I’ve been watching for a while now, I’m 65 and I had a stroke a year ago. My grandson showed me how to use the TH-cam. I can get into seeing you working on the same old cars I grew up with, and it takes me back to a better place in my life. Thanks!
Charles I am very sorry to hear that, I turned 65 last year and its amazing how fast old man time catches up with us. Back in the late 70s had a 71 Road Runner 383 Pistol grip got it out of a wrecking yard for $750. My mom bought it . It had been road hard and put out wet driver door crushed exhaust tied up with electrical cord 383 was on its last leg , I just got out of Auto Tech School and was making a whopping $3.50 and hour working for this tight ass Stenovich motors, A week after I got the car took it into the shop and the whole wire harness under the hood went up in smoke. Eventually got that fixed new exhaust we got the front seats recovered and I think I put in a new clutch . Took it to Reno for the weekend and blew a head gasket I had pure milkshake in the engine and that poor 383 was knocking and rattling all the way back home I just Knew it was going to blow up and launch a rod. I babied it and it got me from Reno all the way back home 250 miles. I have no clue why it had every excuse to blow up on me. I will say to un certain terms the 383 was one of the baddest engines Mopar made beyond hell for stout. Mom and I pulled a 383 out of a Polara it was a two barrel engine and painted up the engine compartment jet black got it running found a door for it and I got it polished up and looking good with deep dish chromes. I ran into the ex girl friend of the guy that had it before and she told me he would snort coke and take the Road runner and run people off the road. Sold that car for $1,250.00 I regret it every day I miss that car and the pistol grip she was such a nice road car :{ My Mom and I went in halves on a 69 RT Convertible back in 91 matching number 440 hp matching trans factory AC power windows power top factory Hemi Orange one of 426 made I lost her in 2017 I will never sell it
We as people, must use a hobby or something that lets us know how life can be,if we can escape reality of our life issues, and know that we must address our issues, but at the same time,do things to help ourselves be a more stable and positive person,to where we don't let our personal issues keep us from letting us enjoy our lives trouble free as possible.stay strong, safe and sound Peace and Blessings to you... I got a 383 to put into my 68 Charger. I wanted to experience that big block feeling from yesteryears! Great video! That car is a definite keeper. You don’t often see original metal like that. Awesome score!
I always loved cleaning and straightening up the wiring and plug wires and hoses. It makes the motor look 100% better without even painting it. But I do always like to put a little paint on the motor. These Mopar's are so much fun to work on.
This is the car that caught my mom's eye when my dad was rolling by back when this car was new back in Baltimore Maryland. This car means a lot to me but when I came around from that situation a 69 super bee was the one I remember and the bee is the one we came out to California in. I'm into both but would love to build a super bee one day myself. But at heart I'm a 67-69 dart guy. Very inspiring video brotha and keep them going good buddy!!
I resubbed to the country boy gas garage after he was hacked, I know that feeling when your computer is toxic and you can't look at anything because its just spreading the virus. You get a new one and are afraid to use it like you used to do. I enjoy seeing old engines come back. Dodge always had a ton of power and fast. No one likes the rig I love and grew up with in those little hick towns. I had 57 fords of all description. The plain one and the fairlane, then the fairlane 500 two door hardtop with 292 and three speed. Mine were always black or black and white .. never see anyone fixing on one like the same in chevys
I think the 71 & 72 b body style were the best. The under side and frame looks great. Buy a couple rear quarter panel patches and you have a solid car. Love it. Take care and be safe.
Heck Yeah Brad! Man Another Great One! Let em Rip Not Rot!🤘I So Appreciate The Shout Out Bro! Much Love! 🙏 It's been a tuff blow! But I'm not giving up! Let's Go! 👍
Wow Brad that car really cooks! I like the way you really pay attention to detail, pull the distributor and circulate the oil and make sure that motor has the best shot that it can. Now all she needs is a posi 👍☮️
That’s what I’m talking about Brad! Man that ol girl sounds good through those open headers. That’s the 383 I was talking about for the Roadrunner!? Hey it’s a big block with the closed chamber big valve heads. Maybe throw a rowdy cam and new valve springs in her, bet she’d be a screamer, and look real nice all cleaned up and sitting in that Roadrunner. Just throwing that out there. Awesome save brother! Keep on keeping on! Let em rip not rot!
Some friendly advice: when you get an engine with crusty oil in the valve covers like that, after you clean everything out and drain the oil, drain the old oil filter and reinstall it on the engine. Then dump 5 quarts of diesel fuel in the engine. Start it up and let it run for maybe 5 minutes at the most. Shut it off and drain the fuel out, change the filter, and fill it up with new oil. Should be much cleaner after that. Good way to clean your engine on the inside. Don't Rev it, just let it idle. Watch the oil pressure and be sure it doesn't drop below 10 psi. If you don't like putting straight diesel fuel in the engine, you can do half diesel /half oil. Either way it'll lubricate everything, remove sludge, carbon, and varnish from inside the engine. If it's super bad, you can let the engine sit for an hour, add 5 more quarts of diesel, and run it a second time. I know you couldn't do it on this engine because it wasn't running, but next time, pull the valve covers first before you drain the old oil. You can clean everything up on top, get it running, then drain the oil, do the diesel treatment, then put fresh oil in it. Cool cars man!
Growing up my older cousin had a red charger that body style( not sure the year) had a wide white stripe!!! When I was a kid that thing was loud and awesome!!!
Always it's the powerplant that makes the vehicle, and most can be fixed back up, I'd say this car had been done before, probably not the chassis, but they will make it shine again.
This one is definitely worth puttin some more time and money into! It spun that back tire like it wasn't even tryin! I'm with you on the wiring, it's one of the first things I like to do after initial cleanup. Without good connections you might as well forget it.
way better then the 72 that I pulled out of the yard. I had to take and replace the crossmember and the front driver frame rail. you have a great find here man
Brad, didn't get to finish watching last night, but back this morning :) They make a epoxy for gas tanks (Not JB WELD) that fixes pin holes and is gas resistant !!! But if there is pin hole, sure you know metal is wasted inside, so boat tank is best bet !!
Whoa!!!! Knew it was going to be good, just seeing the intro! Had a smile on my face, the whole video! Congrats on getting the satty back on the road, and I want to personally thank you for the tips you showed for the engine. Tearing out and replacing all of the wires under the dash, because some hack has put a stereo system in, and cut or tap into numerous wires and now wonders why his dash lights and interior lights are not working. I've even had cars where previous owners have used speaker wire, in place of automotive wire and electrical connectors that are supposed to be for house wiring. I wouldn't speculate about that being an old drag race motor. But I'm sure the original 400 motor would've been blue and the ignition module has been changed and relocated among several other changes under the hood. Carb and spacer, headers, ect. If your planning to change out that rear to an 8-3/4. Be advised that not all "B" bodies are the same width. A 68' to 69' rear end from a RR, GTX, or Satellite "B" body is the perfect width to keep 12 inch meats under the fender wells. You will have to cut the leaf perches and relocate them a little closer to the backing plates. But it's worth it in my opinion. It's kinda like a low budget min-tub rear. But without all of the extra work. If you put average 12X15 inch tires w/4" back spacing on the 8-1/4 rear u have now they will stick way out past the fender. Any 71' to 72' rear end from a RR, GTX, or Satellite will be much wider than the 68-69. Like almost 6 inches wider. I just thought I'd mention it - just in case. Good luck -
