In the UK we are warned about astroturf as it can get very hot and retain heat, even with our temperatures. Even concrete can get too hot. If you want to check for temperature issues, stand on the turf in bare feet for a few minutes. If it feels hot to your feet, then it’s definitely too hot for the animals. Urine can also burn the soles of feet too, so if your astroturf doesn’t drain well, then they will be standing in urine. Worth considering that factor too. 😊
They are digging at night trying to get out. They have no shelter or even a bed to snuggle into. They were taken away from the mom too soon and are terrified being left outside all night.
I just want to say Joey it’s really nice that you are so transparent with the pups and the turf. It’s a teaching moment for you and the viewers that weren’t aware. Some wouldn’t for fear of people commenting rudely. You try your best and you’re doing a great thing taking in all of these dogs!!❤
Amazon sells drainage mats. I used it by the pool to prevent scraping our feet and for anti slip. It's rubbery, easy to clean with a hose, can be placed over the turf and you can cut it to size. Poor babies ❤
I was thinking something similar! Restraunts have rubber mats in the dish pit to stop slipping. They’re easy to wash and win holes in them for water drainage! I’d just worry about heat and them potentially getting too hot.
I would do some research to see if it's supposed to be like that or if there's something wrong with the turf. It's odd to me that the turf would be THAT damaging to their paws. I hope it wasn't installed wrong or maybe there's a specific kind of turf that can be installed that won't hurt them.
So typically you need to water turf and allow it to dry for around 24 hours before use? I talked to a friend of mine who does turf laying and that's what he said. and that they typically have a chemical that needs to be washed off though it isn't harmful it just can cause some irritation to more sensitive skin at least for the brand he uses. idk if this was done or needed to be done, as we only saw a small bit of what was going on.

I don’t think it’s physical damage from the turf’s texture, I think it’s CHEMICAL damage. I have been around turf and smelled the strong chemical offgassing and I highly suspect these babies are very susceptible to that sort of exposure. Not only has it destroyed their paws but then has been absorbing into their system too. So I would not recommend any sort of artificial turf for toxic reasons.
