i just had this problem where the apple remote no longer controlled the volume on my TV. called apple and was told it was my TV. did this and now it works fine. unreal apple support, great job.

Ok, I’m sure you have heard of this problem but I can’t find a fix for it. I have a Samsung TV and Soundbar. Recently, I bought a new Apple TV so I can subscribe to TH-cam and then “cut the cable” for Comcast except for the internet connection. My wife was thrilled since we can now (or so I thought) get by with the one Apple TV remote. It appears that I can control the volume, turn off TV and of course control the Apple TV. However, after the TV has been off for a while (at least a couple hours), when I press the on button on the remote the soundbar comes on but not the TV. Then I have to get the Samsung remote to turn on the TV. Not sure what the problem is. Any ideas?
You need to check all the HDMI CEC settings between all of the devices and make sure they are enabled/disabled and aligned for what kind of power control and operation you desire. It could also be that the TV needs to put into a certain low power or wake up mode other than the mode it is in.
Thanks so much for the feedback/help.. I did find the setting on my TV to enable HDMI CEC (Anynet+) section of the System sub menu at the bottom. Had to scroll off screen to find it.
