That's how it is for me this late in the short squid fishing window. Three weeks ago, if you were lucky enough to see a pod, they would be feeding. Now they just swim right past you. They just didn't come in early this year. Worst squid fishing in past 5 years from my perspective. The commercial fishermen I talk to say it could be the warm water, the dead zones of algae in the ocean (like off Shinnecock this year), stripers and other predators gorging on them ......... Squid fishing really is a lot of fun though.
Always fun to watch even in frigid conditions. Better you than me 😉
Haha yeah it was in the 20s this morning

Very interesting, we’ll see how long they’ll stay
I have a question, how long do squid stay around long island? I'm thinking about going out soon but not sure if they are still around.
I don’t know to be honest, but this winter I’m going to find out. This is a warmer than normal season so far so we will see
Cool. Squid are amazing.
They really are
I bought that lure "luminous squid jig hooks" on amazon that kind of snags them
Yo-zuri?
Can this sort of action be found at any north shore pier at night? What leader should I use. Interested in doing this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Some areas are better than others but basically yes. I use 12lb flouro leader, hi low rig with 2 squid jigs and a 1oz weight
@ do you have to got at nigh
@ yes
How about cast netting them? They looked pretty thick there.
I thought about that but I think they’d be too fast
You might want to check the regulations first. Some squid fishermen get really annoyed when someone breaks out a casting net.
@@audiofat there are no regulations on recreational squid fishing as far as I know
how long do they stick around?
Probably another week or two
Where in long Island
What town?
I have seen them at Captree, Smith Point, Port Jeff docks, around the inlets
Used to go out east to get them. Last time I went there was guys with generators on the docks set up with huge lights.
@@brionfranks478I thought they were only on the north shore?
B, you’re a G
Haha thanks for watching!
catch and cook!!!!!
Haha I cooked it but didn’t do it in the video, I have previous catch and cooks with squid
