The idle on the engine is pretty bad, you need a good carburation and timing adjustement, also I heard some weird noises in the engine compartment, those might be from the electric generator, probabbly from the ball bearings, it needs maintenance
Love the VW. They never did idle right. They were made to drive, not sit and idle by the sidewalk. You could never get one to idle smooth.
