Depends on the state. My state you don’t need a helmet if you carry a certain amount of insurance I believe. Also not a lot of restrictions on mods here. California has a lot of restriction.

I bought a Rode microphone with 3.5mm jack. It was expensive af for no reason. Probably a big reason it’s good is low speed and my helmet keeps the cabin pretty quiet. A good starter mic is the purple panda lavalier on Amazon or eBay
