Scummy company does scummy move. I’m in shock.
For me, I think what this has done is disconnect my gameplay from Scopely's events.
I'm not interested in coreing for energy. I'm not interested in player frames. I'm barely interested in completing any milestones at all.
The only thing I need to do is save every core for character unlocks.
So this disconnects me from their agenda.
I'm earning 12,000 cores/month just from arena, another 4000+ from other sources.
That's enough to open two characters.
And if the first character becomes the one that's "more available" within 30 days I know I can get all 3 new characters in the month. 🤷♂️
Boilon - I appreciate your content and info you provide. Thankful for your videos. But MSF is a grind it out game, and a hoarding resources game. A game of FOMO, can’t expect character shards to come so quickly. We want to have fun, and Scopely wants to create FOMO for money.
With the arena orbs you’ll get 1 shard for the new characters every 20-50 orbs opened it’s not a slow drip its a grinding halt

The one thing this game had going for it for the past couple years was that F2P players could expect to unlock almost all normal characters 1-2 weeks after their offers launched, or part way through the month for month-long event releases. Every other resource was either irrelevant or tightly bottlenecked, and that's why F2P players would skip teams and characters that weren't necessary. We got by with a 3-4* for a few months until we could start slowly farming it up to 7*. This was reasonable compared to other games where even unlocking the newest character might require spending, but this game also releases characters much faster than other games. The ratcheting up of gold costs by increasing the cap from 75 to 100 and the new resources like Blue/Purple Iso-8, Diamonds, and awakened ability materials widened the gap between F2P and spender that was previously just limited to gear tier, yellow stars, and red stars. This was still tolerable. What they're doing now with Captain Brexit and even Old Man Logan crosses the line. I quit and this new direction has me convinced I won't be returning.

@@theach84 It's a milestone for new players they get basic resources as wel as certain characters for some newer-ish teams (think of Cabal and alpha flight) unlocked at a certain level and ability level (think of OML's unlock)
@theach84 so for new players there implemented First, Second and a Third Strike Milestone. Third Strike was in for a day. Run like regular milestone for spending campaign energy, running arenas, raids, War, Cosmic Crucible. First Strike milestones unlocked Sinister/Superior Six mix. As well as Spider Society. Second Strike was some Mercs for Money minus OML and Out of Time. Third Strike was Cabal Illuminati and Gor, Thanos Endgame, and Gladiator. Mixed in is gold training supplies that kind of stuff. Yesterday they removed Third Strike Milestone all together.
What does that mean?
Meh, we'll get used to it anyway. As long as all characters will eventually be available for free, I'm still good 🤷🏻♂️
I have massive doubt that you will be able to get them to 7 star unless they dump a ton near the 6 month time.
Just put them in stores so people can use their saved up resources to max them out quickly once released that way.
They should rename the Annihilation orbs, Surfer orbs 1, 2, 3. I used to purchase the occasional strike pass, but no longer.

I remember playing this game day 1 and how good it was. Abandoned it then came back and uninstalled forever like 2 years ago.
Given the massive jump in power cores in arena, think about it as every 3-4 days you earn an orb for a character. So basically minimum 2 shards a day if you are 50 or lower in arena.
I use to buy 1-2 orbs of each cause it gets unlocks faster, now its up to 5 unless its a meta toon. Hasn't been all too bad especially with a few lucky pulls, Thanos got a 100 drop and Gladiator got a 40.
You say that they don't know what they're doing. Yes they do. They know EXACTLY what they're doing. They got people invested into the game and then flipped the money printer switch. They know that people are in alliances that are all depending on each other to clear raids. They're cranking the FOMO so high that you HAVE to spend to keep up. They don't want F2P to be able to get characters when they are in the meta and relevant. They want you to spend to be able to play. It's just greed. I think they're preparing to cash out and go into maintenance mode. That's why we're not hearing a lot about upcoming events. They're shoring up QoL features for the store, disconnecting their PR and customer-facing support, and turning the game into a horrible gacha with worse rates than I've ever seen in another game. If you look at the gacha slot things for most games, they're usually for game-changing characters and they're guaranteed full unlocks at max power. We're talking about a BASE 3-star unlock for these MSF characters, some of which aren't even really usable at that level. By the time you 7y a new character, they're no longer relevant. By the time F2P gets 5y on Annihilators, they'll have been replaced with the new OP thing you have to buy to keep up.
I'm so glad I walked away from this game. It's the only way to truly win.

Ok so I’ve thought about this more. Sabertooth and Loki were premium only unlocks so it could be worse… what they are unknowingly doing is letting us hoard resources waiting to get the characters. I’m sitting on 40mil gold and more training mats than I can use. By the time I unlock sentinel I’ll be able to bring him to lvl100 gear19 7775. As someone that buys passes and gold when I get a character this may make it easier to be free to play…
Today I needed 3 shards to take the new Thanos to 5 yellow stars. It took 36 orbs. 36. I got two single drops and then an 8 shard drop in my next to last pull. That sure doesn't feel like progress.
You're not alone in this way of thinking, but fortunately you are here to vent and shine light on this new trajectory in MSF. Unfortunately nothing Scamley has done in the recent past is FTP friendly but is for the benefit of Krakens and Whales. I only wonder how fun this game will be for those players when they are the only ones left standing.

Getting 1 shard per orb, and then getting 2 shards from the milestone for opening orbs, just FEELS AWFUL. It's dejecting, not at all like I'm making progress towards unlocking. The only thing that has made me spend on this game in the last few years was when they screwed up on Shattered Dimension and I wanted to take advantage of that but didn't have the gold to bring up enough characters to G17 to beat it, so I bought a STRIKE pass.
As a mid game F2p (13M GP, 6y old account but 280 days logged) who has never spent I just turn a blind eye on new characters release, een when I do unlock those characters I simply don't have the ressources to upgrade them to the poitn where I could really use them. It feels weird, like I'm playing the same game as spenders but on a 6 months delay, I finally have enough ressources to have a usable hive mind team lol.
Feels like baby apoc is still 6 months away. DD5 almost done but it feels like I'll never get to the current DD (not finish it, just enter it)
I could live with 1 shard orbs if we get 4 per day for 25 days. But, I don't even see that happening.
I really wouldn’t want to spend $50+ dollars for a 3 star unlock if it’s still going to take me 1-2 months to even get one additional star for them. Ridiculous!
They want everyone here every minute of every day to boost their engagement metrics, it's why they did the weekend events but clearly they weren't enough so they are pushing harder.
It's annoying that Scopely can't just give krakens more resources (so many events for them!) and instead it means I can't use Deathstalkers in Mystic raid nodes until 2025 (which other than relative resources of me getting like 1 more old raid orb, doesn't affect some whale alliance at all)
Also there's no way that we're getting 7 star annihilators f2p once 6 months from release happens. I don't believe it.
I opened 18 thanos orbs and got 1 thanos shard. Smdh
so far 1 Thanos shard from over 50 of these not Thanos arena orbs. The rest has been almost entirely Surfer except the one time I got some Gladiator and Gorr. I should add, I used to spend on some new characters but that will never happen again.
This game is just going backwards at this point! First, the new reworks and how powerful the characters are now is beyond a joke because there is no need for me to work towards DD7 because DD8 is out so I may as well focus on that. Secondly, by the time most of the F2P players have unlocked new characters, they will already be out of the meta or the game would have a stealth update which renders them useless. Thirdly, you are spot on about driving the player base away, the game has already lost so many players due to poor decision making and this is only going to increase that. Also, driving F2P players away will then cause mild spenders to walk away because they won’t be able to compete with the whales, then the whales end up leaving because the game isn’t fun anymore because they’re playing against other spenders and not getting the results for their own spending. What a shit show the game has become. Keep up the content Boilon!
I opened the sentinel orb and had a "meaningful reward". I had 2 shards from my 2 orbs... this is so meaningful, another 98 more orbs for the unlock. This is so "fun and engaging"! FYI scopely i was being sarcastic, pls dun use this as data to skew your data again.
basically they're widening the gap between the heavy spenders and everyone else. for me as a light spender, think there's less incentive for me to spend at all.
It's not from playing everyday it's from winning in arena!

So lets assume 250k players (pretty close, and it makes math easy)

'encourage daily engagement' why to get my daily 1 shard orb. They pretty just told players no pointing in participating in events for the first month. Not going to bust my ass all month for 30 shards.
If I were a heavy spender this is exactly what I would want, why am I going to spend money on something that’ll be given away in a few days. As a light spender I get it but I don’t begrudge the whales for wanting a change in the release method of characters.
It's clear to me, Scopely told me that they don't want me in their game, so goodbye!
theres barely a lesson to learn for them because the system works: people spend and they spend alot. boomer pointed this out too, the game is growing even with all the screwups after the last completly great thing they did with the sinistere6 reworks.

Hey Boilon I been following you for awhile now and love your content. I am definitely concerned about the future of MSF and want to get your opinion if it's maybe time to stop playing? I was originally F2P but lately I have been spending too much money. It just seems like Scopely is trying to get more ppl to spend by making it so hard to get characters.

I think it’s time to cut the game, almost. I play several times a day, a number of hours, and with Gorr I have 81/100; Endgame Thanos I have 9/100; Sentinel I have 11/100 for these unlocks and have gotten basically 0 orbs for all of the campaign events, arena, raids, war, blitz, etc that I’ve been doing…it’s insane
What I do not understand is that we have our "Player Voice" and still get this sh*t. What the heck do they actually do for the players?
So as a new player who just reached 85 after starting 5 weeks ago. HOW do you get so much campaign energy? how do i like hoard properly what are the timers on payouts for blitz and arena and raid and stuff i never have more than my max campaign energy usually
Other f2p might be ok with this, but have you ever tought that this would impact your alliance to, if your in an alliance with spenders and half of you are f2p and they have the team and you dont, so are they going to tolerate you for leeching for what 1 month or 2 just for you to get 1 character unlock on a team that you need 3 to function? Dont you see that, you dont know this since some of you are not playing gacha but gacha rates are horrible! You can save a lot and still not get the character, but the difference is you dont need that character to progress to content of the game, sure that character might help it make easy but it will not prevent your progress to the game, and as a f2p you should be concern especially if they introduce higher difficulty raids, since base on my experince the higher it goes the difficult it gets without the team it self this game is a team game not a plug and play most of the gacha are plug and play they dont have specific teams, thats why even if you dont get the character you can still do the content here it is not, they should rethink this not all whales will be willing to baby sit you while they get minimal the return on what they paid for.
Now this is bullshit they really expect us to just be playing and settle with just 1 shard a day its like a gacha system but is worse.
The way I read it is that at this very moment we are in phase 2 for Gladiator because we have his shards in a milestone event, which tracks with their 30 day progression rate. Now, based on their own words Gorr's event should be next week and that would put Gorr on the 30 day track for a milestone event for extra shards there. And then same with Thanos the week after that, because if I am not mistaken each one of the annihilators "initial release" was seven days apart from each other. This again is the way I am interpreting it, I don't think it's great or that it is bad, time will obviously tell.
Well to go off of this. The Phase 1 does NOT guarantee the unlock, as I am actually sitting at around 20ish Thanos shards (i did unlock, but i got a lucky gatcha orb), so yeah looks like Phase 1 is going to vary wildly, but more likely you will NOT unlock it in the first 30-days. I think it's absolutely bad, and reinforces "Lucky to Play"
@@Boilon Yes you are correct about phase 1, as they even stated in your video that you have the ability to unlock in phase 1 or phase 2. My opinion is that the annihilators was the test dummy run for this plan they have now as we are now seeing the guaranteed 1 shard drop for Sentinel, where as we did not get that with any of the annihilator orbs. I do want to point out that I do not disagree with you on the feeling of the "gotcha" feeling of the orb. It is obviously to early to say if or how many people will unlock sentinel in phase 1. And lastly to touch on your thanos shard experience, we are about two weeks away still from his quote on quote milestone event for him to have shards, based on the amount of shards you have now you will have roughly 40 shards when thaons event drops to then get another 60-70 during his milestone event. Again this is all speculative and to early to tell anything at this point.
People seem to be forgetting in normality we would usually get the ftp event 2 weeks out from release, with most unlocking 3 weeks after, by the time 3 weeks is up, most of us will have them unlocked or close to, I really don’t think it’s the end of the world, as long as they give us enough orbs over the first month, it’s fine
I am a spender and I am not ok with this. F2P should at least be able to see a 3* unlock by end of phase one. Does this also make many milestones and events literally pay to play now? I doubt we see a second run of them for F2P to have a turn. I stop spending now because I agree that this will hurt the game.

Feels like they are preying on whales then giving us free to play a bunch of stuff to catch us up. When gladiator hit 80 shards I started getting gorr. When gorr got to 80 I started getting more thanos shards. It seems pretty consistent rate w/no good luck. Assuming these rates should be better with 100% compared to annihilators. Agree crappy release method but it’s technically same time frame. If we get the whole team in that month. If we miss out on members it’s a failed release. Especially since the raid will have been out for that much longer, still missing 2 teams.
The whales are fine, they buy everything anyway. It's the Dolphins they're going after
What is the player base now?
This new method does not feel fun or engaging, and what little progress there is does not feel meaningful.
I actually find the orbs insulting and they sell these to people with the rubbish drop rates.
I’m not a spender but a business person. $0 -$0 = $0 so there not concern about free to play players. Spender’s play the bills more than F2P. They want to please their money makers by giving them the ViP treatment.
You’re not wrong in your assessment, I agree with you. The one aspect your missing is if you drive away the f2p, then the c2p have no one to beat up and get stuck facing the spenders. When the get beat up by the spenders, they will quit. Then it will be spenders vs spenders. They will get sick of spending and fighting spenders and quit. It’s the snowball effect.

@@derekrice5203 in which game mode? Not in arena, CC, or DD8. Maybe in War. Players in the major leagues are not worried about players in the minor leagues
It’s the middle game players and light spenders this hurts the most.
You know you need the F2P players and the light spenders playing the game so the whales can have some false sense of being good at a video game, which is most likely why they whale, right?

I’m not sure what the problem is. I’m a minnow and buy passes and this doesn’t bother me a bit. The whales and spenders should have a leg up for a while. Why does FTP have to get the character off the bat. Wait a month and then you can unlock while the spenders keep the game up. I have no problem with waiting. I shouldn’t be at a level playing field with people that spend. They keep the lights on…..
ill admit that the game was way too f2p friendly before, coming from a top 100 alliance f2p player, the shit orbs isnt the answer, im sure they will meet us inbetween
What everyone needs to realize, this is a business, they're here to make money, and without making money the game disappears, and we have people who are able to participate without spending money and you then turn around and whine about not getting all the newest shiny toys, all the while not contributing to the sustainability of the game, is everyone picturing how ridiculous this sounds?
