Great review! Whenever I’m done reading anything by James Baldwin I feel like I have to sit with it for several days before I can voice my thoughts. My words never do him justice.
I recently discovered you and I’m REALLY enjoying your perspective. Take your time on these videos, fam. Take breaks. There’s no pressure. ☺️

Goodness! The way you think, the way you observe, the way you express yourself... I wish I could be your friend so that we could read and discuss such important topics. You made me think of the preciousness of the human individual, and how we trade in our uniqueness for jobs and careers that undermined the sacredness of the individual. But what if there was only one person left on earth? Would humanity be valued, then? What would it take for us to realize that indeed we are loved, as you are loved as well? Could we ever truly appreciate who each of us is, DESPITE our flaws, our shortcomings, and our less than ideal versions of ourselves? Thank you for being you!

Your reviews are amazing. I nearly picked up a Baldwin book today (Beale Street is teasing me) but I saw a beautiful copy of Their Eyes Are Watching God today and had to get that because of your review instead. You just sell me everything.

Thank you for sharing. What a great review! I've never heard of this Baldwin essay and now I can't wait to pick it up. I'm reading Blood like Magic by Liselle Sandsbury

This is the first of your videos I've ever watched and I'm really happy I came across this. I haven't read much of Baldwin's work and what i have read, it was so long ago I don't really have an opinion on it. Your review definitely has me excited to check this one out though!

I've recently read "The Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkerson about the Great Migration in the US and I felt like I've lived a whole life while reading it. For me it's one of the best non-fiction (or any for that matter) books I've ever read 💯

Nothing Personal is Kindled up...David Mogo, Godhunter snapped a short slump for me...The Pornification of America made me selfishly glad my daughter's raising kids today, not me!

I read the book and it wasn't that bad. My suggestion to anybody who's going to read it is to skip the forward and the afterward until after you've read what James Baldwin has written. I don't like how the two writers Imani Perry and Eddie s Glaude Jr started to bring up things about Trump and covid, both very divisive aspects in this American society. In my eyes James Baldwin hit on all the right topics that were necessary and I think in this day and age he might even be standing back and away from all the madness and just watching. When they started talking about Trump at the very end and even in the beginning it just made it kind of awkward in a sense because you just politicizing this guy's writing. I mean you have a president right now who is pretty much senile and his son is smoking crack and having affairs with prostitutes and you're telling me that Trump is the problem. We have some of the highest inflation rates, which is basically taxation without representation, that we've ever seen in america. But yet still, Trump is the problem. And I don't even want to get into covid and the fact that a lot of these institutions do not want to talk about the dangers of 5G and how that is most likely correlated to what's causing people to get sick. But at the end of the day I'm going to say the book is amazing, like I said, do not read the forward nor do not read the afterward, until you've actually read what James Baldwin had to say for himself. The two writers Imani Perry and Eddie s Glaude Jr seem to be living up to the Democratic idealism and they want to make their own claim which is fine but in my eyes it destroyed the book, the book would be better off if you just had Baldwin's take and that's it, everything the other two said, in the foreward and the afterward kind of spoiled it for me but it was a very good book nonetheless.
