. That's about the only similarity TBH. Fun though! Appreciate your comments 🙏

    I'm serious make one look like a vampire bat and it would be great because this has the same flying characteristics as a bat. The angle of attack, The flapping speed, And the quick movements back and forth, It just basically looks like the way a bat flies. So make it look like a bat!

  • @Raptor50aus
    @Raptor50aus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Were you changing the wing flapping speed with the remote?

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Forwards and backwards on the stick to climb and descend.

  • @Tappit333
    @Tappit333 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I placed the linkage in the end holes of the tail servo horns to give me a tighter and more responsive turn, the "paddles" are about a few millimetres above the surface of the tail and although it makes it stall slightly it means you can ease back on the flapping, this means I could add a miniature 4k camera, best to video while in low flap mode I guess.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good to know. Thanks for that! What camera did you use?

    • @Tappit333
      @Tappit333 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EssentialRC I am still working on that, I was thinking of a 4k miniature camera with an SD card, I could use a GoPro, but I would have to add some legs and claws, the gopro could be held in the claws as if the Eagle has just snatched the gopro out of my hands :-)

      @@EssentialRC That will be good to see, I was also wondering if custom wings, perhaps with a few more inches in length, as long as it is not too much strain on the motor. I flew my bird last Sunday afternoon here in the New Forest, a guy came over while I was flying the Eagle, he asked me if he was at Yew tree heath, it turned out he was a bird watcher looking for a rare bird that was spotted a few weeks ago; when he saw the Eagle he was amazed how realistic it flew, he even said it looked like a male version of the bird he was looking for. He asked permission to film it and send it to his members as a joke claiming to have seen one.

      @Tappit333 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EssentialRC I modified a Kean q15 mini 4k wifi camera reducing the weight to 17g attaching it under the Eagles head/neck. Dad and I took the bird for a fly today but the wind was too strong, the extra 17g at the front and the wind, was a little too much for a successful launch, I tried it again without the camera and battery, this time it flew against the wind, ideally it would need an action camera as the video footage after take-off was too slow, my intentions were to let it glide once it was high enough. Determined to fly with the wind so strong, I launched it a final time, fighting the wind, it hovered above me at 160ft until it turned downwind so fast I had to put it in landing mode, keeping an eye on where it came down, it took over an hour to find it among the gorse bushes. I really thought it was lost because the battery was too low for me to hear the wings flap, but Dad being in his late 80s and used to retrieving his lost aircraft in the past was able to find it further than I thought it landed, lesson learned today, never fly in strong wind. I have ordered one of those key finder gadgets that have a 90db sounding beep at 130ft range just in case, this should be only a few grams.

  • @Raptor50aus
    @Raptor50aus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just ordered this GoGo Eagle on Amazon, thanks for the review. I have flown a few different ornithopters over the years inc the pterodactyl (Hobby King) which flew well but had very weak drive gears and the carbon wing rods would snap. I still have the bionic bird with rc stick remote and that is still flying great after 5 years.
