This was filmed back before the season closed👌back when it wasn't too cold to packraft 😂 but the fish were getting over the sight of us anglers 🤔 hope you enjoy this little lesson - another lesson in #nevergiveup 🔥💪🏞️⛺
Great that you're enjoying - providing a relaxing vibe is one of my goals so I'm pleased you picked up on that. I might do some asmr stuff too... keep a lookout
@@waitaki_fly haha yep a packraft and a walk in the wilderness is always a pleasure. Heading to the canals again this week - do u think it's worth stalking the edges with fly rod or just egg rolling?
Those pesky sandflies can be hell in the backcountry rivers. Especially if you haven’t got the refuge of a hut…and are camping out. Bushman deet 80 to make it bearable. Looking forward to the new season now. Great vid.
Late season stalking sure is tricky. Like you say it's a bit of a mental game to stay calm, move slow, and #nevergiveup! That fish is no match for your 2 days of dedication for that amazing lake fish you posted a couple videos back but well done - another cool adventure. Thanks for sharing 🙏
That helicopter may well have had me on board, was it a white or green longranger? I do a lot of pest monitoring in that neck of the woods. Some of the fiercest sandflies in existence around those parts
Ever noticed trout taking off when the shadow of a bird crosses the water? When we have never had birds that seek aquatic prey in flight, when you have worked that out you will understand more about instinctive behaviour.
It's a good point. Anyone else seen this? I haven't. Definately had a pool ruined by a paro or a shag but never by a kerereru shadow. Trout don't seem to mind sharing with whio
@@nzadventurer Brown trout have a specific niche different from rainbow and their incidence in rivers often interpreted as being more difficult to catch when many rivers have a much reduced percentage presence compared with rainbow so on those rivers you are going to encounter fewer browns. Also browns are a margins habitat occupant rainbows are a mid stream occupant and more particular of water quality, the reason rainbows are more often removed by floods.
I've witnessed this on the Crow and Roaring Lion amongst other rivers in Kahurangi and in Otago. Mostly only ever on rivers that receive arguably excessive fishing pressure. Sandfly repellent contamination of flies will also lead to instant spooking.
Maybe we need a sport to do with sandflies? Not sure if people realise all the neck gaiter and gloves stuff isn't for fashion - the sandies are insane in the south island 🪰🪰🪰💪

Good tip! Gotta be careful not to get deet on the flyline or flies tho
It will also eat your goretex jacket. Bloody useful for welding plastic though
You should be on the tourism NZ payrole bro. Inspiring content as usual
Too kind fella 🙏

Haha true. Thanks for watching 🏞️
Really starting to come round to the packrafts. Another great adventure. I am hoping there are a few more days to this trip to make another video.
Packraft is amazing but did get cold late in the season.
@@nzadventurer yep. Counting down the weeks, days! Can’t wait for the next vids.

NuZuln's best kept secret: the sandfly
