Cool video. We are considered all Colombian because most of us are mixed and that's really hard for Americans to understand. You might see white, brown or black people in Colombia but you'd never know their heritage just by looking at their skin colour. Same as she said she's got Aboriginal ancestry, most of us also have African, Aboriginal and Spanish ancestors. That makes people who are racist even more ignorant since it's almost guaranteed that during +500 years of history one of their ancestors belonged to any of our 3 main racial roots.

I noticed too when I am in another country and I see a fellow brother, we do the head nod of acknowledgement. It's like a natural reflex. 😅😅 And you're right, we barely speak to each other in the states.

This is interesting. I like this content. She’s amazing and I like how she answers each questions. 3:20 I noticed this too. Each group of people has community’s. When I watch interviews like this the thought came to me its interesting how people are moved. Moved as groups, individuals.

Ok, nice video but she is wrong in some definitions.
Blanco = white (they are present mainly in the andean zones).
Negro = black (very common in coastal areas, specially pacific Colombia coast and the biggest Colombian Cities - Cali, Medellin and Bogota).
Indio or indigena = Indigenous (present in rural and semi-rural areas).
Mestizo = Mix between european and indigenous (most of colombians are mestizos).
Mulato = Mix between european and black.
Zambo = Mix between indigenous and black.

When you are speaking to someone who is not quite fluent, use smaller words and also speak kinda broken. Sure they need to get better but once they have the confidence that they can understand you, you can then slowly introduce larger words and less broken language and they will then feel comfortable enough to ask you what that knew word was that you just used. Linguist.

To know, in any given society, how racist it is, you need only look at private/corporate businesses and top professions (i.e. law, medicine, engineering, etc.). If diversity is well represented in ownership, higher levels of importance, or top professions (e.g. board members, CEOs, doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc.), then most likely, you've got yourself a pretty inclusive and accepting country and overall culture. If there are vast differences in race and socioeconomic status... well, you know. lol

Black American men are treated and regarded differently from Black Colombians. Due to our American dollar we are economically in the upper class. Black Colombians are economically taken advantage of and exploited .
