  • Marriage Advice: Put the toilet seat down for your wife... It will improve your marriage!
Seat up or down? I invented something to improve my marriage.
I make unnecessary inventions like this, that are sometimes useful and always fun! The goal of Empowered Engineering is to empower a life changing engineering project every year, and then mix that story in with all the fun project ideas and potentially educational engineering videos on the channel. As the channel grows, the ad-revenue will help to support these life changing projects.

I have to say... That's actually a brilliant way to go out of your way to build a habit for you not to let the toilet seat up. What's good about your story is your attitude. I always believe a toilet seat in a marriage theory is more than just a convenience and consideration factor. It's also a way to show his attitude. How we respond to what we do with the toilet seat depends on attitude. If he say stuff like, why I have to put the toilet seat down? I have to lift the seat up when I have to piss. That's not good attitude. A good attitude would demonstrate like this. I'm not the only person who uses this bathroom. I don't want to stumble in piss water. She's not used to have to put the toilet seat down. Like I said it's about the attitude.

I appreciate your comment, and totally agree with what you said about the importance of attitude! My wife appreciated the extensive and over-engineered effort that went into this… and as a bonus, it actually worked! I now hardly ever forget to put the seat down even in other bathrooms :)

I was hoping for an XYZ sensor like in a cell phone on two sided tape and a coin battery with LED.
So now this is a General Public bathroom seat question about up and down. When the GP travels and uses a family friendly toilet this is what I see that goes down (or not). Men away from home are going to pee on the seat because they can get away with it. Women pee on the seat as they won't sit on it because men pee on it. So if every one is going to piss on it and not touch it let's just leave it up. I will decide to treat it as a clean seat and leave it up.

This was hilarious! Super-creative and great storytelling. It's been a year now since this was published... how high is the toilet tally now?

Lol… down to the single digits. It’s still a work in progress but my wife appreciates the effort! :)

Russell, you definitely need to be on dad diaper duty more often, brother!

This is really impressive! It’s funny how much it depends on your upbringing whether this issue bothers you or not..
Just saying that you could have solved the problem much easier if you just sit down to pee at home!

So true!... and yes, this is definitely an over-engineered solution that could have been solved by just changing my bathroom habits. I have to say though that the light-up sign has been a really fun conversation topic when guests are over :)
