Sweet! "Bring on the Night" was the third single from their seminal 1979 album Reggatta de Blanc. The details on that clip say the concert was held 1979.12.03, which was a month or so before they released the song as a single. The mysteriousness of the song found on the studio recording got lost in that live performance. And the crowd may not have heard the song before. From what I understand, the song is sung from the perspective of a man in prison and awaiting execution for his crimes. When I saw The Police in 1985, the crowd started dancing straight away with the opening notes of the song. The death row overtones were long gone and it was more a song about bringing on the parties in the night. At any rate, for a more lively show from that era of The Police, check out this concert clip from 1979.
