Johnny Ringo Mc Donagh is the finest ever ,a true original who expanded the bodhrans possibilities and set the tone for all succeeding players.Few come close to his artistry.
It's amazing how that idea of feeling rather than controlling (=kind of less is more) simply works!!! - in my very modest beginner's way - but the keys you give do make a difference. I have to work on this now. THANKS!
Thank you very much for this. I just found it today. Johnny Ringo has been my hero and inspiration for the last thirty years, since a musician friend let me hear a Bodhran solo he played while with DeDannan. Over the years, of course I have developed my own style of playing, but I can see from watching this that I have indeed been heavily influenced by Johnny's style, along with bits from Peadar Mercier and Kevin Conneff. Perhaps you could do videos of their styles sometime? : ) It was great watching this, very informative. Cheers!
@@ronaran8420 Hello there! No, I remember it was from a live performance. A concert they did somewhere. One of the band members said "Now, Johnny's going to do a bodhrán solo.", and off he went. I remember my friend had it on a cassette tape and played it for me on his car stereo. I was still learning to play back then, and I was absolutely floored by that solo. I would love to hear it again sometime. I may have to look for it on YT now. I do love the one you mentioned, too. Thanks for the memories!
@@Hare_deLune Hello! Thank you for your reply. I'm sure this concert can be found somewhere though. If you are living in Ireland you can always enquire in Galway at The music Shop The Four Corners, or otherwise call them: 091 562295 or send an email (powellsmusicshop@gmail.com).

Ya! I run into this with my playing. Sometimes I want to do more and I end up ruining it by overplaying.

Hare deLune. I will take it as a challenge!
Was it the final solo on 'Hey Jude' from The Star Spangled Molly by any chance? That one really grabs you by the guts!
