Great presentation, very confident, and as animated as a couple of sprites. I really enjoyed watching this video. ;-)

Amazing show! - I've seen lots of these presentations from the Twins, and they get better every year. I'm so glad the boys didnt go with a modern remake of Dizzy after all, as Dizzy is very much an 8 bit game. I talked to John Cale of System 3 about The Last Ninja and all their issues with trying to make a modern 3D game. Its just not possible, and the only way to do it is with crowdfunding, and slowly building up a loyal backer base to attempt larger projects. Thats how Chris Hulsbeck does it.
This video reminded me that I still have all the original pencil and felt tip maps I made of Dizzy 1-4, and I even made a special article hyping what I thought would be Dizzy 5 - but this never came out, and we got Prince Of The Yolkfolk; which felt like a seven screen demo. One of these days I will make a video with me playing one of the Dizzys, and following the solutions I hand-made back in the day, when I was perhaps 12 or 13 years old. I bet I could still complete the games with my old walkthrus, but reading my ancient hand writing is the hardest part. Really amazing to realise these guys really exploded the Codemasters Simulator range of games, which we take for granted these days.

Many years ago I remember reading the card on the cassette box for a Dizzy game.
Blah Blah Blah the Oliver Twins. Hm, Twins making Games, that's interesting probably
marketing humour, I wonder if they're real people or is it just a company name.?
Nice upload and so educational, the Twins are real and a vital part of gaming history.
Loved that game and went on to buy the whole series from car boot sales, mainly.
My kids played them on an old speccy 128 +2 until they wore them out.
I'd love to see them all remade now using today's technology and graphic realism.
That would be a hoot. 🖐🏼🥚👍🏼

According to Wikipedia, the Oliver Twins were responsible for 7% of the UK games market at one point in the early 90's.

Fantastic they are making a new game and doing it with taste by developing for old hardware not only modern platforms. instead of "heres your favourite band from the past ! but they went dubstep" haha nothing wrong with that either, works well but i love the old machines and games.

meanwhile in Japan they support their people... and the creators of Mario, Sonic... where are they now.... ffs we're tragic.

      we agree - sadly.

Looking up their Wikepedia article it seems their Blitz games company released a ton of games and they are now working on a new Dizzy game and releasing puzzlers for phones. The creator of Mario is now just a figurehead who smiles for the camera and the genius behind Sonic('s code) is almost certainly doing something genius somewhere but I'm not sure they've been knighted or given life-long government trust funds for their excellence. The Oliver Twins were recognised for their contribution to industry.... why I'm paraphrasing the Wikipedia article I'm not sure as you can probably look it up yourself. But yes, Oliver Twins should get a statue at the least! Although the quality of celebrities statues can be very hit and miss.

Interesting talk, but very poor audio (mostly much too quiet and then for several words much too loud). Please fix that, there are now several videos on this channel with poor audio like this, seems to be a lack of knowledge by the editors. Use audio compression, please. :-)

it was largely our fault because we talk when not holding mic.

    • @patrickgrochowy
      @patrickgrochowy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Not your fault, that happens with handheld mics, quite normal. But it's no big effort to fix that afterwards with audioediting (compressing, limiting, ...). That's what this channel should use for audiomaterial like this. :-)
