This will be my second year growing strawberries 🍓!!
Nice, Martha!!! Feel free to share any tips that have worked for you along the way!! Thank you for watching - Kim
Been growing them since 1972. Good soil drainage, cow manure, and water exclusively using water & manure
mixed in a wooden barrel. Never a pest issue.
Wow, that's impressive! Sounds like you've perfected your squash-growing method over the years. Using cow manure and water mix for irrigation is a smart technique, and it's great that you've kept pests at bay too. Here's to many more successful years of squash growing! CK
Yes, I’ll be growing strawberries with you!
I have 20 strawberry plants in a tower!🍓🍓🍓🍓
Nice Joyce!!! We always got something going on together, don't we! CK
@@CaliKim29 yes we do!
Growing strawberries from a store bought berry is really easy. I took 2 berries, sliced the skin very thinly and laid the cut part down in a seed starting tray with a good seed starting mix (store bought). Really quickly they started to germinate under grow lights. Within 4 weeks they are in my garden doing great! Just make sure you like to taste if the berry you are using 😊
I ended up with over 50 plants from the two berries.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing this!! Kim
Happy Easter to you guys!
We had strawberries a few years back, but then I didn't know how to properly care for them and - well, you can guess the end of that story. We're trying again this year, but we're trying on a much smaller scale. I think this will be a better learning platform for me, and a far more manageable one. Fingers crossed!
Stephanie I highly suggest that you search my channel "strawberries" and watch/listen to them while you do work, etc. I think you'll pick up tidbits from each one! let me know! You got this...Kim
@@CaliKim29 Thanks! Will do!!! 🙂
Something has been eating my strawberries right when they get ripe. I always assumed it was birds, but maybe it is bugs. Will definitely try the bug and slug treatment this year.
You may want to also try shade cloth, I use pretty much 80%...sometimes the covering is a deterrent, too. Yah, a bummer, but part of the deal. Let me know, Kristy!! Kim
Although I don't have a garden, I would love to watch you plant and harvest.❤️
Yes, I am growing strawberries 🍓 in the summer 2024 thanks for sharing tip & links
You are so welcome! How is the garden doing otherwise? CK
Thank you for sharing this with us 😊. 🍓
Thanks for watching! You are so welcome!
Thank you for the tips ❤
Anytime - you got it!! Thank you for watching!!! CK
I just put in 12 new plants and need to fertilize soon
Excellent, how exciting!
Good info as always, love.
I love this!❤
Always good to hear! Thx, Kim
Absolutely. I am also a Kim from Cali. Lol. I'm in the SF Bay area in Zone 9a.
I'm growing 26 Seascape strawberry plants in a GreenStalk tower, lots of green growth, flowers, and starting to fruit. Alabama zone 7B
Here we go!! CK

How often are we supposed to put the fertilizer? Just found your educational channel! Thank you!
Hi Victoria, I fertilize my towers with the liquid fertilizer every few weeks. My detailed recommended garden fertilizing schedule is in my book on Raised Bed Gardening, link is in the video description. 25% off a signed copy (expires today, 4/12/23) with the code "sunshine". Have fun with your strawberries!
Mine are just getting going.
You're on your way - K
Thank you, My strawberry patch looks poorly. I appreciate the demo and tips.
Glad it was helpful!
My wife and I were just talking about white strawberries. Seen them at sam's club. Did you ever grow or eat them ?
Hi Rick, search my channel for Strawberry towers. Have fun!
Hi, Kim! My friend, Debbie, told me about your channel. How many strawberry plants should I put in each crate?
Thanks for the reminder to get my strawberry plants jump started! I made a milk crate tower similar to yours a few years back! Thanks for another great diy idea❤
Y/W - Wonderful! Seems so long ago!!! I learned it from Urban Organic Gardener! They are a blast!
🍓🍓🍓 Wake up, strawberries!
If some of the crowns seem to be too far down in the planter and not able to get enough sunlight, can you somehow “pick them up” to add more soil underneath them and help them get closer to the sunlight? Or will this just damage the plant?
Rachel, You can easily transplant strawberries if you like for better crown placement, or if they get too crowded as they grow.
Carefully dig down below the crown and roots with a trowel, remove the plant, and place it in a new location, crown above the soil. Go for it! Let us all know how it goes!! You got this - Kim
Great video. My strawberries were three year old and weren’t looking good. I just bought some at the garden center. Is it best to let them sit outside to get acclimated for a few days, or is it okay or plant them this weekend?
Sorry, Teri! Okay to go straight into the ground!! LMK!
I was thinking about getting lady bugs for my vegetable garden which is close to my strawberries. Will they be ok if I use the bug and slug pesticide?
absolutely not
Did you get a hair cut? Looks lovely!
I did, Donna!! Thank you and for watching, too! Kim
Kim, I have crates with strawberries but they have almost all died. I live in IL so the cold may be why??? Can they be revived??
Strawberries are dormant in the winter, especially in a cold climate. As long as you protected the crown/roots over the winter, they should wake up for spring with the steps in the video.
However, strawberries are most productive for 3-4 years, so if it’s been this long and berry production is declining, you may need to replace some plants.
Based on your answers of those two bits of info...will you wait and see if they revive or remove and start new? I hope this helped, Jackie!!! Let us know what you decide and how that goes! Kim
I had alot of dead plants last yr and replaced them. So if these don't come back I'm not gonna try again, unfortunately 😒 😕
Timing the fertilizer for my day neutrals did me in last year, creating lush leaf growth but small berries that got picked off by the birds anyway. What plant signals do you look for so you know when to reduce the nitrogen and increase the P and the K to get those plump luscious berries? Will the fruit benefit from more potassium vs phosphorous or is it vice versa? Thanks CaliKim.
Can you use liquid miracle grow for fruits and veggies?
As long as the label says it’s OK for edible crops, it’s totally up to you. I believe they have some organic options now. Let us know what you find out, Debra! Kim
Thanks, you are beautiful girl! 😸
It's great to see the strawberry tower still going strong 💪
It never gives up!! HA~! TY!
Hi! I watched your video on six mistakes to avoid while starting seeds and bought all the things you recommended. Unfortunately, I can’t find lightbulbs that meet the requirements that are also light enough that they don’t weigh down the clamp light. What lightbulbs do you use???
Amazon changes links, etc. - Please check the video description for the link to the lights that I am currently using. See how that goes and keep me posted! CK
I have tiny lil white winged moths that fly outta my berry plants. What are they and how do I get rid of them?
Monica, these are the moths, called Whiteflies, ironically, that lay eggs for the Cabbage Looper and are very destructive.
I used Bonide’s Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Brew, which has worked well for me. Good luck and let us all know here, how it goes! Kim
Your strawberry look healthy but my strawberry unhealthy , thank you for sharing gardening tip
Go to my page and click in the search field, and type strawberries. Watch those videos to see if any of them give you tips as to where you can start troubleshooting where the process is going wrong? CK
