How do you keep the sunflower seeds from falling to the bottom of the bowl? Thicker dressing? This is what keeps me from using smaller seeds! On another note, as a child my salad bar obsession was a pile of beets, shredded cheese, and "baby corn." ...I'm not sure I want to know what this means about my personality profile.
My sweetie picked up Humboldt Fog for a cheese plate he made on my birthday half a decade ago when I was a broke college student, and I thought it was the fanciest thing. I sure felt like a million bucks, ha. To this day I love that cheese. Such a joyful lil memory!
Carla, you are the cutest human alive. Somehow finding myself watching your videos for the pure entertainment and later being convinced to make the salad because you’re so stinkin cute!! ☺️😘 Much love 💕
Watching your videos, I really appreciate that you can talk and still cook. I hate cooking videos that stand and talk and don't actually cook what they are supposed to
Carla Carla Carla, this is amazing - made tonight as I already had most of the ingredients, and it’s a winner! Love to you and the alone salad movement ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pecans, walnuts, grapes, apples, pears, dried cherries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, mandarins, and the list goes on!!
some of my favorite things in life are a well manicured sandwich or salad. two MUSTS on my salad: nuts and celery. the rest is optional (tomatoes, cucs, seeds, beans, onions, carrots, etc). This looks fantastic and I can't wait to try it :D
Update: made this last night and my husband who is dressing and mustard (and chickpea and avocado) adverse said it was the best salad he ever had in his life. I did everything as written. Used my garden herbs but skipped the cheese. I tried it at Whole Foods and it’s not for me. I would have enjoyed feta but husband is, you guessed it, adverse to feta. Leftovers made a great lunch. Added some green olives for tang. Thank you, Carla.
Grapes in salads are delicious, especially if they're cold. I like sweet fruits in my salads if I have them. Strawberries, apples, grapes, watermelon, preferably something with some texture, sweetness, and natural acidity. They go great with vinegarettes.
The salad is labor intensive. I don't ever want eat garbanzo beans in a salad without marinating them as suggested in this video. I even got the Humboldt Fog. I also learned to season each layer. Delicious, filling, and worth the time. Thank you!
I could eat salad everyday! The combination of ingredients is endless. Savory, sweet, pickled, proteins, textures. It goes on and on. My dream party is a salad party. Where there is a long table and everybody brings an ingredient. Make it how you want it.
My favorite salad is romaine lettuce, cold chicken chunks, sliced black olives, ranch dressing and pineapple chunks. I just love it. I also love a waldorf salad that includes grapes and sunflower seeds. At least the way my grandma prepared it.
I LOVE grapes in salad! I don't like dried fruit, so I started putting sliced red grapes in coronation chicken and then it kind of just escalated from there. I put grapes in pretty much every side salad in the summer because my family aren't dressing fans and red grapes, small cubes of cheddar, and baby plum tomatoes make a stellar combo with lettuce on the side of literally any meal.
If your family aren't "dressing fans", simply mix some good salad-quality oive oil with lemon juice or vinegar + salt + pepper. My parents are the same, but no matter what the salad holds, that "dressing" goes with it.
@@g0lddustt29 haha I tried a oil / lemon dressing once. My brother asked why his salad was wet and my mum called it 'greasy'. It was a super small amount of dressing but we eat side aala with everything and never put a dressing on it, so I think they were just confused. Tomatoes, grapes, and cheese became a good compromise so that we werent just eating leaves and cucumber every meal
My favorite salad bar salad bar salad (aka Papaw Salad - because its how my grandfather would make a salad bar salad) is pretty simple - lettuce (preferably iceberg), ham chunks, shredded cheddar cheese, carrots, bacon bits, ranch, and croutons. :)
Not a big fan of the new graphics, but I am a big fan of Carla! I've made so many recipes of yours after watching the videos. One of the highlights of my week is when you post a new vid.
🎉 thanking you for this stunning salad recipe! Will be making asap!!! P.S i like grapes in my salad but only with the correct sidekicks… for example classic rocket and park salad but with grapes is *chefs kiss*
Sunflower seeds:yes. Grapes:not so much. Lettuce:once in awhile. Salads in this house consist mainly of cucumber, tomato and sweet peppers with a homemade balsamic, greek inspired or honey mustard dressing.
100% pro sunflower seeds. I feel disappointed when they aren't available. There's something very texturally satisfying about those little crunchy bits sticking to the other components thanks to the dressing. And they're usually salted which adds some nice flavor too. Another one of my favorite ingredients is a small scoop of hummus. It adds like a creamy glue that makes it easier to eat and brings great flavor.
That cheese looks great, I wonder if anybody sells it here in the UK. Not that we don't have some amazing cheeses anyway. As for grapes: sometimes. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are wonderful in a salad. My working lunch salad is an incredibly simple cucumber, carrot, cheese, seeds and some kind of dressing based on what I have available, with maybe some meat or beans or egg if I fancy it. I've been using it to practise my knife skills. I'm getting a lot better at disassembling cucumbers in a hurry.
Carla - As a fellow chicken-liver-avoidant personality type, I have a tip for you! Le Comptoir Du Vin's chicken liver pate completely changed my understanding of what chicken liver can be. And the people there are the bestttt, too.
The only place I’ve enjoyed chicken liver was at the restaurant Animal in West Hollywood. It comes with caramelized onions and is pure bliss. Wouldn’t imagine myself eating organ meat in literally any other situation
Just watched that old BA video on food aversions where you cooked lamb and mentioned your dill diligence. Never realized how important beating dill was to you.
I’m sorry but it’s absolutely true that Salads are proxies for their makers. One of my coworkers and I went to a salad bar: His salad? - yes to all the vegetables - no cheese - eggs yes, but only the whites (or not at all) - chicken breast yes. Extra chicken breast - no dressing whatsoever You can safely make predictions about: - his fitness - the scale he uses to evaluate woman - the gender standards he thinks he needs to uphold in relationships - how fun he is at parties - how aware of his emotions and needs he is - what kind of books he reads I may have just cast myself in a equally negative light, BUT I SWEAR TO GOD HE’S THAT SIMPLE. Lol
What cheese would you suggest for a substitute for Humboldt Fog? I checked the website and it isn’t available anywhere near me. Would regular goat cheese work?
If I want the salad being my main meal I add either, cottage cheese, a can of tuna (not the oiled one), stripes of grilled halloumi or grilled tofu to it.
I am the person who refuses to make a salad if it includes lettuce, or tomato. To me lettuce, especially shredded lettuce, is inedible. You may as well have put confetti all over my food it’s impossible to get off. And don’t get me started on my rant about how tomatoes are in EVERYTHING
Carla, babe, trust me. Try red grapes, cucumbers, carrots, with whatever dressing. It's just delish. You're making me more open to garbanzo beans in my salad. It's our effort in our relationship that makes me stay by your side.
If you ask for sunflower seeds and grapes in your salad, the community would like to hear from you below!

my aunt makes a broccoli + grape + sunflower seed salad and it's a hit in my family :P not my personal fav but I will say, it's a fun and funky mix.
I’ve been known to put grapes in a salad… also apple or orange… 😅
grapes are surprisingly amazing and an absolute delight in a salad
no squishy seed stuff like a cherry tomato, they're sweet or sour, always refreshing, top tier salad ingredient
This woman is truly such a wordsmith
My sweetie picked up Humboldt Fog for a cheese plate he made on my birthday half a decade ago when I was a broke college student, and I thought it was the fanciest thing. I sure felt like a million bucks, ha. To this day I love that cheese. Such a joyful lil memory!
Fell in love with Humboldt Fog after having it in a restaurant. So good.
The idea of building maximum flavor/texture for every ingredient just makes me love you. More. More than before. More than ever.
NO grapes, buy YES on the sunflower seeds (roasted and salted, of course). I love, love, love an ALONE SALAD -- calling it that from now on.
literally eating an alone salad right now
I’m the opposite; NO seeds, but YES on sweet grape in a savoury salad!
Marinated artichoke hearts ♥️🥹
Carla's thoughts whilst opening an avocado are the exact ones I have: will this be shit or stunning?
Also, I think we need an "alone" series.
SUCH A GOOD IDEA. Plz Carla heed our lonely cries!
Everything in this salad is amazing and I'm salivating already! -Side note: Your hair is amazing and my hair goals for when my hair grows back out!
Omg Humboldt Fog cheese is my favorite!! I love anything from cypress grove
Sunflower seeds, yes, extra! Also a scoop of large curd cottage cheese is nice if they have it.

Eating said salad as I type this...YUUUUMMMMMMMMAAAHHHHHHHHH!! Going into the rotation of Carla meals I prepare regularly. Thank you 🥰
Carla and Cypress Grove are both magical.

Made this yesterday and both hubby and I LOVED it. It's definitely earned a place in the family recipe book.
I'm here for your food, your nails and your quirky humor. Love! You!

I loooove Humboldt Fog!! And this salad looks amazing. Thanks for looking out for us vegetarians!
This is how I need all salads talked about to make it worth it, thank you Carla for imbuing salad with such heart

Oh my! What a fabulous salad! We'll have to search out the Humboldt Fog but even the base with the marinated onion dressing sounds so yummy!

White grapes and blue cheese on romaine lettuce are sublime!
I love grapes and bleu cheese together. Try coating grapes with bleu cheese, then roll in chopped walnuts or pecans ... very yummy.
@@virginiaf.5764 Definitely!
Beautiful salad, Carla! Your videos make me so happy! ❤️
Sunflower AND pumpkin seeds! Walnuts are good, too!
I’ll try most anything the salad bar is offering. And 100% satisfaction, that avocado peeling 🙌
9:15 Lawnmower salad? I am all for it!
absolutely!!! bring on the grapes and sunflower seeds!!
Humboldt fog is my fave cheese ever!!
Cypress Grove makes the best cheese and they're right down the road from me. Come visit Humboldt Carla!
My favorite salad is romaine lettuce, cold chicken chunks, sliced black olives, ranch dressing and pineapple chunks. I just love it. I also love a waldorf salad that includes grapes and sunflower seeds. At least the way my grandma prepared it.
I feel intimidated by the cheese case at my local shop so I usually avoid it, but that cheese looks so interesting! I wanna try it!

With super thin slices of Parma ham ( Italian cut ) in chiffonnade to give it some volume that would be a top finishing.

This has always been my go to salad!! Just never thought of marinating my chickpeas before!!!
Just WOW. My husband was scrolling thru TH-cam, saw this video and said…this looks like US! It looks so good
Talk about a pleasurable salad
This was so good
My go to salad bar salad always includes spring mix, grapes, feta, sunflower seeds, hummus, red wine vinegar, and olive oil
Looks delicious! Will definitely try. Will you share where that beautiful salad bowl is from?

I've never put grapes in my salad, but I cannot make a salad without craisins. And salty little sunflower seeds? Yes please.
Green grapes and red leaf lettuce, and fennel in salad is yum...
I know this salad is good ! Can’t wait to make

This is the best looking salad I believe I’ve ever seen….❤
I love pepitas in a salad like nobodys business. I think every salad deserves a little dry crunch
Try some walnuts also, with grapes. Just a lil crunch.
This looks really good. Sunflower seeds: yes. Grapes: questionable. What does the cheese taste like?e
And YES about the chopped salad thing! Too chopped feels like I need a spoon which is a no for me 😂
Me: "Carla, that cheese costs $28 a wheel!!"
Also me: *tries cheese*
Also also me: "I worship the ground Carla walks on."
i haven't done the math, but you only need 4 ounces!
@@CarlaLalliMusic123 Just like garlic, there can never be too much cheese 🧀🧀🧀

Ahh, one of our favorite cheeses. ♥
Grapes go in Waldorf salad, wich is great. I don’t like sunflower seed in any thing.
What cheese would you suggest for a substitute for Humboldt Fog? I checked the website and it isn’t available anywhere near me. Would regular goat cheese work?
I would also love to know what's a good substitute, I'm on a different continent and have no chance of coming across this specific cheese.
Absolutely! HF is a soft ripened goat, so anything in that world will work. Would also be nice with a not-too-sharp feta or ricotta salata
The way she was talking about her wardrobe during her alone salad I was waiting for a link to the BTS content on her newly established OF account :)
Nicely done.
Blessings on the cheesemonger who gave me Humboldt fog smeared on an Oat Cake cracker with a dried cherry on top.
Where are those gorgeous bowls from though?!
I like a big glass of wine in the middle of my salad
Awaiting a video of darling Carla making her 'Alone Salad' with minimal clothing coming later this summer....😎🥗
not a sunflower seed nor a grape person (yet!!), but I sure am a raw mushroom person lol. great vid as always ❤❤❤

Yummy salad!
Grapes are a really good replacement for tomatoes but pumpkin seeds are better than sunflower seeds! ✌
I’m very picky with my salads, but THIS looks really appetizing! 🙌🏽 I hate when ppl big up a salad & it’s the generic 123 🙄
Where oh where did you get your cheese slicer??
Can we get the brand of those gold glass bowls?!?
i love a trashy salad bar that has the crunchy chow mein noodles out
yum. looks bomb.
more cheese education!

grapes: no, never, no thank you
sunflower seeds: yes, fine, occasionally
cottage cheese: always
Champagne grapes would be great in a salad.

On thing I don't get is people not eating the rind of a white mold cheese 🤔
sunflower seeds, yes! grapes? only in a midwestern mayo ridiculous chicken salad recipe that grandmas make for poker lunches
I love Israeli salads that are chopped really finely. This salad looks awesome, but I cannot do any raw onion. Schvitz! LOL :)
