I was watching the Lost Lake segment as the time was counting down on the video wondering about the second half of the trail, worried that you didn't have any footage. Happy to hear there's a part 2 coming! Glad you enjoyed Alaska, it's epic.
@@JeffKendallWeed It's for sure better, glad to see you rode it the proper direction as well. I often run into people headed up from Primrose on my way down.
Holy crap, when are you going to write the book on the philosophy of MTB!? That clip at 24:55 is pure gold... never heard someone describe the emotions of riding & the entire experience better
A quick note about the Ebike convo. I own a Turbo Levo and a Kenevo SL. Your comment about trying to pedal a full power Ebike past 20mph in order to clear jumps on flow trails is spot on. Specialized mostly fixed that issue with the Levo SL and Kenevo SL. The friction generated by the smaller motor is almost completely negligible and makes pedaling past the limiter much easier! For that reason, I always recommend people in my area (NW Arkansas) go with an SL if they are considering an Ebike.
This brings me so much joy. These are the trails that got my into mountain biking with my father. I rode all these trails growing up in the Mat-Su valley. My favorite place in Alaska will always be Hatcher Pass just north of Palmer. Not a lot of mtbing in those mountains just really beautiful.
Around here there's a bike park next to a MX track, and you get so pumped listening to the sound of the engines while pedaling and descending, it's awesome.
I have dreams of riding my adventure motorcycle up to Anchorage... If I do, I'll do a few laps on that MX track just for the sake of it! Where are you located?
@@JeffKendallWeed Awesome! Well... it may sound hard to reach but bear with me: first book a flight to Chile and get off the plane when they say "Santiago". Pedal west directly from the airport for around 100km to Bikepark Las Palmas and you're already there!
The Trousered Ninja strikes again! I totally bought two pairs of riding pants because of you, Jeff! And I recognized every name on that old school racer list. Joe Murray was my first MTB hero and I was lucky enough to race with him before he retired. He is so rad. Nice job on the AK adventure. Looking forward to part two…👍🏻
I’ve been waiting for this one! I’ve gotten to live here for three years but have to move on soon. Ridden everything I could find and I will always look back at these videos to relive some of it. Thanks!
Incredible video. Got to watch it and decompress during one of the heaviest days in my life. I really appreciate your content and sharing your passion with us. It means a lot.
I heard you came up to Alaska a few years ago! I bought my ripmo from Rick! I was in BKXCs lost lake video and you may have heard me reference the one ibis guy in all Alaska runs a shop outa his garage! Next time you come up let me know and I can show you some more stuff!
About five years ago, I took a trip to Alaska. I rode the "Lost Lake" trail in Seward. What surprised me the most riding there was that the trails are "WYSIWYG"! - No trail maintenance! - and most people ride hardtails there. My theory is less maintenance? I clipped my knee against a rock on a corner - didn't crash - but was in a little pain for the remainder of the trip. I strived to make it to the lake but didn't quite make it. I was paranoid the whole time for Bears!... I rented a bike from a local shop and got a " Bear Bell" ( AKA - Dinner Bell !!....LOL). Fun times!!
What an incredible adventure. I never knew Alaska had such sweet mountain biking trails….and those views 🙌🏻. Great video once again. Looking forward to Part 2 since I’m just hear chilling and recovering from a broken collarbone.
Did I see correctly that Rick was not running a dropper post? I'm 56 and remember all the names of the riders you were talking about from the 80's. Back in the days of no suspension.
Great footage of Alaska thanks for posting. I use my bear bell riding way out trails like that. Lots of courage to not use one but it does kind of make the video noisy. Nice to see you up at Baker on closing day hope you had a fun ski day with your little one.
Bears aren't super common in riding up there, more moose. I have nearly hit moose who are just standing in the trail when coming around a corner too fast.
That was epic! Some fantastic riding and scenery. I still can't wrap my head around how you can ride so fast on those blind corners without sliding out into the trees. I'm scared to death of running into a bear in the back country, I don't think I could handle riding out there. Putting honey on your friends helmet was a good idea, lol!
Jeff!! Outstanding, been wanting this for a long time thanks:) Not enough about Alaska, love the motorcycle trips you do also. Big bike fan. I have a question. I'm the same weight and height as you. I'm 43 years old. I don't have a ton of energy but I want a very energetic bike to maximize my input. What is the most 'poppy and playful' bike that gives the most positive energy back? Thanks in advance and keep up the good videography?
Already left it... Rocky needed the test bike back, so off it went in early 2021. Loved that bike! here's another vid with it: th-cam.com/video/zgA20sIuixM/w-d-xo.html
@@JeffKendallWeed Thx for the geo vid, by the way. That helpful immensely during a bike fitting to get the geo dialed in for my Rocky. I know how much work that entailed to test each one of those positions, and then report on it.
I DONT GET IT!!!! I demoed the Rocky Mountain Altitude I don’t know it was a demo maybe it wasn’t set up but I have owned nine bikes in the last two years and I thought it was a pig. My Pivot Switchblade get off the ground so much easier than that Rocky.

LMNT is brilliant. I love the unflavored one for bike rides. Chocolate is great in coffee/hot cocoa. Raspberry and Citrus are also staples.
Looking forward to part 2 👍 we’ve been trying to get up there for the last 2 years but the border has been closed! Hopefully this summer the align
Let me know Eric! I live on the kenai peninsula and would be happy to show you guys some stuff!

If you ever go back to Anchorage you have to ride hillside. Trails were designed partially by gravity logic of Whistler.

My first glimpse of Alaskan riding. Thanks for ripping up the trails set against those incomparable backdrops. God’s country.
Welcome to the big AK!!!
so beautiful and so different from where I ride. I really want to visit. I very much enjoyed the manuals and fun airs.
I LOVE JEFF KENDALL-BEARD, to say the least i like the new look bro
Maybe the high winds the pervious night caused the moisture in the soil to freeze.
What an amazing place to ride some mountain bikes!
Awesome trails Jeff for sure! They reminded me of Park City a lot!
Oh shoot, I forgot about Park City! I haven't ridden there since ~2008.
Love how you wore pajamas at 7:50 instead of biking attire;)

Fantastic video. Very enjoyable and fun to watch.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful up there! Need to make a trip up north, further than my usual NM/CO trips haha
Amazing epic ride! Alaska definitely a bucket list location for me!

Jeff, buddy let me know if you ever want to come back up and I'll get ya deeper in. So much untapped riding out here. great shots.
Thank you! Would love to make it back up! Would be super cool to moto up one day!
Remember to wear your bacon underwear to keep the bears away!
awesome vid!
We wanna see more stoppies
Just did a whole tutorial on how to stoppie... It went live on Patreon very early yesterday morning.

By all means, keep doing wheelies, especially if you can give us a side shot of you doing it :-)
This is why not everything should be turned into an 8’ wide machine-built flow trail.
True that! There's a time and a place for a flow trail, but there are more times and more places for real trails!
I started mtb in Durango CO. In 1984 and I don't know who those folks are.
I wish I could ride on two wheels as good as you ride on one!
Thanks Erik!

lol I wish!!!
NO WAY!!! I live in Alaska
Epic!
Thanks Andy. I don't like to use that word too much, but felt it fitting for this one.

Why don't more people ride Alaska, you ask? Bears eat people, especially those with "Bear spray". Just happened again in Yellowstone. Just saying.
