    I thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Marty Haggard, he is so humble,& genuine. It is so “touching “ to hear his admiration for his dad coming through his voice when he speaks of him. May GOD continue to BLESS Marty, his family,& gift of music.

    What a beautiful soul, I love that he is just a good ol' country boy.....bless him. I love that he said on a show once that he and his Grandmother were very close and both had a love for Jesus. That's very apparent, God Bless Flossie Mae Haggard!

    Marty is quite the story teller, and so thankful that he is. Marty was a great singer himself, I wish he would have made it in the business.

    There are so many interesting stories from Marty that I have never heard before. His children should get together and write a book. Would love to see a movie of Merle Haggards' life as well. Hopefully a true story and not changed to enhance the movie because I don't think that would be necessary. He had a very interesting life without embellishing the details. It would have to be as long as "Gone With the Wind" because he had a very full life. I have followed Merle Haggard for years and love his singing. I listen to his videos/concerts on U-tube and have been following his sons for awhile now.

    Wow I'm surprise there are not more people commenting on this interview. Marty has some stories that even the most die hard Merle Haggard fans don't know about. I'm honored to say I was one of those few fans that got to meet Merle and Marty both just briefly in 1977 at the door of Merle's bus. I spoke with Marty for about 10 minutes till he introduced me to his dad. I was in the Marines at the time and I asked Marty to ask his dad about writing another song like Muskogee or Fighten side. I said I know he's got people bugging him all the time and said well Dad's had a few attempts on his life. Marty then said why don't you ask him your self, so he called out ..hey Dad and dad said ya, Marty said would you come here for a minute I have somebody I want you to meet. So Merle came to the door of the bus and I attempted to ask him, when all of a sudden some band members interrupted us. So I just stepped back. Marty says to me..sorry about that. We chatted some more and off I went into see the show. There is more to the story but that's it for now.
    OK some time has passed now, it is now Jan 2023 and I'm trying to recall a memory from 1977. From the beginning I went to see Merle and Marty Robbins in San Bernardino, California. I was standing outback where Merle had his busses parked, and I saw this young guy walking from the band bus to Merle's bus so I said excuse me but are you Merle Haggards son, he said ya, my name is Marty. I said I thought so you look like him. I told him my name and said I am a Sergent in the Marines right now and he said Oh I was in the marines once so we chatted. He said my dad wanted to serve but he couldn't because he got into a little bit of trouble (we all know about that story?. I said to Marty, could you ask him if he might consider witting another song like Muskogee or fightin side, considering the condition of this country right now? He said well dad did write that song called "Jesus take ahold. " Marty commented about a time he picked up a hitchhiker and the guy shot him. No more picking up strangers for me again he said. Marty then said well you better head inside so you don't miss the Show. So I did and about half way through Merle's show he paused and asked the audience if anyone had any requests , I knew everyone would yell out all at once so I waited til there was a moment of silence and I yelled out FIGHTIN SIDE. Merle looked over to see who it was and saw me. "He said yes I was talking to this young marine out back... so here is a song dedicated to the marines, its called the fightin side of me but lets not have no fightin." Ok there my complete story. Tare care friends. Marty and his dad both believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as do I so I will see them in heaven. How bout yall? John 3:16

    To me, no comparison between Merle and Johnny Cash. Merle Haggard is #1 in my opinion.........Willie #2. Your dad had a VERY unusual personality that made up almost 100% of his success. Mostly, it was just plain HIS VOICE!!

      Marty and all of the others sons of Merle basically do their own thing. I do not know Scott and have never met him. The reason we had Marty on our TV show, he was the ONLY son of Merle's that was with him on the road when his dad wrote and recorded all of that great music.

    I've heard Merle say many times in interviews that he wrote Today I started loving you again for Bonnie Owen's. Marty has some great stories to tell but I think he has that one wrong.

    • @stabilt11
      @stabilt11 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bonnie was the inspiration for the song as Merle always wrote song pertinent to his everyday life experiences. But at first, he wanted Marty Robbins to record it.

    She's WRONG! You are not the "spitting image" of your dad, but your singing voice is very much like his. You do look a lot like him, but not as much as Donna said...........who's Donna? If you took glasses off and put a cowboy hat on you would look more like him.

    I get some saying they are not smart, and I respect that ... a lot even, but wtf is the point?
    harry and megan could learn a lot from Marty. Perhaps we could do a swap and have Marty as an honoury member of the royal family in the UK
