after playing super mario maker 2 for nearly two years straight, i decided it was time that i make a return to the land of mario maker 1 to see just exactly what i was missing before i joined the mario maker community. tried to show a little bit of everything the game has to offer! maybe i'll revisit it again at some point?

It feels so weird when you've watched Mario Maker from the start, and the transition into 2 and how both games evolved over time. It didn't really feel like there was such a drastic difference, but seeing everything in the first game now is so jarring. It's unlocking memories I didn't even know I had!

I remember trying to beat that Shaun the Sheep level that Nintendo made a long time ago. It took me a while, but I did it. Ah the old memories of just playing mario maker and just taking in all the chaos even if it wasn't fun.

12:50 it probably was a glitched overlay block that was actually a brick block and you needed a p switch but once the bug was fixed it became an actual cloud again.

I’ve played dozens of hours on MM1, the difference between the 2 games hits me pretty strong but when it released it didn’t really noticed how improved is MM2!
Mario Maker 1 is so nostalgic for me. I remember coming home from school and going on my Wii U to make and play levels. It was the game that got me into Super Mario games and I’ll forever have good memories of it.
I’m gonna say, while Mario Maker 2 has more features and stuff, there were aspects of the first game that were better, such as overlapping objects, event courses, the weird mushroom, and more. Also making levels in TV mode just feels weird, and I understand why, but I prefer the first game’s drop down menu with all the items.

wow, smm1 has so much more magic and love put in it than smm2, and it SHOWS
it's like smm1 was made for fun, by a dev team which loved it, adding all those cool easter eggs
smm2 was made for the sake of making a sequel

Also it had challenges on the story level that where extra hard but optional, like clear conditions but optional.

Once I had Mario maker for the Wii U and when I tried to play it one morning it got way too scratched up and my dad said he would try to get the disc fixed but he never did so I got the DS version (this was before Mario maker 2 was out)

I'm assuming that SMM1 counted skipping a level as a fail to a w/l ratio, but that accidentally counted towards the difficulty rating, too
so if a level looked bad on the first screen, its difficulty would be artificially inflated
