I just got this album The Year The Sun Died earlier today in the mail and I have listened to it two times and really enjoyed it big time. I had their album Refuge Denied many years ago, but I became a huge Sanctuary fan a few years ago when I saw them open up for Iced Earth. I unfortunately did not get to see them with Warrel Dane because he passed away a few months before the tour started. Joseph Michael's from Witherfall did an amazing job on the show I saw and I got Refuge Denied again with Into The Mirror Black as a double CD package which I listen to very often. I also got the demo CD Inception not too long after and I really enjoyed it big time also. I do not know what took me so long to get The Year The Sun Died because I really loved it the two times I listened to it. I saw another live video with the song Arise And Purify and I loved it so much that I immediately ordered the album The Year The Sun Died after I listened to it. I am really looking forward to their new studio album coming out sometime this year Transmutation big time. I have really never given Warrel Dane's other band Nevermore a chance, and I am finally going to as I just ordered their live album Year Of The Voyager earlier today.
Mannn, Warrel has improved so so so much since Sanctuary first got back together as far as hitting that mixed voice upper register. Sure, it's not as strong and consistent as literally 30 years ago, but it gets to the pitch on like... every song except maybe chorus of Battle Angels in which case it is the tiniest bit flat but still not bad. If anything, it's the high chest voice parts that are a struggle. He belted some pretty high notes on those records, as well, which I'm just noticing now.
How can Warrel Dane still hits that high notes on "Battle Angels"? People complain, as they always do, but it dazzles me how can he still do it, even if not as it was (it would never be as it was, by the way).
Brad Hull actually sounds pretty damn good here. I always thought after the demise of Forced Entry, that he would destroy his life with drugs or something. Forced Entry were semi-legendary around my area, but their 2 records are not on the same level as the 2 Sanctuary records. This was his most glorious opportunity.
a legend for sure \m/ sure do miss him , was hanging with the guitarist Lenny Rutledge and his wife the other night , her and i started getting emotional as Warrel's anniversary from when he died is coming up December 13th :(
@@kevinlawsonseattle sound is great ! this show meant so much to me , as i was an instant fan of Sanctuary from KGRG Brain Pain days , then i met them at a party just after their 1st tour with Megadeth in 1988 , i was only 18yrs old at the time , anyhow after Nevermore was formed i never thought in a million years that Sanctuary would ever get back together , let alone record a new album, but i was beyond excited when my band Beyond Theory got the call to share the stage with them on this night ! a dream come true !
Hey just wondering dabest70, did you take this footage just randomly or did they ask you to film it? I ask because the quality is really good and the angle is great!
Ni N my band "Beyond Theory"was also on this show, so i already had my cam set up ,and i video tape them everytime i see them ! (and yes i had/have permission) :)
Met Warrell when my band was touring with Manowar back in Seattle in 2002, very nice guy.
