- Ivan Rebroff (Hans Rippert) was not Russian at all, but German, and without his Russian makeup he actually looks very German. He could speak Russian because his mother was Russian, but he actually had a pretty thick German accent. He was a citizen of Greece.
What can you say. His voice is a gift from God. His voice is entoxicating. He is so sadly missed 😢

lot of mistakes. Rippert was all-German, without any Russian roots, his mother was Luise Fenske from Bromberg town.
He couldn't speak Russian and sang only after learning the words of the Russian songs by heart.
He lived and died in Frankfurt am Main

He died in Frankfurt, but since 1960 he was living in Skopelos, a Greek island, and possessed the Greek citizenship.
Nope.....I love his Russian interpretations but here he sounds inauthentic. Not just because of his thick German accent but also because he seems to have no real connection to, or understanding of the lyrics. Certainly one of the greatest bass singers ever and possessing of a functional range few will ever be able to match. This song just wasn’t for him to sing.
